Google Updated Keyword Planner Tool Google has continued to update its keyword planner tool and the recent revision consisted of nine new additions. This update is made just a few days back and thus, this is the right time to discuss about them and observe how these additions in the keyword planner tool are going to affect the working of website analysis tools. Note that this post contains details of eight out of total nine changes made by Google. Let us start with the first one that is "specify a time period". According to this update, keyword suggestions and volume estimates will be provided for a specified time period. The second addition is "period of time comparison" which means we will be capable of performing time period comparisons. It has several things for us to understand like-
Previous Period – If the date range is set from Jan 2014 to March 2014, Google will compare and display results for the previous period i.e. October 2013 to December 2013. Same period last year – This means, suppose you have selected a time period between Jan 2014 to March 2014, Google will compare and generate results with January 2013 to March 2013. Custom Setting – In this technique, the user is free to create his own custom comparison settings. The Third Change means we can see is "absolute and relative changes for each ad group and keyword’s volume comparing two time periods". We can sort columns to understand what keywords are, in-flux or on the decline by reviewing total change as well as the percentage change.
Google Updated Keyword Planner Tool The Fourth Change allows us to visualize mobile trends as compared to the total volume on all the kinds of devices. When different bars are hovered over other volumes will automatically display. The Fifth Change allows us to see breakdowns by devices as well as targeted locations. This feature was added to provide data with a visual graph that would allow advertisers to get aware of the expected contribution from every individual device. The Sixth Addition was "flexible time periods". Apart from daily estimates, now we can get the results and compare them on quarterly, monthly, semi-annual and annual basis. Moreover, we also have the flexibility to specify the time period for which we want estimates to be based on. Whoever‌ these estimates would be in accordance with the expected volume for the selected period and scaling would be based on the time period.
The Seventh Addition allows device segmentation and bid adjustments. With it, we can see the breakdown of volume estimates by devices and receive estimates specific to mobile bid adjustments. However, these estimates would be based on the baseline bid applied to all devices. Moreover, "add a bid adjustment" and "adjustments based on the bid adjustment will also be provided along with. The Eighth Addition included location breakdowns for sub-geos of your targeted location. This means, suppose you are targeting the USA, you will have the following options. Your targeted locations that would allow you to examine estimates for the geographic target specified by you and you can select from one of the automatic breakdowns for increased granularity of your specified location.
