Our Impact Family Resource Network

Our Impact

The FRN had another very successful and busy year helping families and children in our area. 276 individuals received training to strengthen families during Child Abuse Prevention Month. The FRN attended various fairs and information sessions and distributed over 4,600 packets of information to indivudals and families. In June, 290 individuals participated in the annual Community Pool Party.

Holiday Food and Toy Distribution

The 36th Annual Holiday Food and Toy Distribution served more than 630 families in need. Nearly 1,145 Monongalia County children were given gifts and 2,000 individuals received food for a holiday meal. Also, more than 1,000 pets received food and treats. Approximately 550 volunteers completed nearly 2,000 hours of hard work to make the distribution a success! The event is a true community collaboration. It wouldn’t be possible without the collaboration of our partners, including WCLG Radio, Christian Help, Connecting Link, Humane Society, Army National Guard, and In Touch and Concerned.

VolunteerMPC

The website has proven to be a tremendous asset to our United Way and community and has successfully helped coordinate volunteers for over 75 local non-profit agencies and various large scale service projects, including Day of Caring and the Holiday Food and Toy Distribution.

Over 18,552 people visited the site in 2017.

MyFreeTaxes

MyFreeTaxes is a national partnership with H&R Block. Individuals making under $62,000 were eligible to prepare and file their tax returns completely free of charge. United Way promoted the program locally. 155 returns were completed in Monongalia and Preston counties resulting in more than $265,236 in refunds and $30,743 was saved on preparation fees.

Emergency Food and Shelter Program

The Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) supplements and expands the work of local social service agencies in an effort to help people with economic emergencies. Locally, it is coordinated by United Way. In 2017, Monongalia County was awarded $42,506. The dollars were invested in five local agencies: Bartlett Housing Solutions, Caritas House, Catholic Charities, Connecting Link, and Scott’s Run Settlement House.
