Our Impact Family Resource Network

The FRN had another very successful and busy year helping families and children in our area. Over 200 individuals received training to strengthen families during Child Abuse Prevention Month. The FRN attended various fairs and information sessions and distributed over 2,100 packets of information to indivudals and families. In June, 229 individuals participated in the annual Community Pool Party and Summer Stroll events.

Holiday Food and Toy Distribution

The 35th Annual Holiday Food and Toy Distribution served more than 550 families in need. Nearly 1,000 Monongalia County children were given gifts and 1,900 individuals received food for a holiday meal. Also, more than 1,000 pets received food and treats. Approximately 800 volunteers completed more than 2,000 hours of hard work to make the distribution a success! The event is a true community collaboration. It wouldn’t be possible without the collaboration of our partners, including WCLG Radio, Christian Help, Connecting Link, Humane Society, Army National Guard, and In Touch and Concerned.

VolunteerMPC

Now in its second year, VolunteerMPC underwent a complete redesign to make the website more user-friendly and mobile responsive. The website has proven to be a tremendous asset to our United Way and community and has successfully helped coordinate volunteers for over 60 local non-profit agencies and various large scale service projects, including Day of Caring and the Holiday Food and Toy Distribution.

Over 8,000 people visited the site in 2016.

Our Impact

MyFreeTaxes

MyFreeTaxes is a national partnership with H&R Block. Individuals making under $62,000 were eligible to prepare and file their tax returns completely free of charge. United Way promoted the program locally. 121 returns were completed in Monongalia and Preston counties resulting in more than $24,200 in savings for local families.

Emergency Food and Shelter Program

The Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) supplements and expands the work of local social service agencies in an effort to help people with economic emergencies. Locally, it is coordinated by United Way. In 2016, Monongalia County was awarded $37,695. The dollars were invested in four local agencies: Bartlett House, Scott’s Run Settlement House, Connecting Link, and Catholic Charities.
