UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE

Showcase. Connect. Collaborate. As Student Reps, we know how great it is to meet other creative students and share that amazing talent. This is why we have brought you Creative Exchange, allowing you to showcase, connect and collaborate within the School of Creative Arts. We all know that the School seems to come alive at the end of the year. The hustle and bustle of the degree shows, displaying the culmination of three years of hard graft is shown throughout the School. And we thought wouldn’t it be great if we could do that more than once a year?

SCHOOL OF CREATIVE ARTS

CREATIVE EXCHANGE

We all know that staff in the School of Creative Arts work tirelessly to deliver the best experience possible to us, the students. As part of their ongoing effort, they’ve only gone and built us our own creative social network! Aimed at removing the barriers between the School’s various courses, the upcoming Creative

Exchange website will allow us to showcase our work, make friends, engage in discussion, join groups, discover new talent and post collaborative opportunities. We were recently given a demonstration of the site at the latest Student Rep meeting, and it’s fantastic! Think of a cross between

“The Creative Exchange website will allow me to view the work of others from across the School, get feedback on my own projects and provide me with a way to contact other students for collaborative opportunities.”

SCHOOL OF CREATIVE ARTS

CREATIVE EXCHANGE

We have a fantastic network of Creative Leads (your School Student Reps) who work hard to share your opinions in a variety of ways. There are, on average, 2 Reps per year, per course. These guys go to programme committee meetings where any comments on improvements to your course and School facilities are voiced, considered and acted upon (within reason, so no ice rink in the car park, sorry!) They also go to Student Rep meetings with us (your friendly SSROs) where any issues and ideas are discussed across the School and passed on to the relevant people.

Student reps are an impartial voice, so neither you nor they can be penalised for bringing up an issue. As well as giving feedback to your Student Reps, you also have opportunities to feedback directly to tutors and senior staff via surveys. You’ll have already come across the Module Feedback Questionnaire (MFQ). It’s an anonymous and 100% confidential way to talk about what you enjoyed or didn’t enjoy about your module and to suggest improvements. Feedback, especially if backed up by things said in programme committee meetings, can change the way a module is run. The NSS (National Student Survey)

is for students at Level 6 to reflect on their overall experience at the University. It’s about providing feedback on all aspects of University life and can be used by future applicants when they’re making that all important decision of where to apply to. Again, the answers you give can improve our courses, School and University for future generations of creative students! If you want to discuss change in the time you are here, you’re better off talking to your reps, filling out the MFQs and going along to Student Forums. (Surveys don’t happen too often, so finding a Rep is generally the quickest way to voice your opinions and change things for the better!)

Well, we’ll be setting up an open group for all students so you can come along and discuss specific topics with those who can directly impact how they run. Anyone can speak and bounce ideas off each other, and you’ll receive instant feedback on your ideas! If you have an idea of what you want covered at the open forum please talk to one of your Reps or drop us an email. We know that some of you have sensitive issues or concerns that you might not wish to discuss in a public setting, so soon you’ll see suggestion boxes popping up in each building. It’s a totally anonymous way to give feedback, so if you can’t make a Student Forum or can’t get in touch with one of your Reps, drop us a note!

Did someone say ‘Student Forum’? If you don’t know who your student rep is ask your tutor, peers or drop us an email or you might recognise them among the photos on this page.

Get in touch! Any questions or comments? Feel free to email us (Ana, Ellie and Tim – your SSROs) at creativessro@gmail.com FACEBOOK.COM/UHCREATIVES
