PHYSICS

BSc PHYSICS Physics is the study of the most fundamental questions about nature. It’s an incredibly diverse and inspiring subject that explores themes from the mechanics of sound to the origins of the Universe. It’s the perfect field to cultivate your abstract and creative reasoning, and build practical skills and knowledge that are applicable to a wide range of careers. Why is a physics degree so attractive to employers in many sectors? During our three-year course, you’ll develop an impressive range of transferable skills in mathematics, computing, communication and collaborative working. You’ll also build practical professional skills in areas such as critical thinking, academic research, and analytical problemsolving. You’ll be able to tailor your programme to your interests, and explore a research topic more fully in a final-year independent project. BSc PHYSICS WITH A FOUNDATION YEAR If you want to fill in the gaps in your knowledge before progressing to a physics degree, our Foundation Year is for you. It’s designed to provide you with the skills you’ll need to continue on as an undergraduate, even if you haven’t met the academic requirements for the main degree. You will study core modules in physics and mathematics, and select optional modules in chemistry or computing, depending on your interests. You will also receive guidance throughout the year from an adviser, who will help you progress and select the modules that are right for you. On successful completion of the Foundation Year you’ll be able to continue onto our BSc Physics course. MPhys PHYSICS Our flagship physics degree is the ideal programme if you’re looking for a future in research or academia. You’ll complete an integrated fouryear Master’s course, in which you’ll study a range of advanced optional modules in your final two years. You’ll also undertake an advanced individual project in your final year that will further develop your independent research skills. This fourth year provides you with Master’s-level training that will hone your expertise in a specific field, and prepare you for a research post or physics-based career.
