ACCOMMODATION Starting your academic studies often means moving to another city or country. In Lappeenranta, you can submit an application for student accommodation with the Lappeenranta Student Housing Foundation LOAS (loas.fi/en), and in Lahti with Lahden Talot (lahdentalot.fi/en). You can also apply for municipal rental apartments owned by the cities of Lappeenranta and Lahti or ones available through private rental services.

LUT University’s Lappeenranta campus is located in the district of Skinnarila, seven kilometres from the city centre. The compact campus area is located by the beautiful Lake Saimaa and offers LUT students all of the student services needed. BACHELOR’S STUDIES At LUT, you can complete a Bachelor’s degree in technology in the programme Technology and Engineering Science. After completing this Bachelor’s programme, you are entitled to continue your studies at the Master’s level at LUT. In this programme, you will graduate within three academic years with a unique and adaptable multidisciplinary skill set that will meet the current demands of industry, education and technology.

MASTER’S STUDIES At LUT, you can choose from 22 technology or business Master’s programmes in English. The programmes are mainly full-time, but we also offer two flexible distance learning programmes. The duration of each Master’s programme is two years. Courses are held in either Lappeenranta or Lahti.

STUDENT EXPERIENCES

ANASTASIIA’S STORY

I came to Finland all the way from Siberia; I’ve always wanted to study abroad for a while. I started my Master’s studies in one of Saint Petersburg’s universities and came here to LUT through a double degree programme. When my studies at LUT started, I had no background in water treatment, which made my studies a lot harder. I sometimes still feel that I’m lacking some basic knowledge. But here’s the trick: if you really like doing something, nothing can stop you from learning more. Being a student here was great. I remember days and even weeks when I only came back home to sleep because this university really became my second home, and I didn’t want to leave even when I was done with my deadlines.

I didn’t plan to stay in Finland for a long time, but it all happened very naturally. First, I took a course on membrane technology and met inspirational professionals. Then, I got an amazingly interesting thesis topic from them, and after that (even before I graduated), I got an offer to stay and work with the same research group. The fact that it all happened within one year brings me back to my favourite quote from Seneca: “Fate leads the willing and drags along the reluctant”. Even though LUT was the third university I studied in, it’s the only one I finally wanted to call my alma mater. It’s filled with curiosity and freedom, and it really helps me to learn something new every day – whatever I want it to be.

MEICHUN’S STORY I have never regretted coming here. I am glad that I chose to complete a Master’s programme at LUT. I would say from my own experience: LUT is a university with high qualifications in all areas. Teachers are very friendly and helpful to students. They are also very professional in their own field. I really appreciated that almost all the teachers I met at LUT teach and do research at the same time. I think it ensures that we students get fresh knowledge and insights in lectures. Another thing I really liked was that the school collaborates with many different companies and you can benefit from it in studies, research and job hunting. The atmosphere at LUT is welcoming and

open; I feel I was accepted and respected as an international student. Last but not least, the facilities are modern and everybody has a good place to study, eat and exercise. If you are interested in green technology and sustainable development, LUT is your place. It doesn’t matter whether your field is business or technology or somewhere in between. My major subject is Global Management of Innovation and Technology – it belongs to industrial manage­ ment. But I took energy and business as my minor subjects, which has been very interesting for me.

EDISON’S STORY

Everyone says that technology changes rapidly, but that’s just the cold truth. We need to keep up with different programming languages, frameworks and the industry’s best development practices. That’s exactly what LUT offered me in my first year in the Master’s programme Software Engineering and Digital Transformation. I was excited about the chance to study in Finland, at one of the most highly ranked universities in the world. Finland’s education system is known as one of the best in the world, and LUT proved that during my first year. The studies were amazingly organised: you have compulsory courses but the freedom to choose the rest based on your interests. I’ve always been driven by programming related challenges – hence my decision to choose the Software Engineering track. The professors were always ready to help you succeed and be the best you could be. To give you

industry experience, you have courses where you interact with real industry clients in exciting projects and do the entire development life cycle. If you’re not into programming, you can choose the Digital Transformation track, the new innovative way to digitalise businesses and organisations, fundamentally changing the way they operate and deliver value to customers. Either way, you will find yourself doing what you love just because of the freedom of choice you have as a student. Starting my studies was extremely easy, and the tutors helped me with everything I needed to know about the city and the university the week following my arrival. You’ll get the chance to choose a minor subject and study something else that you’re passionate about. I’ve always loved entrepreneurship and studied it as my minor. If you want to study what you love, come to LUT and you’ll never regret it. It’s that simple.

PATRICIA’S STORY

I decided to apply to LUT because I had the chance to visit the campus while I was still considering my options about my future Master’s studies. The atmosphere of the green and innovative campus seemed so pleasant and inviting that I wanted to be a part of it. I chose the international marketing programme because of my passion for marketing. My studies here perfectly complement my previous degree and knowledge. The courses are inspiring and the assignments diverse. During certain courses, we can put theory to practice while working on commissions given by companies.

LUT is the perfect place for students. The majority lives next to the campus or within a 2 km distance, creating a lively community where it is easy to make friends with other international and Finnish students. LUT also offers a lot of extracurricular activities. There are numerous sports possibilities and different clubs for everyone’s interests. The scenery in Lappeenranta is beautiful. I love that the campus is surrounded by nature, trees, flowers, rocks and Lake Saimaa. If I’m lucky, I can also spot the “campus fox” that lives in the area. Between two lectures, I can simply walk to the lake to sit down, have a break and relax. It’s the best study environment I could wish for.

EXCHANGE STUDIES Student exchange abroad has many advantages. During the exchange, you will experience new cultures, learn new languages, make new friends from around the world, and grow personally. Exchange students. LUT has over 200 partner universities worldwide. Every year, we welcome approximately 250 exchange students mainly through the Erasmus+ programme. We also have bilateral exchange

agreements with universities, as well as some free movers. Courses. During the exchange, you can take business and technology courses. You can carry out business and management studies, which combine business and industrial engineering at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. You can also study technology and engineering courses in various fields mainly at the Master’s level.

The LUT Summer School is a four-week academic event offering intensive Bachelor’s and Master’s level courses in the fields of technology and business.

With a wide variety of subject areas to choose from, you are sure to find something that suits your interests and needs.

The courses are arranged by LUT University and the LAB University of Applied Sciences. In addition, you can also take language courses.
