Essay 2015 Loyal E. Hor ton Dining Awards Contest Residential Dining Special Event U n i ve rsit y of New Ham p s h ire UNH Dining S e r vices planned and executed an event that went to infinit y and beyond! The Toy Stor y Dinner was held at Holloway Commons, the Universit y ’s flagship dining hall. Students, administration, and communit y members gathered to taste the delicious Smo th e re d S mo k e d “ H a mm” fo l l owe d by “Co s mi c Cu pc ak es” for desser t. All staff members we re in charac ter as the event took place. Students snapped photos with Woody ( Jon Plodzik , Direc tor of Dining Hall Operations) and Buzz Light year (Chris K aschak , Executive Chef ). Positive social media buzz was in abundance before, during, and af ter the event. Those who attended the Toy Stor y Dinner we re in awe of the staff costumes, delicious food, decorations, and overall atmosphere. Dining S e r vices also tr a n s fo r me d th e Pi s c a ta qu a R o o m i n to “An d y ’s R o o m”, fi lled wi th toys, g a me s, ph o to o ppo r tu n i ti e s, a n d l i ve s tre a mi n g of all three Toy Stor y movies. The Toy Stor y Dinner was an over whelming success. Those dining at the event lef t with full bellies and heav y h e a r ts a s th e y we re re mi n i s ce n t o f th i s f avo r i te D i s ney c lassi c.

Hor ton Dining Awards Contest Residential Dining Special Event U n i ve rsit y of New Ham p s h ire The menu for the Toy Stor y Dinner was developed by the culinar y and baker y team at Holloway Commons with assistance from other staff within UNH Dining. M enu items were a playful spin on charac ters and themes from the Toy Stor y movies.

Emperor Zurg’s Flying Saucers Fea tured a t Ho l l owa y Co m m o n s B r i c k Pizza O ven, which was transformed into “Pizza Planet ” for the evening. This was a simple yet creative menu item that literally “flew ” off the line.

2015 Loyal E. Hor ton Dining Awards Contest Residential Dining Special Event U n i ve rsit y of New Ham p s h ire Theme development for the Toy Stor y Dinner began early in th e academic ye a r. A pla n n in g co m m it tee, m a d e u p o f U N H Dining associates, managers and students, was fo rmed. UNH Dining’s marketing depar tment was called on to provide creative direc tion for the theme and dÊcor of the event. Th e idea was to feature the scenes and charac ters that provided the framework for all three Toy Stor y movies. Each station in Holloway Commons displayed its own theme from the m ovies.
