Symptoms of a Candida Yeast Infection Yeast infection has many symptoms ranging from dry vagina and mouth to headaches to pain during sexual intercourse to pain during urination to mention but a few. These symptoms will vary from one person to another so just because you are having the same symptoms with a friend or relative doesn’t mean both of you are suffering from yeast infection… you have to seek medical attention so you can know exactly what is causing your symptoms. Basically, the main cause of a yeast infection is the proliferation of yeast. You see yeast is a very important part of the human body and facilitates certain important functions. However for some people, both internal and external factors can cause a drastic multiplication of yeast, especially in warm and moist parts of the body such as the mouth, vagina, skin etc. The multiplication of yeast can be because of one of several reasons but the main reason behind this overgrowth is poor body hygiene, poor oral hygiene, among other bad lifestyle choices. Using scented products in the vagina or putting on very tight pants and trousers can make breathing very difficult, thus trapping in moisture and creating a moist and warm environment where yeast love. Yeast infection affects both men and women, both young and old, and the symptoms will show up in everybody affected, although the severity will differ. Men however tend not to show more of these signs compared to their female counterparts. Further, it is to be mentioned that women are more susceptible to yeast infection than men, no wonder it is more prevalent in women than in men. Thrush is a type of yeast infection that affects the mouth and which too has its share of signs and symptoms. Oral yeast infection can be very painful, especially when it comes to swallowing food. Most of the time, oral thrush is as a result of an overuse of antibiotics as this has proven to wash down ‘good’ bacteria that are much needed by the body as it keeps yeast under good control.

For women, yeast infection symptoms tend to occur in the vaginal area hence is referred to as vaginal candidiasis. More often than not, yeast infection in women is caused by hormonal imbalances with such factors like monthly periods, menopause, pregnancy, birth control pills, and hormonal therapy. The main symptom of a yeast infection in women is chronic itching which over time becomes sensitive, sore, and very uncomfortable. Women too tend to have a white cottage cheese-like colored discharge. Men suffering from yeast infection will normally feel itchy and experience soreness, and sometimes white patches on the penis area, and can also experience a whitish discharge. As for an oral yeast infection, it will show up as whitish colored layer on the mouth with some swollen red spots. It is always good to know that there is a wide gamut of infections out there, some which may share the same signs and symptoms as those of a yeast infection. So a visit to the doctor is very important.
