December 12, 2011 Dear Gardener: Here are the garden classes you have been waiting for! University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Master Gardener training will be offered March 5 – May 1, 2012. Classes will meet Mondays and Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to noon. The program will be video linked from the Reno Cooperative Extension office to our Carson City and Douglas County offices. The classes will cover botany, plant care, soil management, plant identification, pruning, insects, plant diseases, turf management, fruit trees, vegetables, water‐efficient landscaping, container gardening, weeds and plant problem diagnosis. The program will be taught by University of Nevada Cooperative Extension employees, Nevada Department of Agriculture specialists and highly skilled local professionals. This program is designed to train you to become a University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Master Gardener volunteer. Master Gardeners are leaders in environmental stewardship through education. Once you complete your training, pass a take‐home, open‐book exam and volunteer 50 hours of community service, you will be a certified Master Gardener. You will be given additional community service opportunities each year. In order to maintain certification, Master Gardeners volunteer a minimum of 30 hours each year. There will be three separate orientations, one in each county. Please mark your calendars for the orientation and class location you would like to attend. January 31st – 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Reno Cooperative Extension office, 4955 Energy Way, Reno February 1st ‐ 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Douglas County Cooperative Extension office, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville Please call early to reserve your seat.
