Message

from the Chairman

Once again, I write to you with gratitude for the support you have provided the Department of Psychology in fulfilling its mission to conduct teaching, research and service activities at the highest level for our students and the community. This past year, like most, was another successful year in terms of grants, publications, and awards for our faculty and students, but it was also a challenging year of loss and transition.

Remembering....

The Department is mourning the loss of two of its own.

Dr. Charles S. Carver AUGUST 19, 1947 - JUNE 22, 2019

This past year the Department lost two of the most important colleagues in the history of our department, Herb Quay and Chuck Carver. Herb unquestionably was one of the most influential voices in the study of developmental psychopathology. His contributions created the field and represent the foundation on which much of contemporary child psychology research is based. We were fortunate to have him on our faculty from 1974-92 and as Chairman from 1984 until his retirement. Chuck was not only an internationally distinguished scholar and one of the most cited psychology faculty members in the world, but he was also a valued mentor to students and young faculty. For 45 years Chuck was a guiding force in the department. As a department, we continue to be very proud of our impressive accomplishments. I hope you enjoy hearing about the department in the stories that follow. Once again, let me thank you for your generous support of the department and its programs over the years, and I look forward to working with you in the future.

Phil McCabe, Ph.D.
