Umbra Shift

Umbra Shift revisits these roots with a roster of established, emerging, and in–house designers who share Umbra’s passion to re-think things, designing personal objects they themselves would want to give or use at home. The result is a collection that expresses diverse points of view, yet sits together with a shared belief in ideas that are functional, familiar and forward thinking. 2

Lukas Peet

Hlynur Atlason

Lukas Peet is a Canadian designer based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Graduating from the Industrial Design program at the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2009, Lukas worked for a short period in London before returning to Canada where he has been working on numerous commissions through his own studio LUKAS/PEET DESIGN. His works have been widely exhibited throughout Europe and North America and published in various print and online publications. In February 2014 Lukas was named the winner of the first annual RBC Emerging Designer Competition.

Icelandic-born Hlynur Atlason now lives and works in New York City. After graduating from the Parsons School of Design in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Industrial Design, he opened ATLASON in 2003 – his own product design-focused studio. ATLASON has since built a comprehensive portfolio in collaboration with MOMA, Ikea, Umbra, Microsoft, Estee Lauder and Johnson&Johnson, and is sought after by a wide range of international clients for his consulting expertise and his unique vision. Hlynur believes in building multi-layered products that are not only imaginative, but ecologically aware.

Paul Loebach New York, US

Paul Loebach is a furniture and product designer based in New York City and Berlin, Germany. Paul’s background comes from traditional woodworking, handed down from a lineage of family craftsman. He applies his hands-on material approach to a design philosophy that covers a range of industrially manufactured objects from furniture and lighting to everyday houshold products. Paul’s design focuses on materials, experience, and the emotive meaning of objects. His practice stems from a belief that each design presents a unique opportunity to invoke change, and to adapt objects to the functional needs of our ever-evolving lifestyles.

Harry Allen established his design consultancy, Harry Allen Design, in 1993. Since then, he has designed furniture, lighting, products, packaging and interiors for an illustrious roster of clients. Harry’s award-winning work sits in many collections, including MOMA, and is featured regularly in the top design publications. Harry Allen’s long-standing interest in art, new materials – and a systematic design approach – have lead to some of the most intelligent products and interiors in the world today.

MSDS is a Toronto-based, multi-disciplinary design practice that brings together experience in interior, furniture and product design. The studio is dedicated to material exploration, resourcefulness, and commitment to client needs. In its brief existence MSDS has realized numerous interiors, licensed products for production and undertaken speculative works. Clients and collaborators include Spin Toronto, Shopify and Mjölk.

Albert Lee was born in 1987 in Michigan but was raised in many different areas – an upbringing that influenced his multi-cultural taste as a designer. He graduated in 2011 from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California with a Bachelor of Science. Since 2011 he has worked successively for Bernhardt design and Barton Perreira in USA and for Nendo in Japan. His work is a harmony between industry and poetry. Albert is a happy designer who likes to create designs to make people happy.

● Description The Knob Spice Grinder borrows its form from the oven knob, an archetype for turning. This little spice grinder sits atop a base, which catches your favourite spices – or use apart as grinder and pinch pot. Made from beechwood and a ceramic CrushGrind® mechanism.
