When it came to decor, the couple aimed for a rustic element true to the charm of the old building. ‘We tried to keep everything as neutral as possible so that the stonework would still stand out,’ explains Noel, who found cabinets

for the kitchen in a local salvage yard and then fitted them himself. ‘It was hard work, but we’re thrilled with the results, and we now rent the dairymaid’s cottage out,’ says Noel. ‘Plus this restoration spurred us on to tackle the other cottages. It’s great to see these beautiful dwellings spring back to life.’
