NYU team challenge Meet Preview With merely a month to go before the America East Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Retrievers head up to the Championship site (New York City Armory) to begin setting the tone for the championship part of the season. With the Penn State National Invite and the Armory Collegiate Invite the next two weekends, the athletes will be finally let loose in their primary events with the intention of putting up some stellar performances. Entered only in the 60 meter dash, Mercedes Jackson will be looking to move into the qualification window (Top 16) for the NCAA National Meet. However, the 500 meters might be the event to watch with three of the top five performers in school history (#1 Paulette Fogle, #4 Kirsten Jones, and #5 Deborah Adelola). For the men look to Sean Cooper to push the IC4A qualification standards in both the 60 meter and 200 meter dashes and for Freshman Erick Soetje to open up the season in his specialty of the 400 meter dash. School records could be threatened all over the board in the distance events beginning with the 800 meters. After barely missing out on the 1,000 meter school record and cruising a 1:52 solo split in the 800 meters less than an hour later, Andrew Smith looks poised to crush the current record. The women’s record could be in doubt with the current record holder Sarah Daly taking the link with newly crowned 1,000 meter record holder Cody Mezebish looking to lower the record. Jake Albino will take a run at the mile record after setting the 1,500 meter record in the spring while Hassan Omar will look to add another record to his resume in the 3,000 meters. Thor Serafenas returns in the shot and weight throw after training through the past couple meets and should challenge for the Conference lead in the latter. Also returning to action will be Mo Drammeh who nearly missed out on an IC4A qualification at the Bison Opener in the high jump. After breaking the school record in the high jump last weekend, Alisha Beeman will strive to become the first Retriever to clear 5’ 8”. Nmeoma Edokobi will look to continue her great season that has led to being ranked third in the shot put and second in the weight throw in the America East Conference.

He followed that up forty minutes later by running an unchallenged lead off leg in the 4x800 meters running a 1:52 split which is equivalent to the current indoor school record.
