I Believe In Spring Time Spring Auction Catalogue Saturday, April 27, 2013 Oconomowoc Lake Club

Welcome and thank you for coming to University Lake School’s 2013 Spring Auction. More than simply a fundraising event, the ULS Auction is an opportunity to showcase our school. The auction celebrates what makes ULS such an incredible place for our children. The atmosphere is always heartfelt and centered on ULS studentcreated artwork and projects for everything from the invitations to the decorations. Because of your support tonight, ULS can continue its mission to inspire enduring intellectual curiosity, creativity, original thinking, leadership and a sense of community. Through the dedicated support of our volunteers and school community, the auction will be a great success. The generosity from families, parent owned businesses, friends of ULS and local businesses for underwriting, sponsorship and donated auction items have been amazing. The creativity of students to create the amazing centerpieces and decorations are truly beautiful and unique. The unique class gifts and all of the other wonderful handmade auction items will definitely remind you how special our ULS community is. So Bid High and Bid Often for our kids! Give yourself and the entire ULS community a “Standing Ovation” for all your hard work! Lastly, have a wonderful evening! Many Thanks - Your Auction Committee Chairs & ULS Parents Many Thanks!

If We Missed You …

If we missed thanking you, failed to list anyone, or listed someone or a gift incorrectly in this catalogue, it is merely the result of human error or press deadlines. Auction EXPRESS Check-Out Auction guests are offered EXPRESS Check-Out service in addition to the customary cashier check out. When you choose EXPRESS Check-Out, you prepay early in the evening by check (the preferred method of payment) or credit card and avoid having to wait in line to pay for your purchases at the end of the evening. Here’s how it works: Between 5 and 6:45 p.m., you can stop at the EXPRESS Check-Out area at the Registration Table to submit your signed check or charge card information (VISA or Master Card). That’s all you have to do for this wonderful service! After the Auction ends, proceed directly to the EXPRESS CHECK – OUT tables, and claim your items. The week after the Auction, you will be mailed a copy of your check or the total charged to your credit card slip and your receipts. It’s that easy! Be advised: You must exercise this option by 6:45 p.m. on Auction night. After that point, buyers must plan to check-out through the regular cashier procedure at the end of the evening.

TAX INFORMATION 1.

Your charitable deduction for the purchase of items at the University Lake School Auction is limited to the amount, if any, by which your payment exceeds the fair market value of that item. This is true even though the items were donated to the School for the Auction at no cost to the School.

2.

Your receipt includes a good-faith estimate of the value of the item offered in the Auction. As a successful bidder, you will be entitled to a tax deduction for your purchase for the amount by which your bid exceeds the estimated value. We have done our very best to make a good-faith estimate of the value of each item in the Auction. However, we are not professional appraisers and are not responsible for the accuracy of such valuations.

3.

If your winning bid is more than $25, you will need a receipt to substantiate any deduction you are otherwise entitled to claim, according to Internal Revenue Service rules. You will be provided with a receipt for each Auction item purchased. Remember to keep receipts with your income tax records. The Internal Revenue Service may disallow any deductions for which you cannot produce a receipt.

4.

As the donor of an Auction item, you must retain your copy of the Auction Donation Form signed by the School or the acknowledgement issued by the School in order to claim a tax deduction.

5.

It is advisable to consult with your own tax advisor for definitive advice regarding the deductibility of an individual item.

Auction Information 1.

A packet will be given to you upon your arrival to the Auction on April 27, 2013. Included in the packet will be your table number, bid number, bidding card and an addendum to the catalog listing items received too late for inclusion in the catalog.

2.

A bid number is registered in the name of each individual or couple attending the auction. You are financially responsible for all items purchased using your number. Use it for all bidding, in the Silent and Live Auction, and Heads or Tails. Use only the number assigned to you.

3.

Values set for the items being auctioned are the donor’s estimates and are not warranted by University Lake School. The School makes no express or implied warranties or representations of any kind or nature with respect to the properties or services auctioned. In no event shall ULS be responsible for the correctness of description nor deemed to have made any representation or warranty of description, genuineness, authenticity, or condition of the property or service. No statement in the catalog, nor any made at the sale or in the bill of sale or invoice or elsewhere, shall be deemed such a warranty or representation or an assumption of liability. By his or her purchase, the buyer waives any claims for liability against the property or service. Neither ULS nor the donor is responsible for any personal injury or damages to property that may result from utilization of property or services sold. University Lake School reserves the right to withdraw any item at any time before actual sale. The School reserves the right to reject a bid from any bidder. With the exception of the Live Auction, the Auction Chairperson and the Director of Institutional Advancement will act as final authority on any bidding dispute.

4.

Occupancy of condominiums or other vacation homes is not transferable. Purchaser must agree to terms of usage specified by owner. Purchaser is liable for property damage losses due to purchaser’s abuse of the property. All sales are final, and there will be no exchanges or refunds on items, except where specified. Please read carefully any specifications or limitations accompanying auction items. Unless otherwise specified, all auction items and services must be used by the date specified by the donor. In regard to the purchase of service items, the buyer must contact the donor to arrange for services. Payment in full is required the evening of the Auction. Payment by the successful bidder may be made at 9:30 when the cashier opens. All items will be paid for at one time. Preferred payment is by cash or check. Checks should be payable to University Lake School. Payment also can be made by VISA or Master Card. Any bidder not satisfying payment criteria will forfeit the right to purchase the item.

5.

7.

8.

Items may be removed from the Oconomowoc Lake Club only by presenting a paid receipt at the door at the time of departure or by the method described in Express Check-Out. If the item itself was not on display at the Auction, the purchaser will receive a certificate for the item purchased.

9. All Auction items must be removed from the Oconomowoc Lake Club by 11:00pm April 27, 2013. ULS will not be responsible for items after that time and date.

SILENT AUCTION 1.

The Silent Auction, including the Grand Silent Table, will be open for bidding on Saturday, April 27, 2013 beginning at 5 p.m. All Silent Auction sections will close at the times listed in the Evening’s Program.

2.

A Bid Sheet will be attached to the table next to each item in the Silent Auction. A person desiring to bid on an item does so by writing his or her bid number next to the stated bid amount on the adjacent bid sheet. Only one bid allowed per line.

3.

In order to constitute a valid Silent Auction bid, each increase in bid must match the “minimum raise” stated on the bid sheet. Bids will be disqualified if minimum bid and/or minimum raise are not sufficient.

4.

At the Silent Auction, the highest qualifying bid on each item, circled by the auction official at the close of the Silent Auction, constitutes the winning bid for that item.

5.

An auction official may disqualify a bid if the bidder is blocking another bidder. Only authorized persons may nullify a bid.

6. In the event of a dispute, the auction official may act as the final authority and shall determine the winning bidder. The auction official’s decision will be final.

LIVE AUCTION 1.

The Live Auction will begin toward the end of dinner. Once begun, the Live Auction will continue until all items have been auctioned. Live Auction items will be on display at the Oconomowoc Lake Club beginning at 5 p.m. and will be shown during the Live Auction. All items in the Live Auction are numbered and the Auction will proceed by item number.

2.

To enter a bid in the Live Auction, the bidder must raise his or her bid paddle number high to attract the attention of the auctioneer or one of his spotters. This must be repeated for each increase in a bid. Each bid legally obligates the bidder to pay the bid price in full at the end of the evening if his bid is deemed the high bid at the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer. The auction is fast-paced; bids must be made quickly! The auctioneer will determine the successful bidder. In the event of any dispute between bidders, the auctioneer shall have sole and final discretion in determining the successful bidder or re-offering the item in dispute.

3.

Purchasers of condominiums and vacation homes may be asked to sign a use agreement with the donor and to provide a refundable security deposit. A nominal cleaning charge also may be required.

4.

To avoid disappointment, and as a courtesy to donors, winning bidders should contact the donors of condominiums, vacation homes, dinners, hotel packages, and all other services as soon as possible after the Auction to make necessary arrangements. Please abide by any item restrictions, including available dates, as required by the donor. If no restrictions are provided, all services should be used within one year of the Auction – April 27, 2014.

Heads? Or Tails? $25 Dollars to Play Stand up and take a chance to win a pair of domestic roundtrip tickets on Frontier Airlines. You will flip over it. Winner should contact Val at University Lake School to get donor’s contact information. Some restrictions may apply, blackout dates, and luggage fees not included. Donated by Rania & Pat Dempsey

Periodic Table Dining Series at Sensorium THE PERIODIC TABLE dining series began with '01: The White Scenario'. It was a wonderful gathering of friends and strangers, a viewing of light and white, a presentation of familiar tastes in unfamiliar ways and most of all a unique experience for each individual. In essence, bringing to fruition the vision of SENSORIUM - to create an experience of the senses. Each installation of THE PERIODIC TABLE dining series is a choreography of the tangible and intangible: space, light, temperature, sound, smell, taste, touch - the unfolding of unexpected elements. We collaborate with food visionaries who share our sense of adventure. Creating foods of interest, of surprise, of complexity unexpected contrasts of flavor, texture, and delight. Featuring the culinary artistry of James Beard nominated chef, Justin Carlisle and Kurt Fogle. Dinner tickets for two consists of five set courses with beverage pairings on Sunday, July 21, 2013 - 6pm cocktails, 7pm dinner. This event is limited to 20 guests.
