ABG Geosynthetics ABG is a market leader in the design, development, manufacture and technical support of high performance geosynthetic systems for use in a wide range of civil engineering, environmental and sustainable building projects. At Infrarail 2018 ABG will be showcasing its tunnel lining, structural drainage and earthworks geosynthetics. ABG has developed its Cavidrain range of preformed cavity drainage ideal for use in tunnels. Cavidrain Protector provides a free draining layer to collect infiltration water from behind tunnel linings as well

as providing protection from physical damage. By minimising the build-up of hydrostatic pressure, Cavidrain Protector enhances the effectiveness of the waterproofing layer and offers superior drainage to a traditional geotextile fleece alone, in some cases enabling it to be removed altogether. Cavidrain Invert is a preformed drainage layer into which the concrete floor slab can be easily cast. It replaces the crushed stone and pipes traditionally used to collect and transport away infiltration water meaning reduced construction thickness. Cavidrain Invert is

optimised for high in-plane flow to mitigate problems caused by mineral calcification and has been designed to achieve a maximum bearing area and withstand normal installation loadings. Cavidrain Liner is a combined drainage and waterproofing liner that is welded to form an integral waterproof system. Cavidrain Liner sheets are easily fixed to the smoothed excavated walls with a sealed fixing detail and the system is finished with sprayed concrete, giving as much as 20% less rebound than a flat PVC liner.

CEEQUAL CEEQUAL is the evidencebased sustainability assessment, rating and awards scheme for civil engineering, infrastructure, landscaping and public realm projects. Established in 2003 and widely used as a ratings scheme in the world of infrastructure, there are over 690 projects registered for certification in the UK and internationally. BREEAM Infrastructure was launched as a pilot in early 2015 and acquired CEEQUAL in November that year, bringing the two schemes together. This combined version will be the natural evolution of both BREEAM infrastructure and CEEQUAL, bringing them into a single world-leading scheme and introducing a more

science-based, and outcome/ metrics focused approach. They will come together as a single scheme in late 2018, using the new recently launched ‘CEEQUAL delivered by BRE’ brand. CEEQUAL and BREEAM are standards that define best practice in sustainability for Civil Engineering and infrastructure projects. They set a series of questions or criteria which, if the project achieves, are points awarded and total to a score for the project whether as Whole Project, Design or Construction Only Assessments. They promote and celebrate the achievement of high environmental and social performance in excess of what is required by regulation. The

Assessment is undertaken by a trained Assessor working in the project team and is independently verified by CEEQUAL so it is a third-party certification of what has been achieved. Assessments are made following construction and sometimes also at the design stage. CEEQUAL Awards will be presented to Crossrail’s surface works Stockley Flyover/Old Oak Common Paddington Approaches/Stations West (Phase 1)/Western Outer Track Infrastructure (WOTI) and Western Outer Electrification (WOE) project teams from Balfour Beatty/Carillion/Jacobs/ Arup and Network Rail and celebrate their achievements.

First PADS-approved cable cleat to make Infrarail debut The Ellis No Bolts cleat, which last year became the first ever cable cleat to be granted PADS approval by Network Rail, will be on show at Infrarail 2018’s stand H50. The all polymeric stackable product, which has also been named Innovative Industrial Product of the Year at the Electrical Industry Awards, and Business Innovation of the Year at the York Press Business Awards, was designed following an enquiry received through Ellis’ UK distributor, ETS, from Network Rail concerning a maintenance problem that was causing health and safety issues. Phil Goddard, Ellis’ technical development manager, said: “We pride ourselves on our innovative approach to product development, and the Ellis No Bolts cleat is the perfect example of what we can achieve. Not only does it meet a specific customer requirement, it also tackles and addresses an installation and maintenance issue that affects electrical installations across the world.” The problem outlined by Network Rail was that live cables were having to be removed from cleats, work carried on around them, and then somehow placed back between tightly spaced upright studs at regular intervals along the entire run. Ellis addressed the issue by designing a cleat that could be stacked and fixed with nothing more complicated than a quarter turn fixing lock. This means additional cable runs can be added quickly and easily, without any need to tamper with existing ones. The rapid-fit nature of the product is further enhanced by the replacement of fixing nuts with a push-fit locking mechanism that securely fastens the lower and top section of the clamp together.

The award-winning Ellis No Bolts cleat will be exhibited at stand H50

A stitch in time saves time on the line Marshalls CPM is bringing its CPM Redi-Rock™ modular walling solution to at Infrarail 2018. The concrete block system was first used by Dean and Dyball for Network Rail on the Blackboy Tunnel/Exmouth Junction where a section in a cutting, approximately 20 meters long, required stabilising. Since this first project, the concrete block system has been used extensively on other Network Rail projects, with Marshalls CPM citing its strength and earth retaining capabilities, keeping both the train and track safe whilst offering a pleasant

viewing experience. This included the £87 million contract for the design and build of the Chiltern Railways route, between London Marylebone and Oxford, which involved the widening of the existing track bed and building a new 1km section of railway. The fast installation and natural Cobblestone look of the concrete block appealed to the Carillion Buckingham JV and since the project has been completed it has received positive feedback from those taking the train. A new name in rail, but developed by an established UK equipment manufacturer, Oilaway established itself in the rail sector in 2017. Oilaway provide a range of modular extraction and dosing systems for fluids such as transmission oils, screenwash and coolant. Oilaway improves both maintenance efficiency and environmental protection. Replacing traditional gravity draining the Oilway plug allows bayonet style connection via the sump plug to extract waste oil and then rapidly re-dose with fresh lubricant. When dispensing the system can accurately meter the fluid dispensed. With multiple lines, one pumping station can also deal with coolant, screenwash, hydraulic oil, or any maintenance fluids through appropriate flow meters, nozzles and adaptors. The Oilaway plug can, with optional sampling features, allow the rapid extraction of small samples. Operational gains are significant with faster turnarounds and better control as no cooling time is needed and extraction and dosing times are hugely reduced. Decanting from bulk drums to smaller vessels also becomes unnecessary, vastly reducing handling costs. Oilaway systems offer double returns on investment through operational gains and improved Health and Safety and Environmental compliance. With Oilaway there is no “standard” product; every system is bespoke but based around a modular system of pumps, controls and casings to give realistic project completion times. Talk to Oilaway at stand A36.

PcP Gratings Ltd B11 PcP Gratings Ltd’s cable ducting system is now available in the UK and more information will be available at stand B11. The system’s patented design and elevated installation, which ensures good drainage, is complemented by its light weight and ease of installation. PcP’s cable tray system was originally developed in readiness for the national rollout of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) in Denmark. Infrastructure owner Banedanmark contacted PcP with the remit for PcP to design cable ducting that would be maintenance-free, durable,

vandal resistant, easy to install, fire proof and would enable water to drain away freely. After two years of design and testing, the new system was accepted by Banedanmark for use on the Danish network having met, and surpassed in some areas, all of the design criteria. The new system was specified for the main rail link from Copenhagen and Ringsted. Recently, a six-kilometre installation has been supplied for the Nordlandsbanen line in Norway. The basis of the design is a three-metre-long 100mm-deep aluminium tray, with holes for

drainage, sitting on dedicated supports. Available in two widths, 320mm and 420mm, the trays are closed using galvanised steel lids, which can then be secured using special tamper-resistant screws. Using two different materials, aluminium for the trough and HSS420 high-strength steel for the lid, ensures that no magnetic field is set up. Where necessary, a 2.5-metre-long glass-reinforced polymer neutral section is inserted every 300 metres. As installation in Denmark proved, two kilometres of ducting can be installed in a single, one-shift day.

Enhanced RISQS Whether you are a buyer or supplier, RSSB RISQS remains central to the safe and costeffective procurement of products and services on Britain’s railway; it is the prequalification service which gives the industry’s 110-plus buyers – including Transport for London and Network Rail – the assurance to do business with confidence with GB rail’s 4,300 suppliers. RISQS is administered on behalf of the GB railway by RSSB, a not for profit organisation, as the only rail supplier qualification scheme that is “by the industry, for the industry.” In order to ensure RISQS is fit to meet the future demands of the railway, RSSB is transitioning RISQS from the current concession arrangements to service provision under two contracts; one for IT, verification and management services awarded to Altius VA, and the other for audit services awarded to Capita plc. On May 1st, the enhanced RISQS system, with a new easy to use platform featuring more

functionality, better integration with buyer systems, and the ability to respond more quickly to industry changes will begin operation, with high quality auditors using the latest software providing consistency of audit. Late last year Ken Blackley, Head of Commercial, Process and Governance for Network Rail, told suppliers: “Network Rail continue to support RISQS and RISQS will continue to operate, albeit administered by a new supplier from May 2018. RISQS is a scheme by the railway, for the railway, and suppliers will not be required to subscribe to any scheme other than RISQS.” Speaking at a recent RISQS event, Paul Kiteley, Senior Procurement Manager Governance and Process at Transport for London, said: “The enhancements being introduced will give our buyers greater confidence and insight into the supply base they are engaging with to deliver goods and services on our railway.” Find out more at stand G11.

computer. As each drawer is opened and closed, it is scanned digitally, and the system identifies any item that has been removed or replaced. The toolbox then makes an audible announcement alerting the user. Additionally, the computer tracks each item by the user and part number, creates an audit trail in the database and records

the digital images of each transaction which can be stored and reviewed via networkable administration software. Visit Snap-on Industrial’s stand G50 to see a demonstration of the system and learn more about how it can benefit your business by revolutionising the control of your tools.

Seamless supply chain management from Unipart Rail Visit Unipart Rail on stand G30 to understand how digital technology has been transforming approaches to asset management. The Industrial Revolution 4.0 is having a huge impact on all commercial sectors including the rail industry and the increasing expectations of passengers and government regulators are providing the impetus for train and network operators to invest in new systems and technology that will deliver long term financial and operational benefits. The concept of an integrated condition based supply chain is the seamless management of real-time data and information, combined with multiple data sources relating to the asset, to deliver increased operational efficiencies and maintenance savings. This concept is a natural development for Unipart Rail as it brings together several existing and emerging technologies and capabilities into a complete Digital Ecosystem. To power the system it needs data that is collected

and combined from multiple sources. Condition Based Monitoring (CBM) sensors are one source of data but other useful information can be used to help monitor and predict the need for replacement parts. CBM data can be combined with historical demand patterns, defect, warranty and repairable reports and vehicle maintenance schedules to make the Eco-system work to

deliver increased benefits. Unipart Rail is one of the leading providers of supply chain solutions for the rail industry and we are working on a range of technologies and process architecture that, in time, will provide a fully integrated Condition Based Supply Chain solution to keep vehicles and the track assets available for the maximum time possible.

WAGO’s conductor connection On stand D54 WAGO will demonstrate its CAGE CLAMP® termination concept, which allows conductors to be connected up to 75 per cent faster than screw-type systems through the use of spring pressure connection technology. The concept is incorporated across a wide range of products at the show from terminal blocks to I/O modules. WAGO has worked closely with Network Rail and its suppliers to develop products that are able to meet the rigorous demands of the modern railway. Applications 30 INFRARAIL 2018 OFFICIAL PREVIEW

include locomotives, rolling stock, points heaters, signalling systems and other trackside installations. Among the highlights on the stand will be WAGO’s Network Rail-approved DIN rail-mounted terminations, as well as the TOPJOB S® terminal block. Suitable for all conductor types from 0.14 mm2 to 25 mm2 including stripped, solid, stranded and fine-stranded with ferrules, TOPJOB S® is some 25 percent smaller than its rivals, saving wiring space and costs. The terminal block can withstand vibrations of up to 20 G and

shocks of up to 500 G, making it suitable for harsh and remote environments such as those found along the UK railway network. Elsewhere on the stand, WAGO will be demonstrating its modular WAGO-I/OSYSTEM 750, which utilises the same spring pressure connection technology to ensure wires are kept secure for reliable automation. The technology is certified according to EN 50155 and EN 50121/3/2 (for EMC), and XTR variants are available which are highly resilient to extreme weather, impact and vibration,

and electrical interference. Modular automation decentralises command functions governing sequencing, motion and I/O, making systems flexible, agile, and easy to scale up or down depending on requirements. The distributed nature of rail networks makes them an excellent fit for this approach to automation, as it improves reliability by reducing the dependency on one or a handful of central controllers by equipping modules with their own intelligence.
