Advertising advisory council It’s that time of semester again: the council is coming! If you missed them in Fall, now is your chance catch up and get networking! On Thursday, February 18 at 6:30 pm in Gannett Auditorium, the Advisory Council will be holding a “Jobs You Didn’t Know Existed” Panel for students. Especially for our underclassmen members, this panel will be an excellent opportunity to explore the vast possibilities within the ad industry. Our visiting panelists include: • • • •

Keith Cutler, Executive Recruiter at MiCa Sports Jay Schwerelosen, President and CEO at Worldata Tim O’Sullivan, SVP Multicultural at Geometry Global (WPP) Brandy Blackwell, Senior Marketing Manager at Tijuana Flats Tex-Mex

Member spotlight Caroline Rhoades, freshman What has been your most rewarding experience in AdServe so far? My most rewarding experience with AdServe thus far was walking in the UF March for Dimes! It was such a fun and exciting way to give back to the community. I can’t wait for AdDash this spring! Do you have any kind of motto or life advice that you live by? I love the motto “If you never try, then you’ll never know.” I think that it is so important to get outside your comfort zone and experience as many things as possible! What is your all time favorite advertising campaign? This is an extremely hard question because there are so many great ones! One of my favourites has to be the Swiffer advertising campaign from a couple years ago. Not only am I germaphobe that swears by Swiffers’ capabilities, but I also loved that Swiffer used real people to demonstrate their products in the commercials. I mean, how could you not love Lee and Morty, the 91-year-old couple?

Keep up the awesome work, Caroline! We love recognizing our outstanding members. If you know someone who deserves a spotlight, email mmundo@ufl.edu.

Tonight’s Guest speaker Tim young Freelance Talent Acquisition “Making a difference by seeing others” A former creative, Tim transitioned within the advertising industry thanks to the support of others who took notice of his potential, ambition and can-do attitude. He embraced the opportunity to become a recruiter and leverage his social media KLOUT! Tim’s experience as a social + content producer, iPhoneographer, digital art director and illustrator has empowered him to contribute strategically beyond the “transactional” methods of traditional recruiting. As a hands-on, client-facing creative, Tim possesses a unique perspective, enabling him to create stronger relationships and become a conduit for others to engage and support one another. As a “Talent Ambassador”, Tim enjoys researching, listening to and promoting talented people. He’s energized by those who are passionate about challenging, inspiring and igniting a successful culture. For Tim, the words of David Ogilvy act as a touchstone and sum up best his philosophy:

“Hire people who are better than you are, then leave them to get on with it. Look for people who will aim for the remarkable, who will not settle for the routine.”

Super Bowl 50 had some great ads this year that weren’t to be missed (and if you did, you should check them out on AdWeek). But just as anticipated as the ads and the Big Game itself is the annual halftime show. And let’s be real: Fall and all, Beyonce rocked it.
