I hope y'all have had a great summer! I think everyone deserves a nice-long break from Spring Quarter - I definitely took a step back from CKI big-time, just to mentally prepare myself for Fall. We have a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks, from food runs to Families to Bigs and Littles, and all the committees being released, so I hope you took the time to recharge and prepare for an exciting new year in CKI

Lincoln-Brian Huynh Hey guys, it's been a great summer so far and I'm really glad to see that we're still very active despite our break from school. It's really cool to see people go out to improve their communities whether it be here in San Diego, in the Bay Area, or even Chicago. I hope everyone is enjoying their break cause we honestly all deserve it. See y'all in the Fall uwu i |  Editorial Content

Vanissa Tsang Hello thank you to everyone who came out to our summer events. It wouldn't have been successful without you all! Summer was super fun because it was hot enough where we can get boba after the service events! Hope everyone else enjoyed a great summer, especially doing that WASH challenge! Good luck on everyone's new school year. HAGS!

S E  R  V  I  C  E FIESTA ISLAND BEACH CLEAN-UP

"The Fiesta Island Cleanup was a very humbling experience and it opened my eyes to all the litter that was harming our beautiful oceans. I was joined by Hanna and Lincoln as we walked along the shore and nearby trail to pick up trash. We found items ranging from cigarettes and straws to plastic beach toys and water bottles. Although most of the litter was found on shore, it made me sad to think about how eventually it would have ended up in the ocean and harm our marine life. The most interesting thing I remembered about the cleanup was about an organization which was gleaming through the buckets of trash to collect hard plastics like spoons and small beach toys to be cleaned and reused for collage art. Thank you to Hanna Lam for organizing this event and allowing us an opportunity to clean up our beautiful beaches!" - Vivian Du

NOAH HOMES SUMMERFEST CONCERT FUNDRASIER "The Noah Homes SummerFest Concert was an extremely meaningful way to start off the summer with service and even get to focus on this year's DSI! As volunteers, we spent the day helping set up for a benefit concert for the Noah Homes which provide services for people with developmental disabilities. Although they were only small tasks like moving bags of ice around and setting up facilities, it's rewarding to know we helped contribute to the overall project that helped many people!" - Maricris Hernandez "Volunteering at the Noah Homes Summerfest was the highlight of my summer! I had a great time and I'm glad to be part of such a great event!!" - Fray Salmasan

S E  R  V  I  C  E BAY AREA: AIDS WALK SAN FRANCISCO

“Volunteering at AIDS Wall SF was a really great experience! AIDS walk is a wonderful event where people come together to raise money HIV/AIDS organizations and more awareness. Matthew and I worked with other volunteers at the info booth to help direct attendees to registration tables, and other areas of the venue before the walk started. Most of the volunteers I met had either run the event before, or volunteered at this event every year, and it was really inspiring to see how dedicated these people were. Despite the the cold morning and hot afternoon that led to sunburns, this is an event that I definitely want to go to again.” - Alexandra Wei

POINT LOMA NATIVE PLANT GARDEN

"If you’re looking for down and dirty service events then this is the event to be. This event ranges from Kiwanians to key clubbers and they’re both extremely friendly and sociable. The key clubbers asked us for advice for college and the Kiwanians really appreciates us for being there. This event is extremely rewarding and a lot of fun if you love being in the outdoors!" - Tri Tran "Gardening at the Point Loma Native Plant Garden was so much fun! The leader was really knowledgeable about plants and told us cool stories about the origins of plant names and other anecdotes. After a few hours of hard, hands-on work of removing non-native plants and adding some native ones, it was so rewarding to see the transformed product." - Alyssa Lew 02 |  SERVICE

S E  R  V  I  C  E SHELTER TO SOLDIER GALA SET-UP

"Shelter to Soldier is a non-profit organization that pairs war veterans with trained service dogs that have been resuced. These dogs are trained to help veterans with PTSD and other psychogloical injuries sustained in war, giving the dogs a purpose and a home and the veteran a service dog and a friend. By doing this, two lives are saved with one action. We will be helping set-up for their annual Be the Light Gala." - Alyssa Lew, Event Description "Connective and inspiring, helping out with the gala set up was fun and proved that a simple act of kindness can go a long way." - Amy Tang "Volunteering at the Noah Homes Summerfest was the highlight of my summer! I had a great time and I'm glad to be part of such a great event!!" - Fray Salmasan

S O  C  I  A  L FIREWORKS AT OCEAN BEACH

"Watching the fireworks at the beach with friends was honestly such a fun experience! I was initially bummed out because I couldn’t watch the fireworks back at home with my family because I was in San Diego for summer session, but Kylie’s social definitely made up for it!!" - Phillip Truong

ARTWALK AT LIBERTY STATION

"I went to ArtWalk because I wanted to see the local and international art that was displayed for attendees to admire. There were a lot of rarities like glass and metal sculptures to pictures of the beach to a huge tortoise. My favorite piece was this piece where the artist took books and carved into them to display 3D pop outs of what the book is about. Like a book about Queen Elizabeth, was carved to look like a dress and he stuck a picture of her face right on top." - Avelle Campell

PHUONG TRANG

"Phuong Trang Social revealed the true family bonding experience that is a part of Circle K. Eating pho, getting boba, making jokes––Circle K makes everybody feel welcomed, even those who are new to the club." - Amy Tang 04 |  SOCIALS

ICON/CKIx

"When I signed up for CKIx, I didn’t know what to expect because I haven’t been to DCON but it was one of the best decision because I was able to learn more about Kiwanis Family, meet other Circle K-ers from my district and other states, and explore the city of Chicago during lunch and dinner. Going to different workshops and the presentation that ICON had made me realize how much I really enjoy and want to learn more about the organization. The passion that other Circle K-ers has inspires me to want to do and be more of a presence in the organization. I totally recommend people to go next year because it is an unforgettable experience to learn more about Circle K and meet others who have the same passion for CKI." - Hanna Lam

RECOGNIZED UCSD CKI MEMBERS ON INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEES

Marné Amoguis Service Initiatives Ambassador International Service Committee

"I’m so grateful to have been appointed as the International Service Initiatives Ambassador! My committee is super great, and we’re working really hard to promote our service partners internationally. My position in particular is brand new — I’m the first to fill it! Essentially, I serve as a general service resource on the international level. I have a lot of exciting things planned, but I don’t wanna spoil anything, so keep an eye out!!"

"At first, I was conflicted on whether I wanted to apply for international committee but after going and experiencing CKIx, I was excited to apply because of all the materials I learned and the people I met. I wanted to apply because I was frustrated at myself for not applying to District committee and one of the last chances to apply for a committee was for international. Going into this position, I hope to gain communication skills since many of the members are from different parts of the world. Also, I hope to have it help me in my social media skills so I can help accounts improve their insights to spread others about CKI."

Anh Vo Secretary Finance Committee

Hanna Lam Social Media Assistant Media and Marketing Committee

"Being part of international is a humbling experience and I’m glad to be able to serve CKI on a larger scale. Although the time difference is big challenge, I’m excited for what we can accomplish this year."
