Driven by Our Promise™

LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD Welcome to Nucleus 2020! Whether you’ve attended before or this is your first time, Nucleus 2020 is a new experience for all of us. We recognize this has been a year like no other. We are somber in the face of the challenges impacting our nation and world, from the global pandemic to the urgent call for equality and an end to systemic racism. But we are optimistic that this year of distance from the norm is an opportunity to build a better status quo. We are hopeful when we see the work of so many to effect change. For that reason, we felt that, now more than ever, it was important to recognize the impact of those in our community who are pushing for change and have been doing so for years leading up to this moment. Despite an event that looks much different than previous years, our Nucleus Award Honorees are no less deserving of recognition and praise for their work that has had lasting impact and will continue to do so, beyond our current reality. Our three honorees - Benjamin Doranz, Aurora Archer and Sylvester Mobley - have overcome challenges, have shown remarkable leadership, and have been committed to help build a better, more equitable future for all. It is for these reasons that we are proud to celebrate their achievements tonight in commercialization, convening our region’s ecosystem, and cultivating the next generation of STEM talent. At the Science Center, we’ve shifted our operations significantly over the past six months, from creating high-quality, informative content to enjoy from home, to pushing forward with our commercialization activities virtually, to providing supplemental online support for educators who are re-envisioning the traditional classroom setting. But we know there’s more to be done. While we’ve historically supported scientists, innovators, entrepreneurs and thought leaders from all walks of life, we’ve expanded our reach with new initiatives like Workforce Development, to train adults without a traditional college degree for family-sustaining careers in STEM, and the Launch Lane accelerator which has invested in and continues to support startups focusing on some of the most pressing health and safety issues impacting our society. We hope you enjoy tonight’s program, and we hope you will continue to support our work. We believe discovery can go beyond improving our lives today, to help create a better and more equitable tomorrow. Sincerely, Michael A. DiPiano Chairman of the Board
