36 TH ANNUAL UC SAN DIEGO MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY OF SERVICE
4th year from Yucaipa, California Computer Engineering major UC San Diego Swim Team
4th year from Bell Gardens, California Theatre & Dance major MEChA board, Cross-Cultural Center intern
I have been heavily involved in MEChA because that is where I feel at home and found my niche. Being involved has made my UC San Diego life easier. I’ve been seeing myself grow and develop. Not just in the social aspect—I have outgrown my shyness—but also professionally.
5th year from Northridge, California Biology: Ecology, Behavior, Evolution major Native American Student Alliance
The Inter-Tribal Resource Center is my favorite hang out spot on campus; it’s basically my second home. If I need to look up something quickly, take a nap or just hang out with people, I come here.
There are so many resources you can utilize at UC San Diego. As a student athlete, I have learned whatever free time I have, I try to make it productive. I’m a part of the IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Excellence and Advancement) program here and that’s how I got my job. Networking is really important.
4th year from Atlanta, Georgia International Studies and Political Science major
Studying abroad in China and Spain has cultivated a spirit of fearlessness and ambition. I feel like the possibilities are limitless because I have interned, worked and studied in places that have challenged my ability to adapt. Now I truly believe there is nothing that I cannot achieve.
1st year from Escondido, California Human Development major
The African Student Association is very important to me because it’s really comforting to be around African-identifying students who have grown up with similar lifestyles. It’s nice to share funny African myths our parents passed on to us or to debate whose culture’s Jollof rice tastes better.
Class of 2015 Transfer from San Diego Mesa College Psychology Honors Program
After coming to UC San Diego and becoming involved with the Student Veterans Organization, I was able to see how valuable and worthwhile being a veteran could be.
Dean of Social Sciences Professor, Communication
Being at UC San Diego, you find out who you really are and what you are really capable of.
