Dip The Other Side:

Getting an email from CANTA, I was asked if I was interested in going on a blind date for a second time. Thinking I had nothing to lose, I accepted and waited tentatively for the date at the end of the week. Rocking up five minutes early, I noticed that the Shilling Club was busier than usual and I realised our date was sharing the same venue as the UCSA election results. I got directed to a table by the server and waited a few minutes until I noticed a girl walk in and wait by the bar. The server pointed me out and after a wonderful handshake that she wasn’t sure if it was the way to go, we sat down and got into introducing ourselves. After ordering a beer and dumplings, while she only asked for water and dumplings (why not make the most of a free blind date right?), we got right into talking and I’m happy to say there were no awkward silences to be had the entire date! Starting right off, with her studying commerce and myself studying engineering, we realized we wouldn’t have any mutual friends at all in true blind date

fashion. As a true veteran of blind dates at this point too, I was more than ready to handle any questions about interests, travel, study, and why on earth we both decided to go on a blind date too. Talking in between mouthfuls of dumplings was challenging at times but we both agreed it was awesome food for our first times eating at the Shilling Club and although it was reasonably busy with the election event, I didn’t find it difficult to hear her over the noise. Overall the date went well and I hate to say it for everyone who reads it but there was no juicy drama and I don’t think there’ll be a second date. Although it was a nice date, we just didn’t hit it off enough where it could lead into anything which is a shame as she was cute and easy to talk to. I definitely have enjoyed my two chances at going on blind dates so thanks CANTA, I’ll consider this great practice for when I do meet that one girl, whenever that happens.
