1984 National Championship In 2004, the University of Connecticut joined Central Missouri as the only two schools to win both the men’s and women’s national championships in basketball. No one, though, will ever match UCM’s feat of winning both titles on the same date in the same location. The Mules and Jennies were especially dominant at home, winning a combined 37-of-38 games at the UCM Multipurpose Building. For the Mules, it was a year of living dangerously, as they played 11 games that were decided by five points or less. As champions do, they were great in those contests, winning all 11, including the semifinal game against North Alabama, 89-85 in overtime. Ron Nunnelly (right) paced Central Missouri throughout the year, averaging 23 points per game, while Tyrone Lee (22) and Mark Lolar (44) played key supporting roles.
