Tues 5th - Preparing to volunteer workshop

On Avenham Park. Search ‘ozonefit’ for more details.

The class will outline the benefits of volunteering, skills that come into play, the commitment and responsibility that comes with the roles and discovering what you can offer as a volunteer. Venue: Opportunity Centre Time: 5-7pm Cost: £10

Tue 5th - Walk at ten

Ozone military fitness session Focusing on one object displayed in the Harris Museum gallery and exploring the story behind it. Venue: Harris Museum Time: 1pm – 1.30pm Cost: FREE For details visit - www.harrismuseum.org.uk

Sun 20th - Winter bird walk: Feathered friends

Monthly ranger lead guided walk. Discover Lancaster Canal and the Millennium Link. Meet at the rangers pavilion by the bowling green. Venue: Haslam Park Time: 10am-12. Cost: FREE

Wed 6th - First aid course

Join the rangers about the RSPB’S bird watch. Play the ‘birdy’ quiz and make your own bird feeder to take home. Venue: Avenham pavilion Time: 1-3 Cost: FREE

Get your first aid qualification, delivered by the Red Cross. Always handy to have and will look great on your CV. Book early to avoid disappointment. (You must complete both sessions, first session delivered in Jan) Venue: Meeting room 1 Time: 5-7pm Cost: £20

Thur 24th - Grub Club

Come and learn some new cooking skills, taste the food created and discover a few budget saving recipes. Venue: Atrium Time: 4pm – 5pm Cost: FREE

Sat 26th - Ice skating trip - Bring a friend

Have fun on the ice – and try out your dancing on ice moves! Open to beginners or experienced alike. This is a great way to unwind and chase away the January blues. Cost includes entry fee, transport and skate hire. Venue: Blackburn Ice Rink Time:1pm – 6pm Cost: £14

Re-freshers’ fair with a difference. Societies and sports will be recruiting new members throughout the week at different entrance locations across campus. Great for meeting new people, trying out new ideas and getting away from the computer screen for a bit! Venue: Various Time: 11am – 3pm

Wed 30th January - Budget boosters workshop

Spent up at Christmas and now finding it difficult to stretch the pennies? This little workshop will give you some handy pointers on making your money go further and living within your means. Venue: Opportunities Centre Time: 2pm - 3:30pm

Experience a different culture’s New Year Celebrations. Manchester attracted 70,000 people last year and 2013,the year of the snake, is set to be bigger and better than ever before. Dragon dances, kungfu demonstrations, and fireworks are just some of the highlights of this annual public celebration. Venue: Manchester Time: 11-6pm Cost: £8

Mon 11th - Green week launches

‘Highlights include the comedian Mark Watson on Monday 11th (53DEGREES) a free showing of the film The Lorax (53DEGREES) and the popular campus rickshaw riders. Visit the Green Team in Harrington Kitchen and Foster Lounge where you can get information and freebies to help you to be greener, ride our free bike-powered smoothy maker and try different games and puzzles to show the environmental impacts of your lifestyle choices. Thurs 14th - Fall in love with volunteering fair

The first job club of the year! Gain professional help and information on searching for and securing a job. Venue: Opportunity Centre Time: 1.30-3pm Cost: FREE

Take a day trip to Liverpool to explore the beautiful city and its surroundings. Price includes transport and a ticket onto the Mersey Ferry. There are various places to visit whilst you are there, including; The Beatles Story, Maritime Museum, Museum of Liverpool Life, Tate Liverpool Gallery, Spaceport, U-boat story or simply explore Liverpool one and its centre for shopping and dining out. Venue: Liverpool Time: 9-7pm Cost: £15
