POSTSEASON C-USA AWARDS • For the second time in school history, UCF received two major conference awards in the same season, as senior free safety Kemal Ishmael was voted as the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year and senior kick returner Quincy McDuffie picked up C-USA Special Teams Player of the Year honors. • The last time the Knights earned two major awards was in 2010 when Bruce Miller was voted as the defensive player of the year while Jeff Godfrey was the offensive player of the year. • Since UCF joined the league in 2005, it boasts three C-USA Defensive Player of the Year awards, the most of any school. The Knights, meanwhile, are tied atop the chart with East Carolina with two C-USA Special Teams Player of the Year accolades. KR/PR Joe Burnett received the honor in 2008.

A BRIEF LOOK AT UCF’S HISTORY • With UCF earning another C-USA division title in just its eighth year in the league, here is a quick glance at the Knights’ history since the program’s first year in 1979: Year Event 1979 Defeats St. Leo, 21-0, in its first game 1982 Jumps from NCAA Division III to D-II 1985 Gene McDowell takes over as head coach and proceeds to lead the Knights for 13 seasons, building an 86-61 coaching record 1987 Reaches the NCAA D-II Playoffs for the first time 1990 Enters the NCAA FCS, and becomes the first school to make postseason play in its first year in that division (finished 10-4) 1995 Florida’s Mr. Football in high school, Daunte Culpepper begins his UCF career as he would later set over 30 school records and be sixth in the 1998 Heisman Trophy balloting 1996 Makes its debut as a member of the FBS 2000 Claims its first win over a BCS program by defeating Alabama, 40-38 2002 Joins its first conference by entering the MAC as a football-only member 2005 A year after an 0-11 season, second-year head coach George O’Leary guides the team into C-USA where it hosts the first-ever C-USA title game (lost 44-27 to Tulsa) and reaches its first bowl game (Hawaii Bowl) 2006 Last home game at the Florida Citrus Bowl 2007 Opens Bright House Networks Stadium on campus vs. No. 6 Texas 2007 Led by consensus All-American running back Kevin Smith, defeats Tulsa in the C-USA Championship Game and earns a trip to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl 2009 Defeats first FBS ranked team in No. 13/12 Houston en route to the St. Petersburg Bowl 2010 Under the guidance of true freshman quarterback Jeff Godfrey, sets the school record with 11 wins, including defeating SMU in the C-USA Championship Game and Georgia in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl for its first bowl victory 2011 Boasts six players on the C-USA All-Freshman Team, and after the season the Knights accept an invitation to join the BIG EAST Conference for all sports beginning in the 2013-14 academic year. 2012 Earns its fourth division title in its eighth and final season in C-USA en route to the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl, while the Knights lead the league with six players on the All-C-USA First Team • UCF paced the entire league with six Knights named to the All-C-USA First Team. • Nine Knights overall received a spot on either the first or second team, ranking behind only Tulsa, which had 10. UCF’s six student-athletes tagged to the first team tied a school record, as the 2007 Knights also earned six All-C-USA First Team selections.
