A Message From The President Welcome to the University of Bridgeport! Thank you for your interest in one of America’s truly unique institutions of higher learning. We are the home of the Purple Knights in the City of Parks! Since 1927, the University of Bridgeport has cared about our students, their future, and the city for which we are named. Only in Bridgeport will you find a gorgeous Frederick Law Olmsted park bordering campus, over two miles of coastline, and convenient mass transportation that makes visiting New York City or Boston a breeze. Students enjoy small classes and close mentoring by talented faculty.

University of Bridgeport Mission The University of Bridgeport offers career-oriented undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees and programs for people seeking personal and professional growth. The University promotes academic excellence, personal responsibility, and commitment to service. Distinctive curricula in an international, culturally diverse, supportive learning environment prepare graduates for life and leadership in an increasingly interconnected world. The University is independent and non-sectarian.

Whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student, interested in engineering, business, computer science, education, a health-related program, or the humanities, arts and sciences, the University offers a wealth of choices that will lead you to future career opportunities. The University has a lively on-campus culture, filled with student clubs, NCAA sports teams, student government, and theater productions. You will make lifelong friends here and connect with a strong alumni base. The University of Bridgeport is also well known for having one of the most beautiful and safest campuses in America. In Mark Twain’s classic novel, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, Hank Morgan is an engineer who is hit on the head and wakes up in England during King Arthur’s reign. As Hank and Sir Kay gallop over a hill, a beautiful city emerges. “Bridgeport?” asks Hank. “Camelot,” answers Sir Kay. On behalf of everyone at the University of Bridgeport, I offer you my heartiest welcome!

Laura Skandera Trombley, President

Picture Yourself at the University of Bridgeport For nearly 100 years, the University of Bridgeport has offered its students a quality education at a great value. Students may choose from a wide array of undergraduate and graduate programs and majors that best fit their interests and career aspirations. The University is the most diverse private, secular university among Northeast regional universities. Our professors are approachable and know their students by their first names. You are not just a number at the University of Bridgeport. Our faculty have office hours and meet with students after class, providing them with personalized attention. We are an inclusive, friendly, and diverse campus. According to U.S. News & World Report, the University of Bridgeport has the third-highest percentage of international students in the Northeast Region. Your education will continue outside of the classroom with lively discussions in the cafeterias, residence halls, and a soon-to-open eight-lane bowling alley. The University is the right size for optimal learning. As a mid-sized university, we are able to offer remarkable academic and co-curricular personalized experiences that are not possible at larger universities. At UB, we think that a great learning environment should also be enjoyable. There are many clubs to join that range from discipline-specific to service organizations to club sports. And finally, as a UB graduate, you will be prepared for early career success! With three remarkable colleges structured for the intricate interplay of interdisciplinary learning, you will be prepared for the 21st-century marketplace. Are you ready to be a Purple Knight? Are you ready to be Bold—Bridgeport Bold?

The stunning location of the University of Bridgeport has been written about in literary classics such as F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. The beauty of the Seaside Park location is a great inspiration to faculty, staff, and students. In fact, each year students take “The Plunge” on Convocation Day, kicking off the beginning of the academic year.

The Bridgeport Plan The University of Bridgeport is launching a signature program, The Bridgeport Plan, in fall 2019. The plan will transform, enrich, and expand the academic, co-curricular, and career opportunities for our students through a comprehensive hands-on approach that includes a personalized plan tailored to their specific goals and interests. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and others will participate in this experience that begins on day one and carries through to graduation and beyond—creating pathways for our students to thrive in our diverse community. Evidence shows that the most successful colleges intentionally offer programming and services to complement their own unique mission. With the University’s core values of academic excellence, a focus on career-oriented undergraduate and graduate programs, and community and civic engagement, our students will graduate ready to lead rewarding and fulfilling personal and professional lives. All first-year students will participate in community service and outreach activities that prepare them to be leaders in their communities and to be socially responsible citizens of the world. The Bridgeport Plan inspires the leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, and practitioners of tomorrow.
