MOSCOW SIGHTSEEING As one of the most vibrant European capitals, Moscow is a powerful mix of history and edginess, full of world-famous sites and attractions. Russia’s capital has been in existence for more than 800 years and has enough to keep visitors busy for months - starting with Europe’s oldest fortress and grandiose cathedrals to lively green spaces and futuristic skyscrapers. HISTORY Since it was first mentioned in the chronicles of 1147, Moscow has played a vital role in Russian history. It became the capital of Muscovy (the Grand Principality of Moscow) in the late 13th century. Today Moscow is not only the political centre of Russia but also the country’s most populous city and its industrial, cultural, scientific, and educational capital. For more than 600 years Moscow also has been the spiritual centre of the Russian Orthodox Church. PLACES OF INTEREST The sprawling city of Moscow is a mixture of historical and contemporary sights.A tourist in Moscow has a lot of choice. From the Red Square and the Kremlin to tours in the outskirts of the city, there is something for everyone. You can shop, engage in cultural activities in the capital of music and theatre, or simply be captivated by the beautiful surroundings of Moscow. RED SQUARE (Krásnaya Plóshid in Russian) is the heart of Moscow. It is the main Moscow postcard and, in fact, the main postcard of Russia. This is where Moscovites come for official ceremonies, concerts and where the government often hosts events on national holidays. OUTDOOR SPACES Gorky Park was created during Soviet times by a constructivist architect and underwent major renovations in 2011. This is Moscow’s version of Central Park or Hyde Park, right on the bank of the Moskva river. With fountains, a lake, a modern art museum, tennis courts and skate rinks, Gorky Park is one of Moscovites’ favorite place to spend a Sunday afternoon.
WELCOME TO MOSCOW!!
