C ooperative E ducation P rogram Cooperative Education (Co-op) is a unique academic program at The University of Alabama designed to integrate students’ academic studies with professional work experience in partnering business, industry or government agencies. Students alternate periods of full-time study with full-time paid practical work experience related to their major or career interest. Students often begin their first work period either the summer or fall after their freshman year. Transfer students are eligible to begin work after one semester in

residence. Students then alternate semesters of work and school until the completion of three semesters (a fall, spring and summer term). While in school, students carry regular course schedules. While on Co-op, they work with professionals in their fields who supervise their training and work. Students maintain their full-time student status while at work (scholarships and financial aid are deferred to next academic term) and have priority registration status each semester through graduation.

P rofessional P ractice I nternship P rogram The Professional Practice Program (PP) is a unique option available for a single full-time semester work experience or some other distinctive experience not met by an established divisional internship program. To qualify as Professional Practice, the opportunity must exist in a nonsummer semester (fall or spring). Students must secure approval from their academic department and submit a completed application for consideration. Upon approval students must enroll in an appropriate PP class to maintain full-time student status.
