Membership Services


All lockers are rented on an annual basis, but must be renewed prior to the Campus Recreation Annual Shutdown each year. All lockers are purchased/renewed at the Welcome Desk with Membership Services or you can call 205-996-5038 to purchase or renew over the phone. Locker prices are as follows: Half Locker ($60), Full Locker ($72) and Quarter Locker (Men Only, $30). Day use lockers are also available free for members to use while working out. Members must bring their own lock to utilize the Day Use lockers and remove all belongings from Day Use Locker prior to leaving the facility after each workout.


Campus Recreation will validate a parking ticket, from the 9th Ave. Parking Deck, for all UAB Faculty/Staff, Non-Employees and Non-Student Members (includes: Alumni, Recent Alumni, Retirees, and Household Members) of the CRCT on your way out and will pay for up to two hours of parking per validation any time before 4pm. Beyond the first two hours, costs will be the responsibility of the member to pay when exiting the parking deck. Several area lots are available at no cost to any member after 4 PM weekdays and on weekends, including Lot 5A*, and all lot 15 parking lots and decks. * Beginning Spring 2014 Lot 5A will be closing February - April due to HUC rebuilding. Forget your shampoo for the shower after your workout? Want a new yoga mat without spending time in long lines? Stop by the Pro Shop at the Welcome Desk to see a variety of products including: socks, goggles, mouth guards, racquetball racquets, racquetballs, locks, ear buds, deodorant, body soap, shampoo, conditioner, boxing gloves, and more!


Sports and fitness equipment is available for rent with valid ID to CRCT patrons at the Welcome Desk. Equipment includes: basketballs, soccer balls, weight belts, and more!


Workout towels are also available at the Welcome Desk free of charge; simply return them after your workout. Campus Rec patrons are limited to 2 large towels and 1 small towel per visit. Program participants are not eligible for towel services unless they are a CRCT member.


All UAB employees may enjoy the facility for $8/day by sponsoring themselves if they are not ready to purchase a membership. References from current members are not needed! Guests must be sponsored by a current CRCT patron and pay $8/day at the Welcome Desk upon arrival to access the facility. Sponsors will be limited to three guests per day and must follow CRCT policies and procedures of the facility.


Kid Zone allows kids, ages 3-12, to explore different amenities in the facility with certified personnel of the CRCT staff. All of our staff members are trained in CPR/AED and First Aid to better assure the safety of your child. Kids will enjoy play time on the climbing wall, basketball courts, racquetball courts and game room depending on their age and activity level. The cost is $10/month per child or $5/day per child. Kid Zone is available during facility operating hours. Please remember children can only remain in the Kid Zone for a maximum of 2 hours. Sign up at the Welcome Desk today!


Facility Rentals


The UAB Campus Recreation Center houses four basketball courts that can be separated by three divider curtains. Court spaces can be setup to host a number of events including basketball,volleyball, and large gatherings.


Center Court is a multipurpose space that can be setup for basketball, volleyball, soccer, badminton and floor hockey. This court is able to hold 700 people.


The UAB Campus Recreation Climbing Wall stands 36 feet high and 43 feet wide. The wall overlooks the track, fitness area, and lobby. No experience needed to climb as we have trained staff to make your experience a safe and enjoyable one.


The UAB Campus Recreation Aquatic Center is a show piece for those interested in leisure or fitness. This space is designed for swimmers of all ages and abilities to ejoy the water. With zero depth entry, we encourage all pool lovers to enjoy our lap lanes, whirlpool, spa, and lazy river.


The Outdoor Patio is connected to the Aquatic Center and allows you to enjoy the view of the UAB Campus Green. Patio furniture is provided all year round. This space is also available for your next gathering!



With three studios available for rent all varying in size and capacity, nearly any event can be held!


Rental options are also available for those wanting to host a pool party! We host groups of 20-50 participants for up to two hours and provide optional locations and party activities such as cake and presents! Be sure to book the NEW Wet Classroom located in the Aquatic Center!


Kickback and relax in our game room area! This space is setup to bring out the kid in everybody. Our game room houses two billiard tables, air hockey, three flatscreen televesions, three ping-pong tables, foosball, Wii and X-Box.

Your Facility


The UAB Campus Recreation Center offers you the best opportunities for recreation and fitness. You will find everything you need to stay active and more all under one roof - free weights, court sports, swimming pools, group fitness classes, nutrition education, fitness areas, a climbing wall, and much more! Your 150,000 square foot building covers three floors. Within this facility there are four basketball/volleyball courts, five racquetball courts (one which can be converted to squash and four for wallyball), five aerobics studios, and the Center court gym used for indoor soccer, floor hockey and badminton. There is also 18,000 square feet of weight and cardio-fitness areas, an aquatics center with both lap and leisure components, a partially-suspended indoor track, climbing wall, Kid Zone, game room, and Power Zone.

Looking for the perfect camp? If so, the UAB Campus Recreation Camp Program is the perfect place for any child! We offer ten consecutive weeks of diverse summer programming with the option of before or after-care. Before and after-care are great for when your child has a “no school” day! If you are working and want them to be supervised and have fun on their free day, remember UAB’s before and after-care! With the help of our amazing staff your child will have the opportunity to explore adventure sports, exciting crafts, aquatics activities, and everything the Recreation Center really has to offer.

Summer Camps require a $70 deposit for participant spot reservation. Summer Camp begins June 2, 2014 and will be a 10 week camping experience! It is $190 for UAB Employee/Members and $220 for non-members, with 10% off additional sibling(s) registration. This amount includes the $70 deposit and will provide lunch to each camper! Spots are limited to 70 participants per week and early registration is encouraged. Depending on reserved spots, drop-in spots will become available as space allows. Capacity of campers accepted varies according to staff schedule and number of expected campers.

DAY CAMPS Day camps are available for those ages 5-12 years old to attend at the UAB Recreation Center. Snacks are provided, but campers need to bring their own lunch. Day camps are limited to 50 participants and early registration is encouraged.

Home School Program

Home School’d Program Any child who attends grade school at home and falls in the age group of 5-18 is eligible to participate in UAB’s Home School Program. This Program is open to UAB affiliated and non-UAB affiliated persons. With concentration on skill building for in physical education and team sports, your child or children are sure to learn and have fun with other participating students! Students will be divided by age group so each student is ensured to lean his/her curriculum that the Alabama Department of Education requires. The UAB Home School program is meant to provide a basic framework, not replace the daily activity required by the ADOE. The safety of your child is our top priority! Each session is facilitated by highly motivated and energetic students and professionals. All instructors and program leaders have current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications. Staff members will have a first aid kit and two-way radio at all times so they are in constant contact with program coordinators, instructors, and facility supervisors in case of an emergency.


There are several dates available for registration starting in September until April! All session times last from 1pm - 4pm. You will pay per session, but you can sign up for any number of sessions. Cycling on the Green

FREE cycling class held on the green! The first annual event was held Summer 2013 and will be featured again.

Sunrise Yoga on the Green

This new yoga series began in Summer 2013. Participants began their day with relaxation and inner peace every Friday at 7:30am with this free summer class!

Ladies Night Out

This special cycling event is programmed for ladies only! For a small fee, joining this cycling class gave participants a fun, cardio intensive getaway. Each member receives a t-shirt, sweatband, and cycling pass.

Fitness Specials Free Weight Exercises

Learn the benefits of using free weights as well as simple exercises to do at home or the gym. This class is ideal for all fitness levels.

Stretch Xpress

This integrated stretch class includes a mix of static and dynamic dance and sports based stretching techniques focused on increasing flexibility, range of motion and postural muscle strength. Outdoor Pursuits Trip Series

The Outdoor Pursuits department of the UAB Campus Recreation Center offers a variety of Adventure trips. We travel all over the country to bring you the best in outdoor recreation for all skill levels. Trip activities include backpacking, boating, biking, climbing, caving, and more! New trips are scheduled every year, popular trips are offered each year on the same weekend, and some trips are offered every other year for a variety. Unless noted otherwise, trip fees cover transportation, park entry fees, sleeping arrangements, and equipment. Food and clothing are not included in the trip price.

Equipment Rental

Our Campus Recreation Outdoor Pursuits rental program is ready to equip you with any gear you need to enjoy the wilderness and outdoor resources in the Southeast! With the largest boat rental fleet in the city, we have over 50 different canoes, kayaks and sea kayaks ready for rental. Equipment can be rented by UAB affiliates and any other member of the community. You can choose from various boating and camping equipment at daily, 3-days, and weekly times. Some equipment includes kayaks, canoes, tents, camp stoves, bikes, volleyball sets, and much more! Please visit the Outdoor Pursuits section of the site for rental options.

Climbing Wall

The Campus Recreation indoor climbing wall stands at 36 feet high, over 43 feet wide, and has over 1500 square feet of climbing surfaces. Climbing routes are set and rated by our highly qualified staff using the Yosemite Decimal System. Indoor climbing offers the advantages of climate controlled enjoyment. No need to worry about rain or blistering heat when you are climbing in an air conditioned environment. Campus Recreation offers many opportunities for team building initiatives, catering toward campus groups, corporate outings, school groups and more! Our enthusiastic and skilled facilitators will guide your group through this hour long program of fun activities focused on enhancing and developing vital workplace and life skills such as teamwork, cooperation, communication, and trust. The UAB Campus Recreation Aquatic Center offers something for everyone in a unique and spacious design. Get a great workout in with lap lanes , take aqua aerobic classes, relax in the lazy river, or soak in the hot tub! The Aquatic Center can be reserved for parties too! The Aquatic Center at UAB has a variety of amenities including lap lanes, a hot tub, a whirlpool, and water basketball games.

UAB Starfish Swim School UAB Campus Recreation Center has partnered with the nationally recognized

Starfish Aquatics Institute to host the swim school program. Starfish Swimming curriculum is designed for those aged 6 months to adults. Instructors are all certified swim trainers through Starfish Aquatics Institute and have training in First Aid, CPR and AED.


Starfish Swim Courses StarBabies: This course will foster a high comfort level in the water for very young children, while at the same time train parents and caregivers in water safety and drowning prevention.

Starfish Preschool: Participation in one class of StarBabies or equivalent program is highly recommended before enrollment in this course.

Starfish Swim School: Students will work toward development of the five core swimming competencies and receive color stage awards for each achievement.

Five Core Competencies (Starfish Preschool and Swim School) Stage White – Trust and Comfort Stage Red - Body Positions Stage Yellow – Submersions Stage Blue - Air Recovery and Rollover Stage Green – Forward Movement

Starfish Stroke School: For students of any age that want to refine freestyle and learn stroke techniques for backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, butterfly and more.

Starfish Swim Team Training: This developmental program designed to transition students 8+ from swim lessons to a competitive swim team program.

Adult Beginner: For adults who do not have experience in the water. Participants will work on comfort in the water, body positions, submersion, air recovery and forward movement. All UAB students, staff, and faculty are eligible to participate in intramural sports. Faculty and Staff must adhere to the specific entrance policies if they are not campus recreation facility members. Individuals in any team league must have their one card or valid UAB issued I.D. with them to be eligible to participate. Each league price will vary, but a majority will only cost $5/sport to participate. Check out our website for more detailed pricing.

Team Leagues

Every team league is offered in men’s, women’s and co-rec format. Each league will have a 4 week regular season followed by a single elimination playoff. Fall leagues will include: flag football, indoor soccer, dodge ball, water polo, floor hockey, and volleyball. Spring leagues will include: basketball, indoor soccer, softball, handball, kickball, and ultimate frisbee.

Community Leagues

Anyone 18 years of age or older is eligible to participate. All com community leagues are open to both UAB affiliated and non-UAB affili affiliated persons. Current sports offered include: flag football, basket basketball, indoor soccer, volleyball, sand volleyball, and dodgeball.


Individual Tournament Events

All single day tournaments are single or double elimination. Tournaments offered include: badminton, corn hole, billiards, table tennis, swimming, track & field, triathlon, Texas Hold’em, sand volleyball, disc golf,paintball, Blazer Bench-Off, Dodgeball Extravaganza, 4-Person Golf, Racquetball, and March Mayhem.

Fantasy Sports

Fantasy Sports are also offered through the intramural program. Current sports offered include: football, pig skin pick-em, NCAA basketball tourney, and baseball. Simply register online and you will be given the league ID and password. Each league will be in a head-to-head format and the draft is done online.

Club Sports

A Club Sport is an organized group of individuals established to promote interest in a sport and develop skills of its members in that sport.
