Bravura Bulls and Raunchy Prints
The prints on show reflect the breadth and genius of Picasso’s art, many featuring iconic Picasso images. La Pique Cassee showcases a matador, a subject beloved of Picasso. The artist was an aficionado of the bull fight and powerfully identified with the bravery and passion of the bull. Classic cubist portrait, Donna Nella Poltrona Gialla, showcases Picasso’s distinctive palette and composition. Raunchy, occasionally graphic prints, of a similar style to those featured in the British Museum’s latest collection, also feature. Original Picasso paintings such as Nude, Green Leaves and Bust have achieved above 100 million dollars. La Minotauromachie recently set a record for a single print sold at auction, fetching £1.3 million at Sotheby’s. This chance to both view and buy Picasso’s work at an affordable level is extremely rare.

Sculptural Figures from Carl Melegari
Currently on show is new work by popular Balman Gallery artist Carl Melegari and new artist to the gallery, David Farren. Born in North Wales of Italian parentage, Carl Melagari now lives in Bristol. Carl’s work shares some of the passion and spontaneity of Picasso’s art, life radiating from canvases which literally drip with oil. His figures seem almost alive and sculptural. Carl has exhibited internationally, for example at Mostra di Pittura di San Bonifacio, Italy and The Salon Des Nations, Paris.

Manhattan Magic: David Farren

David Farren’s work provides a complete contrast. David aims to provide a snapshot of everyday street life: Manhattan and London frequently feature in his cityscapes, which are saturated with atmosphere. He is fascinated by changing light within his urban scenes and uses colour to portray its effects on steel, glass and rain-washed streets. David’s paintings are widely held in local and international collections.
