AN INSIGHT INTO WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING IN PHOTOGRAPHIC AND DIGITAL MEDIA CLASS IN 2014
This course has only been running for a few weeks and I have only been doing this course for a few weeks also, everyone new to it and I must say itâ€™s quite intriguing and educational. Through the many months of theory and practical work I have been able to develop quality photographs and learnt new skills in the area. I have come across many inspirational photographers through the theory work part of this course, helping me to want to exceed up to their limits.
My camera skills have developed greatly and I have learnt one or two new things about my camera which I think has helped a lot. There are many times when we are able to do practical work in school that I think has done a bit of the work in developing my skills and I am very grateful for those moments, although I do wish we got more of those moments.
USING WEB BASED TOOLS Throughout the start of the course, I was introduced to websites such as: Weebly and Pinterest. Through Weebly I was taught how to create my own class website that came in handy a lot. It was used for storing things and used for class tasks also. Weebly is a very helpful tool and in my opinion was like an archive, storing all my work but still allowing me to be able to update the certain parts that I needed to. Pinterest didn’t have many things in common with Weebly. It was used to look at certain photographer’s prints and photographs and was also used for our opinions and reviews of the photos posted onto Pinterest. I didn't really like this tool for some reason. It wasn’t as helpful to me as Weebly was and we didn’t really use the site excessively.
The reviewing of these photos was very important because it helped us pick out significant points and weak spots of taking photographs. I took the reviewing parts of the assessment very seriously as I knew it would help us succeed and teach us the important parts of taking good shots. I think we investigated the practice of other photographers to help us find out what sort of pictures and certain things we prefer to take shots of. It aimed at looking at what sort of things we’d prefer to photograph. I really did enjoy looking in to the lives of other photographers and see what sort of paths and journeys they took to get to where them and they’re photos are. I wish to become like them one day.
THE PRODUCTION PROCESS In this segment of the assessment, we were to photograph about 60 things that went into 10 certain categories. The 10 categories were to be full of pictures that we took ourselves and then simplified down to just two manipulated photos to be embedded onto our sites so we could be assessed on our practical ability. Over a large amount of days I have produced a fairly good amount of photos and have manipulated certain pictures that I have deemed worthy enough to place on my Weebly. I must admit I thought I wouldn’t be very good as I did not start taking an interest in photograph until a quarter through last year but throughout the term I have learnt new skills and have produced a worthy amount of photographs that personally I think are nice. What I didn’t like about the practical side of the task is that we didn’t really get certain planned periods where we could go out and get shots, organising things like certain theory lessons and certain practical lessons, I think, would’ve really helped. But there are a lot of pros to this side of the task. Firstly I really did enjoy going out at the times we were aloud to and take photographs that could be used and just practice our skills. I discovered that photography was a hobby that I enjoyed very much. I learnt how to really appreciate nature and landscape, how lighting can affect almost everything and that I aspire to be a great landscape photographer when I grow up. And I also learnt that my wide imagination really did help me to succeed. I was surprised with the results of my pictures because I hadn’t really had much practice with cameras like mine before and didn’t really associate with cameras often that weren’t outside of holidays or things like that.

Although I didn't use this picture in my assignment, I thought it would be a good example of the manipulation of a photograph. These are the things that have changed: -The splash of the water has been made clearer
-The resolution and brightness of the picture has darkened making more things clearer and not as pale -Colours stand out more in the manipulated photograph -The straightness and levelling of the photo is more even than the non-manipulated photo -I also cropped the photo to make it look closer up and bring more attention to the splash of the h2o Well bye Tyla callary

What new skills and or techniques did you learn through the process? I learnt how to use photoshop in the correct manner as I didnâ€™t know how to use it in a manner used for editing.
What do you think worked best in your finished work? I think the finished products worked best as they had been manipulated to look better than the first product.
What problems did you face in creating this work and how did you resolve them? Camera issues were a big thing, figuring out how to use it and what to do with it and also starting out on photoshop was a bit confusing but throughout the manipulation task, I grasped onto it. How do you rate the quality of your finished work?
TERM TWO This term we’re focusing on stuff like digital manipulation and other things that are digital. We focused on some digital work last term which I, personally, didn't enjoy as much as I would have liked to. I want to start doing things in the dark room, but digital manipulation will have to suffice. We’re also focusing on our digital journal greatly so far we haven’t done anything hands on/practical the times I have been at school. There’s no homework so far in this part of the course and I’m loving that lol.
VIVID LIGHT SHOW: SYDNEY The vivid light show is a light show in Sydney that has been running for about six years. It is a show in which colour, music and ideas come to life on the shores of Sydney Harbour and throughout. Vivid is a festival of light, music and ideas that transforms the city of Sydney into a spectacular canvas after dark each night in June. In 2009 the inaugural Vivid Sydney festival attracted 200,000 people to The Rocks and Circular Quay. First held in 2009, Vivid Sydney hasnâ€™t taken long to become a major Sydney event. Originally a light show that was based around the Sydney Opera House, the annual celebration has grown to include more than just spectacular light displays. Side events come in the form of concerts, industry par-ties, and trade shows, among other things.
NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY ISSUES Taking pictures after dark, by moonlight, is a technique that many photographers have attempted. It involves a tripod-mounted camera with the shutter left open until enough light has reached the film to create a properly exposed negative. Even with today's fast films, exposures can be many minutes long, especially for pictures created by moonlight alone. Many problems beset the night worker, such as: •Reciprocity Aim: n exposure adjustment which is needed with film exposures longer than one second. The correction is exponential, i.e. the longer the duration of the original expo-sure, the greater the correction needed. •Flare: Stray light from streetlights included within the frame can seriously degrade image quality. Strong light sources just out of the image area can also cause flare, but can be eliminated by shading the lens.
Casts: Odd colour shifts caused by using colour film under mixed lighting, combined with long exposures, which in themselves can cause different colour effects. This can either be frustrating or exciting, depending on the type of image expected.
• Movement: Long night exposures cause moving objects to record as streaks or lines. This can be a nuisance, or can be used to good effect, for instance when photographing the movement of stars or traffic.
