Warriors battle it out The Meerendal wine estate was the battleground for South Africa’ biggest obstacle course racing series, the Warrior Race, this past weekend. Participants pushed themselves to the limits as they battled slippery slopes, jumped off heights and ran and waded their way through various obstacles. Pictured is Linda Petersen from Blouberg. PARTNERSHIP: NEW PLAN FOR CITY COPS TO CLAMP DOWN
Taxis taken to task MONIQUE DUVAL

A
new partnership between Bayside Mall and the City of Cape Town will soon see taxi troubles and illegal trading being tackled. According to a statement by ward 107 councillor Nicky Rheeder, the City and the mall will be entering into a formal memo-
randum of agreement (MOA) which will see two Law Enforcement officers deployed between 06:30 and 20:30 every day. Rheeder says the officers will be patrolling on foot at the Raats Drive and Blaauwberg Road sections bordering Bayside Mall. “The officers will fulfil a Law Enforcement function focusing on bylaw contraventions and taxi transgressions. The project will deploy six officers working three shifts
thus having two officers deployed at a time.” The plan is to have this project implemented by Tuesday 1 November. For several months now, many residents have raised concerns about the conduct of taxi drivers and the mess left behind by traders. At the centre of their concern is the slipway at McDonald’s where taxis can be found parking illegally every day and obstructing the traffic flow.
Earlier this year, residents also told TygerBurger they refuse to go shopping at the mall until the issues are resolved. Responding to questions, Rheeder says the project was conceptualised by officials of the City’s transport department along with the management of Bayside Mall and the main reasons were the taxi transgressions around the mall as well as the illegal trading.
