light has been lit for visually impaired pre-schoolers in the community. Last week The Athlone School for the Blind in Bellville South was proud to announce the opening of their Zisukhanya Early Childhood Development Centre for blind and visually impaired pre-schoolers. “Zisukhanya, means to bring light in isiXhosa,” said Patricia Scheepers, head of the psychology department at the school. “By starting this centre we endeavour to bring light into the minds of the affected child from a very early age. “Research has shown that there is a need

for early childhood intervention in education for children from birth to six years and there is a significant difference in academic success when children are exposed to enriched and stimulating environments.

Deprived “Most of the mainstream ECD centres in our communities are not equipped or trained to accept children who are different, as a result the majority of our learners are left out in their already deprived world.” The ECD Centre is the first of its kind in the northern suburbs of Cape Town and has been made possible as a result of funding from the Steadman Trust.

Currently the centre has an enrolment of seven visually impaired three to five-yearolds, some of whom have multiple disabilities.

Support A multidisciplinary team headed by Dr John Philander is on board to ensure that each child receives the best possible educational intervention geared towards his specific needs. A parental support programme is also under way to ensure that parents receive the necessary psychological support and skills required to understand and manage their child’s disability. Contact the school on 021 951 7816.

GARY VAN DYK Fire safety is a priority for backyard dwellers in Bellville South. Last week the Fire and Life Safety section of the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services joined forces with the City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre and the 107 Public Emergency Communication Centre to conduct a door-to-door awareness campaign, focusing on backyard dwellers in the area. Local ward councillor Mercia Kleinsmith said that this was a very important exercise in the area because there had been some devastating fires involving these structures in backyards in recent months. “In many cases these serious incidents could have been avoided if the residents were more aware of safety procedures and how to fireproof their dwellings,” she said. “With this exercise we concentrated on the key areas of The Scheme, Greenlands and Stilwaney, areas that by far have the most backyard structures that could be affected. “We distributed pamphlets and engaged with the community about fire safety tips over three days and reached about 3 000 residents.” Desmond Johnson, from the city’s fire department, who co-ordinated the operation felt that it was very important for such campaigns in affected communities. “It is very important for us to do such exercises because with awareness you can save so many lives,” he said. “What we stress is that people living in

these situations be aware of how they can improve the safety of these dwellings. “We show them how important it is to have a bucket of sand and water on hand ready to use if a small fire breaks out. When planning these structures they should also be aware that it is not good to have only one entrance which will trap you if a fire breaks out. “Many children are also burnt every year and we stress that adults should take extra care to keep children safe. “They should also be made aware of what to do when there is a fire, and we encourage parents to even have a safety drill from time to time so that they stay safe. “Another important fact that we want to get across is that people must know which numbers to call when there is a fire: 107 from a landline, and they must programme 021 480 7700 into their cellphones so that help can get to them quicker.” This campaign forms part of the city’s ongoing commitment to creating a Safe and Caring City for all of its residents. The summer season in Cape Town is recognised as a high fire risk period, when many people living in vulnerable communities are affected by devastating fires – often resulting in a loss of their livelihoods, injury or death. During the past three months, the city has focused its attention on high-risk informal settlements, educating communities about fire safety awareness. The focus is now shifting to backyard dwellers, where the city has noted that incidents of fires are on the increase.

Vodacom Cup stars drop in M

ore than 20 rugby players from the Vodacom Cup rugby squad, together with their managers and coaches, visited the orthopaedic ward at Tygerberg Children’s Hospital this week, bringing with them toys, books and Stormers flags. The burly rugby players went from bed to bed, spending time with patients aged from three to 12. The young patients, many of them with broken arms and legs in braces and casts, were clearly excited and recognised some of the players, several of whom have played for the Stormers. “I love the Stormers. I watch them on TV,” said six-year-old Anga Skota from Khayelitsha, while four-year-old Dylan Kyle Pietersen, held court as he told several players how an unhinged door had fallen on his leg. He has to have his leg suspended in a brace for several weeks.

Worthwhile Rising rugby star, Gerbrandt Grobler, said the visit had been as worthwhile for the players as it was for the children. “It’s been a very special visit. It brings you down to earth. I’m inspired to play my absolute best for children like this, and not only for the big stadium crowds.” Several players remarked about the care shown by the nurses and staff at the hospital. The Tygerberg Children’s Hospital works in partnership with Stellenbosch University in offering specialist care to children. About 16 000 babies and children are admitted to the hospital every year. “We really appreciate the visit. It’s a boost for the patients as well as the staff. It shows that people care – and that makes the world of difference,” said hospital manager, Andrea Jacobs. Vodacom Cup team manager, Cassiem Barnes, said the visit was part of the team’s community outreach programme and they looked forward to future visits.

These young girls await starter’s orders for their event at the swimming gala.

TYGERBURGER | RAVENSMEAD & BELHAR Woensdag, 20 Maart 2013

Galas will uncover talent The City of Cape Town’s Sport, Recreation and Amenities Department hosted a community youth swimming gala at the Elsies River Swimming Pool on Saturday. Four teams of 30 children, between the ages of nine and 14, who regularly utilise the Parow Valley, Parow North, Elsies River and Ruyterwacht swimming pools participated in the event. Their training was facilitated by lifeguards and swimming pool fa-

cility officers over the past two weeks. This gala forms part of the Sport, Recreation and Amenities Department’s Learn to Swim programme, which is hosted throughout the summer season each year. Swimming events like this provide an ideal opportunity for federations such as Western Province Aquatics to identify and harness future talent from the youth who participate in these programmes.

Scholarships at alltime high Three organisations have joined hands to improve opportunities for upcoming performing artists. The Arts and Culture Trust (ACT), in partnership with the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation (Dalro) and Nedbank Arts Affinity, announced an increase in the value of their performing arts scholarships. The scholarships programme is aimed at Grade 12 learners and undergraduates younger than 25 who are not considered to be professional performing artists. The programme takes the form of a competition where participants battle it out in front of a panel of judges on their acting, dancing and singing potential. Since the inception of the programme in 2009, six scholarships to the value of more than R600 000 have been awarded.

An additional scholarship will be awarded from 2013 providing a substantial boost to the performing arts scholarships programme, increasing the total value of the scholarships awarded by more than R100 000. Scholarship winners are at liberty to select their preferred performing arts course at any accredited South African tertiary institution, says Adv Nathi Gaisa, managing director of Dalro. The next three scholarship winners will be announced at a final round hosted by UJ Arts and Culture at the University of Johannesburg on 30 September. The Scholarships Programme is currently open for registrations, but only until 31 May. V For more information or to register for participation visit www.act.org.za.

Special car designed for disabled

GARY VAN DYK

Alen Abrahams, from car guard to concerts in a few weeks.

Rocketing from obscurity Can a car guard leap from looking after cars in Long Street to stardom? This Friday that journey could begin for the Singing Car Guard, Alen Abrahams from Kalksteenfontein who has become a bit of a YouTube sensation since his comic renditions of some famous Michael Jackson tunes caught the attention of the world. This Friday he takes to the stage and the organisers of the show, Lifestyle Events International, have dubbed the show “Searching for Alen”. Alen and guest artists James Bhemgee, Karen Kortjé, Lloyd Cele and Melissa Allison will be in action at the auditorium of the His People Centre at N1 City. The Singing Car Guard was discovered in recent months when his YouTube hits Meisie, Ek het Stinkblaaie, Pam, Kerrie en Dissie Ekkie went viral, and 500 000 people watched the videos in the span of only two weeks. With these songs he adds a spicy local flavour to some international pop hits.

Songbird Alicia Keyes’ Girl on Fire is transformed into the deliciously wicked Ek het Stinkblaaie whilst Michael Jackson’s Bad becomes Pam, a song about Cape Town transvestites, and Will you be There gets spiced up as Kerrie, a song about a household too poor to have meat in its curry. The concert organisers have gone all out for Alen who will have the privilege of being backed up by musical director Camillo Lombard’s orchestra. The rest of the evening belongs to some of South Africa’s greatest artists. James Bhemgee, Karen Kortjé, Lloyd Cele and Melissa Allison will wow the crowds with their hits as well as cover versions. The Searching for Alen concert takes place on Friday 22 March in the Main Auditorium of the His People Centre at N1 City, Cape Town. Tickets range from R115 to R165. The latter price applies to seats in the Golden Circle. Tickets are available from Computicket.

The Cape Peninsula University of Technology is on the move with disabled driving. This facility is taking a giant leap towards disability inclusivity and unveiled a prototype of a car adapted for people living with disabilities during the Nicky’s Drive Expo which took place there earlier this month. The car was designed by a group of students from the faculties of Informatics and Design and Engineering. This pioneering project was headed by Professors Mugendi M’Rithaa and Oscar Philander, who have been working closely with CPUT’s Disability Unit and Nicky’s Drive, a non-profit organisation that funds car adaptations for people with disabilities. Mugendi says the university subscribes to the concept of universal design which is about designing for everyone, including people with disabilities. “The CPUT students ha-

Designer has focus on success

GARY VAN DYK A nursing student from Ravensmead is “nursing” a dream of taking the fashion world by storm. Candice Kleinsmith (20) is a student at UWC, but has her sights set on more than medical matters when it comes to fashion. She own her own clothing line called Eye Kandi Wear and she’s also design director at a non-profit organisation called Creative Angels Fashion Benefit where they have big events every year to raise funds for education for underprivileged kids. How did this ambitious young student get started? She confesses that she has always been clued up on fashion and loved sketching, but just as a hobby. “Another motivation was that I’m considered a plus size, and there’s not many stores or designers catering for people like me in a fashionable way,” she said. “Eventually I had some clothes made that I designed and it looked so good that people started asking me about it. “When they also wanted similar clothes made, that’s when I decided to start my clothing line last year.” She says that the brand has been growing ever since and is still growing. “Its not just another clothing line, Eye Kandi is also big on helping other local designers trying to make a name for themselves,” she adds. “We then act as a parent company for these designers and we then help market them.” Candice is also very passionate about her portfolio as design director at Creative Angels Fashion Benefit, founded by Prenessa Nalliah. “We are female full-time students, we have an annual event series, with all event proceeds directed toward an independent education fund for elementary scholars. “Our first event called April Buzz will be taking place on April 26 with a fashion event

Candice is also keen to give back to her community. “There are also many other projects that I want to do such as hosting workshops within our communities. “These will include introduction to the fashion industry, learning the basics of creating simple garments and then have these young inspired designers create these garments and show them off within a fashion show hosted by my brand. “I also want to start doing motivational speeches because I want to motivate our youth to be the best they can be. Coming from disadvantage homes and areas does not

mean they won’t achieve positive objectives in life. “We need to start believing in ourselves and do whatever it takes to get to live our dreams.” While many are talking about her innovations in the industry, she still feels that many people in the corporate world don’t believe in her. “It’s tough when people can’t see your vision and don’t believe in you. “I’ve been turned down by many companies when pitching ideas for sponsorships, probably due to my age, but I won’t give up on my goals and dreams, I use these rejections as a building platform and know that I will succeed.” For more information about the project Candice can be contacted on 076 021 2971, or email ikandiwear@gmail.com.

South Africans face many challenges on a daily basis, so many tend to switch off when they hear about strategies aimed at securing the future for our children and grandchildren. Recycling is one of those issues. Why should we recycle? Imagine 500 rugby fields of rubbish, some already piled about 30 metres high and some increasing in height about 2,5 metres a day. That is roughly the pictures of the City of Cape Town’s landfills at present. Ward 1’s councillor, Sakkie Pretorius, feels particularly passionate about recycling and urges everyone to get on board. He’s been recycling for years and he claims it is “absolutely worth the effort”. The City of Cape Town is moving ever closer to getting residents to recycle their waste. During the interview he often quoted out of the biannual environmental newsletter of the city entitled Enviroworks. It sends out a stark warning, “Waste can turn the planet on which our grandchildren will live into a toxic rubbish dump,” and then defines waste and how to go about disposing of it. Pretorius continues: “I’ve been recycling for four years. It boils down to the fact that I now just put one refuse bag in the bin for collection where it used to be three or four!” According to him the Bellville, Durbanville and Kraaifontein areas are a few steps ahead of Parow, Goodwood and surrounds regarding recycling. This is mainly due to the fact that residents in the latter suburbs have to drive further to recycle (all the way to the modern Kraaifontein Waste Management Facility). Learners say no to rape GARY VAN DYK Learners at Bergsig Primary School in Bonteheuwel are making their voices heard against rape. With recent incidents of abuse and rape against young people in the news, Grade 6 and 7 life orientation teacher Joeleen Bruinders raised the topic and found out that her learners wanted to be part of the fight against rape, as well as violence against women and children. “We first had a class discussion where they eagerly participated,” she says. “They voiced their concerns and could identify with the seriousness of how children get violated. “Many of them could also identify that these things happen in their own communities and that somehow a lot of these incidents leave scars that last a lifetime. “The learners felt that these emotional scars take a long time to heal especially be-

cause it is on the inside where their feelings are not exposed. “A lot of them were also concerned that young children and seniors are being abused and taken advantage of.” Bruinders also pointed out how they felt about their own lives in that they should be able to be free to play and be carefree in their communities. “Too many of them live in constant fear and worry about the criminality that surrounds them, and they should not have to be exposed to such treatment. “Another of their concerns was also how children get labelled and treated after being raped. “They feel that sometimes victims get shunned or mistreated which is not fair as it could happen to anyone without them wanting it to happen. They want this horrible thing to stop as no one deserves to be abused in such a manner. Children should speak out against this wrong.”

Juliette Ohlson by een van haar skilderye, Into the Depth.

Haar kamma-kunsuitstalling is in twee afdelings ingedeel.

Dis getiteld “Into the depth”.

UWC defeats the Impi FNB UWC’s goal of winning this year’s Varsity Shield is back on track after a resounding 36-13 victory away to FNB UKZN Impi in Pietermaritzburg on Monday evening. It was the Cape side’s first away win this season and the triumph lifted UWC from fourth spot to second on the log, putting them in good stead to qualify for the final against log leaders CUT Ixias on 1 April. UWC will look to seal their place in the final when they host fourth-placed FNB UFH in their last game at UWC Sports Stadium on March 25. In what was described as a do or die encounter at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Peter Booysen Sports Park, UWC came out with guns blazing with centre Justin McKay touching down early in the first half. Flyhalf Freddie Muller was on target with

the conversion before scoring a neat dropgoal to make it 10-0 in just 15 minutes. The Impi responded when prop Sizwe Khubeka scored a try with Juandre Small converting to make it 10-8. Peter De Villiers’ side were not done though, and McKay scored his second try and Muller knocked over the extra two points to make it 18-8 going to the break. After half time UWC were more determined with Denzel Willemse going over before Muller made it 26-8. The KwaZulu-Natal side tried to come back with a try by Juandre Small but Muller dashed their hopes when he scored a penalty to make it 28-13. The UWC clash against FNB Fort Hare can be regarded as a final before the final as both sides have a chance to make it to the final.

Youngsters discover Christmas Bands

GARY VAN DYK Local Christmas bands blew up a storm at annual festival of the Annual South African Christmas Bands Board in Paarl on Sunday. Ingrid Vink, secretary of the Royal Crusaders Christmas Band from Bellville South, said that the good attendance and spirit of the event proved that the tradition of the Christmas “choirs” was still very popular in many communities. “It was a fantastic opportunity for friends, family, band supporters, participants, music lovers and acquaintances to meet and celebrate the music,” she said. The following Christmas Band Unions participated: Peninsula and Districts, Western Cape and Disticts, Cape Winelands, and Boland Union. One of the highlights of any Christmas bands competition is the category of the performance and adjudication of the prescribed piece. “The prescribed piece is a selected challenging musical work which is required of all bands to perform at the competition to the best of their ability,” continued Vink. “Many days and long hours of band rehearsals are spent on perfecting the work. This year the prescribed piece was ‘His Name Is Excellent’ by Caleb Simper. “The standard of music performed by all 21 bands coming from the Western Cape and as far as Mossel Bay were extremely high this year. “This year we emerged winners in this

“At the competition you could see how many young people have started taking part, and enjoying it. Meeting young people from other unions and choirs who share their passion for the music, and I’m sure that many lasting friendships will be made through this music. “In our own communities we are always welcoming youth to join us in our actitivies because apart from the music we also teach

them valuable life skills to make them believe in themselves,” she said. “The Royal Crusaders and all other bands in our communities always welcomes new members, young or not so young, of any denomination to join our ranks, to enrich their lives with community work and music,” concluded Vink.

V Skakel Louise Groenewald by 021 591 8391 met enige navrae.

500 faces light up at ‘50’ feast TAMSYN COERECIUS

Absent was Sarah Bow (Grand Master Female).

Everybody keep in shape GARY VAN DYK A local athletics club is keeping the community in shape. The Ravensmead Athletic club is one of Western Province Athletic Associations’ most active clubs. With its roots deeply embedded in the community of Ravensmead they promote a healthy lifestyle through road running and race walking. This has led to four club members, Fundiswa Sandi (seniors), Edwina Fransman, Willem Fransman Jr (Masters) and Lucille Janawaarie (juniors) represented WPA in race walking at a national meeting held in Cape Town last year. At its annual awards evening held recent-

ly, they honoured their most active members with certificates and trophies. Just to show how they care for the Ravensmead community and surrounding areas, they will be hosting a 5,6km fun run in conjunction with the Old Mutual Two Oceans marathon, as part of a 10-leg series. The fun run takes place on Saturday 23 March at 15:00 at Pinedene Primary School in Ravensmead. Entry is free. Young and old, members of the community and all school pupils are welcome to participate. For more information, please contact Fundiswa Sandi (073 526 1120 or 078 659 0574) or just pitch up on race day.

The underprivileged children of Cape Town were in for a treat when Dudley Kearns from Kuils River took it upon himself to spoil them. Dudley, who turned 50 on Sunday decided to make a life-long dream come true when he fed 500 street kids at the Sarepta Community Hall in Kuils River. “I’ve been wanting to do this for so long on my 50th birthday and it feels great to give back,” he says. He had organised that the children be picked up from areas such as Ravensmead, Kalkfontein, Belhar, Eerste River, Kuils River and Westbank. Dudley, who comes from Ravensmead as well said the idea came from humble beginnings as he too grew up very underprivileged. “We were very poor. We were

six children who grew up without any warm water for a very long time.” He reminisces on a childhood memory and says: “We had few plates at home and sometimes fought to eat decently.” This is exactly what he wants to give to these children, a decent meal. Five hundred faces walked in anxiously awaiting a day of pure pleasure. They got to experience a day in a life we accept as the norm. Each of the children received a Sunday meal, which included roast beef, roast chicken, samoosas, pie and salad. They received treats like Simba chips, 100% pure fruit juice and dessert. Dudley says he wants to spoil them with nothing but the best. Councillor Jacob Jacobs says that the day was pure bliss for these children. “It was one of the best 50 year celebrations I’ve seen.”

After supporting some of the biggest local music names, saxophonist, Hiram Koopman, is now striking out on his own. Hiram got his first sax, a gift from his father, when he was just 11 years old. “I had the opportunity to play with my dad and my granddad,” he says proudly. He started playing regularly at church and says: “It’s a good place to grow.” He went on to start playing jazz with different artists, before moving on to writing his own music. Over the years, Hiram has played with everyone from Wikus van der Merwe, to Benjamin Dube and Elvis Blue. He is also a member of Take Note, Emo Adam’s band. “I always wanted to be a musician,” Hiram says, adding that being able to play with different musicians has broadened his musical influences, which he says is reflected in his solo work. Hiram would much rather talk about his community work though, and the causes he is evidently passionate about. He is an ambassador for the Faith Fund, an organisation run by Beyers Truter of Beyerskloof, that deals with educating farm workers about Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and helping those already affected by FAS. “It was started to help these children,” Hiram says, pointing out that there are very few education facility for children with FAS. “It’s something that you can prevent and we just try to help them and put facilities in place,” Hiram says. Another cause close to his heart is Down Syndrome awareness. He wrote the song “Olivia” for a child born into his family with Down Syndrome to help draw attention to

“There will always be an uplifting message in my music.” So says young Tony Joshua, or Tony J as he as known on stage. He will be sharing his gospel message at the Bellville Civic Theatre from 26 to 28 March when he performs his Great I am concert. Tony Richards was raised in Villiersdorp, before moving to Bellville in 2005. He finished his high school career in Cape Town, and went on to join gospel bands like Prophetic Joy and Restoration. Mclaren Circus not to be missed

Hardhitting ad has drive dry message With the Easter weekend waiting in the wings, a campaign to stay sober gets into full swing. South Africa’s leading total beverage company, Brandhouse, launched a hard-hitting social media activism campaign last week, a first for the industry, designed to change behaviour amongst South African youth with regard to drinking and driving. The social-media campaign is the 2013 edition of their award winning media initiative against drinking and driving, Drive Dry. Recently launched, the campaign is expected to gain momentum in social media circles well ahead of the Easter weekend, a high risk period for road accidents.

Drive Dry is one of the initiatives we have in place to promote the responsible use of alcohol,” Though aimed at the youth, the 2013 Drive Dry campaign calls on all South Africans to make a public pledge to drink responsibly, and on Facebook, make the public pledge to “drink and not drive” or “drive and not drink”.

It is jazz season in Cape Town, so we are putting on a range of musical entertainment and the best spots for nights out and match days. At Jackson Hall, the jazz notes go down as well as the delicious fare. Hanover Street nightclub’s DJs spin discs for every taste and the Alibama Sports Bar is the best seat in the house for supporting your team. Mix it up with our restaurants, go-karting, ice-skating, blockbuster movies, ten-pin bowling and arcade gaming. And remember, we will be here all year.

Full steam ahead: Algin Fondling (7) from Bishop Lavis, is

showing the world a clean pair of heels! This young sprinter will once again be representing Western Province in the national championships that will be held in Pretoria later this year. The young sprinter, who attends the Shiloh school in Bellville, will take part in the 60 m and 80 m events. His parents Alvin and Simone are very proud of his achievements. PHOTO: GARY VAN DYK

TYGERBURGER | RAVENSMEAD & BELHAR Woensdag, 20 Maart 2013

Marathon of a lifetime soon John Persents, from Belhar, will be boarding a plane to London later this year, to take part in the major marathon there. As part of an on-going commitment to creating meaningful change in the lives of South Africans, leading financial services provider, Virgin Money, will send Persents and two other lucky runners to London to participate in the 2013 Virgin London Marathon. This charitable initiative, undertaken in conjunction with Runner’s World magazine, will give these talented athletes, hand picked from underprivileged communities, the chance to demonstrate their skills on one of the world’s biggest stages. Over and above being one of the most popular fixtures on the global marathon calendar, The Virgin London Marathon, which takes place on 21 April 2013, is also the world’s largest charity event. Thousands of participants from around the globe are encouraged to run in support of a chosen charity, with this forming an obligatory condition of entry. It was this charitable spirit that inspired Virgin Money’s decision to create lifechanging opportunities for local runners. “The change that can come about as a result of an event like this is momentous, and we really wanted to play our part in extending this goodwill on a local level,” explains Heidie Aitken, brand manager of Virgin Money. “Rather than running a lucky draw style competition as we did in 2011, we decided to embrace the essence of the event this year, and offer opportunities to those who might never have been able to participate otherwise.” This will be the first major international marathon for Khubulani Zondo, John Persents and Meshack Ndhlovu, who were select-

John Persents, who hails from Belhar in Cape Town, looks to use this opportunity to inspire fellow athletes in his own community. “Being part of the Virgin Money team will help me to show my fellow runners that anything is achievable with hard work and dedication,” says Persents, who coaches wouldbe runners in his community, including his two sons. “The London Marathon is every runner’s dream, and it’s important for those of us in disadvantaged communities to know that dreams can come true.”

BAANFIETSRY: STRAWWE STRYD VERWAG

WP wil wéér kroon dra

D

Ajax CT set to take the Met Cup THOMAS CAROLUS The 2013 Metropolitan Premier Cup, which takes place from 27 March to 1 April, at Erica Park in Belhar, with Ajax Cape Town once again the favourites to march off with the crown. The competition has grown from humble beginnings into a global event. Ajax CT are desperate to shed a reputation for falling short when it matters most, having failed to justify their favourites tag in the last four editions. The last time they won it was in 2008 when they beat Bloemfontein Celtic 6-0 in the final. Just what effect this pressure to win will have on the Urban Warriors this year remains to be seen, but there must be a fear within their camp that could be stifling. This is a side that in the past has not performed well when under pressure and the added attention at this tournament might feed more into their insecurities and selfdoubt. The Ajax Cape Town coach is anxious for his team get off to a flying start against Belhar Spurs, with powerful Harmony Academy, and Atlantis Leeds to follow. In a way, despite their poor form in the lead up to the competition, Belhar Spurs probably present the greatest threat to the Urban Warriors.

Duisende gaan die halfmarathon, 10 km-wingerdroete of 5 km-pretstap aandurf. FOTO: LEON STEENKAMP
