World record busking attempt A Guinness World Record attempt for the largest busk at multiple venues across the world will take place on Wednesday 11 June. Two groups of students from the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre in Parow will join local street musicians, or buskers, at the V&A Waterfront, one of only three official venues in South Africa and 19 worldwide, from 19:00 to 19:05, to break the record and raise funds for music education. In order to break the current world record, 25 buskers must perform together for a minimum of five minutes in multiple locations (more than 10 venues world-wide) at the same time. The two groups of busking music students will perform at Pierhead and the Flagpole terrace at the Waterfront. They will perform half an hour of background music leading up to the Guinness World Record attempt at 19:00, when they will perform the South African National Anthem. Police give info on crime The Panorama, Welgelegen, Plattekloof (PWP) neighbourhood watch is hosting two events in June in order to engage with the public on matters relating to crime. On 17 June an open community meeting will be held with the Parow police at the NG Church in La Provence road, Welgelegen. The meeting starts at 19:00. The discussion will be about crime in general in Panorama, Welgelegen, Plattekloof 1-4 and Parow. Crime and safety awareness, crime trends and the fostering of a closer police community partnership will also be on the agenda. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served. The PWP neighbourhood watch, the Parow police and the Parow drug squad are hosting a breakfast at Encore Restaurant, Northlink College in Panorama on 19 June at 09:00 where they will talk about drugs. The guest speaker will be Charl Viljoen, community safety liaison officer, strategic and operational support for the City of Cape Town. “This will be interesting because Viljoen will be sharing his personal experience when he discovered that a family member was using heroin,” says Lynette Norman, spokesperon for the PWP neighbourhood watch. “He trains neighbourhood watch members, he is highly qualified and street wise and uses his knowledge to help the community stamp out substance abuse, drug lords and and crime of all forms,” Norman says.
