College of Applied Arts Newsletter From the Dean’s Desk

Dates to Remember

Dear Graduate Students, The College of Applied Arts is very proud of the faculty and graduate programs. It takes a team effort to promote growth and achievement. Faculty, staff and graduate students have made incredible strides in their academic outcomes. The graduate programs continue to improve as the scholarly productivity of the faculty and external funding increases. We continue to promote access to higher education opportunities. In the fall of 2009, we will again offer 50 $1,000 one time, Dean’s Graduate Student Scholarships (DGSS) to new graduate students enrolled in six hours. In addition, we are implementing a CAA Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF) to support students and assist faculty with the ongoing research projects in various departments. With respect to growth, the graduate enrollment headcount has increased significantly resulting in a 29.3% increase in Graduate Student enrollment from 168 in Fall 2007 to 243 in Fall 2008. A graduate program in Human Nutrition was initiated in the fall and the Doctoral program in CJ is currently under review. We encourage undergraduates to strive for academic excellence so that they can solicit opportunities in graduate school. Our departments continue to foster a scholarly atmosphere in their respective programs. We provide a faculty friendly atmosphere where students get to know their professors and engage in academic dialogue. This atmosphere builds tomorrows academic leaders.
