Search for CEO over after council appoints Márton After six months, the District Council of Mallala has finally appointed a new chief executive officer. Following the resignation of former CEO, Charles Mansueto, in August last year, Katrina Márton has been appointed and will take up the position next month. DCM mayor Duncan Kennington wel-

comed Ms Márton’s appointment, saying she is currently a general manager at Walkerville and has a proven record of constructive networking and successful leadership in South Australia and interstate. Ms Márton has already participated in several induction meetings and will officially begin work for DCM in early May.

Virginia land boom SPECIAL REPORT: Bec O’Brien A $225 million housing development has been announced for Virginia, with the expansion set to almost triple the town’s population when completed. The project will be the first major development on land rezoned as part of a State government plan to create thousands of new homes in the region over the next 20 to 30 years and could see up to 1800 more people living in the area in years to come. To be known as The Green at Virginia Grove, 700 new homes will be built. Member for Taylor, Leesa Vlahos, said community response to the expansion had been positive. “This is great news for local families looking to establish new homes in Virginia. I recently doorknocked Virginia Grove and met many families who are very positive about current developments in the area,” she said. “New residents contribute to local businesses and help keep our community vibrant. “It is important that we balance residential growth of the township whilst recognising the significance that the horticultural industry plays within the area.” Lanser Communities managing director, Jason Green, said the development planned to offer linear reserves, water features, public art and family friendly spaces featuring playgrounds, excellent recreational facilities, barbecues, shelters and fitness trails. n Continued page 2

$2m for Australia’s largest glasshouse A $2 million regional development grant will assist the multi-million dollar upgrade of the D’VineRipe facility in Two Wells, creating jobs and significantly increasing the site’s production capacity.

Regional Development Minister, Geoff Brock said once completed, the new state-of-the-art glasshouse for Como Glasshouse, trading as D’VineRipe, would increase the company’s tomato production by 25 per cent.

“This project will improve the company’s capability to produce high-quality premium tomatoes at a mass level, opening up greater market opportunities through greater supply and quality,” Mr Brock said. “The expansion will provide

significant employment opportunities in the region, creating at least 80 full time equivalent jobs in addition to engaging a large number of local contractors during the construction phase and providing opportunities for a seasonal workforce.

“The State Government has been providing case management services to Como Glasshouse since 2007 and this partnership has resulted in continued investment in the region. n Continued page 5.
