Our mission is to deliver value-adding products and services to the agricultural and related industries and to the communities in which we operate.
TWK RADIUS
What is the one thing that no one can take away from you? That one, very precious thing that only you can keep safe? Memories!
Some of my fondest memories as a child were driving on the back of my dad’s old Toyota bakkie, which he inherited from my grandfather, to view his crop fields. My siblings and I would play for hours in the peanut and maize crops that my dad planted so lovingly. We didn’t care if the year’s harvest was good or bad, we didn’t know any better. But climbing into the threshing machine full of maize seemed like the best idea at the time.
What memories are we creating for our generation to come? What groundwork are we laying for them? We often look at our children, thinking that whatever they are busy with, playing outside, in the veld or crop field, seems so insignificant. I can assure you, it is precisely then when the seeds get planted deep in their hearts — creating and nurturing a love of farming.
This year, TWK Agri turns 80. What an achievement! Eighty years of highs and lows, 80 years of hard work. Some days may have brought tears, but more often than not they were days of joy. However, I can tell you this: TWK will always be one of the fondest memories of my life as an adult. I love the hardships we face together as a team, the camaraderie in which we carry each other, and the spirit in which we celebrate together.
I want to encourage you to keep on creating memories. They are the only thing you can carry with you in this lifetime. Be sure to plant the heart seed deep inside, leaving a strong, comprehensive base for our next generation.

he 243 000-hectare uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park was declared a world heritage site in December 2000. This international recognition was due to the area’s unique richness in biological diversity and its endemic and endangered species, superlative natural beauty
and remarkable ‘art galleries in the rock’ that protect tens of thousands of Khoisan rock paintings. In the middle of this area lies the beautiful town of Winterton.
The Winterton community is tightly knit, and as one enters the town on the picturesque, tree-lined Springfield Road, one finds TWK Trade nestled on the left-hand side.

A bit of history of Winterton and the surrounding area •
The Natal Drakensberg is one of South Africa’s most outstanding attractions and draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually to its scenic beauty, crisp mountain air and crystal clear waters.
Linda Freese, Christoph Erasmus, Bryon De Nysschen.
•
The first settlement in the area was known as Springfield, hence the main street of Winterton is called Springfield Road. In 1905 Winterton was laid out on three Voortrekker farms called Nooitgedacht, Kerkplaats and Deeldrift that were bought by the Natal government. The town was named in honour of the Minister of Agriculture in Natal at the time, Mr HD Winter (1893–1927).
•
The settlement was laid out in plots of ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ blocks on either side of the irrigation furrow. The government sold these plots at nominal prices to soldiers in recognition of their service during th Anglo-Boer War.
Sakhile Hadebe, Moses Hadebe, Ayanda Mbokazi.
•
The village contains a blacksmith’s shop, the Young Store, police station, post office and hotel. The hotel was always called ‘The Bridge’ and was owned by Fred Strong. Today, the blacksmith’s shop is a display featuring tools and equipment used in the past by the town’s blacksmith. Water for the hotel was pumped by a donkey, which at the end of every day received ‘a pint’ as reward.
•
The first train dated from 1908. In 1980 the beautiful train station burnt down (there were rumors of ‘cooking the books’ and burning evidence) and a new building was erected.

Wees deursigtig teenoor aandeelhouers, veral in moeilike tye."
In jou 23 jaar by TWK, watter tyd was vir jou die uitdagendste?
Wat was jou rol as direkteur by TWK?
As 'n maatskappy goeie koöperatiewe bestuur toepas."

South Africa shows that 10,5 million tons of maize are consumed by South Africans, with this number set to rise to 11 million tons. This is a clear indication that maize remains a very popular and much-needed source of nutrients for South Africans and forms a crucial part of the diet of many citizens. With these numbers kept in mind, South Africa remains both an importer and an exporter of grain.
Every year there is new technology available to producers when it comes to grain production: new tractors and harvesters, new products to be used fighting pests, and even crops that are more resistant to drought. There are even newer varieties available when it comes to different seeds producing more yield per plant.
When it comes to different varieties of seed, one not only has the option to decide on the type of grower to plant (from fast growers all the way through to longer growers), but also which variety would be best suited to the soil to deliver the most profitable yield.
Grain is harvested during late autumn and in the winter months. While they are harvesting, the marketing of the grain is quite a daunting prospect for many producers. Luckily there are people in the industry who offer their assistance, and in the process help producers to get the best offer at the point of sale.
Unfortunately there are many producers who have to pay off debt that has been incurred, either from grain production or other debts with respect to their properties. It is a reality that producers do not always have the option to hold back their grain in order to wait for better prices.
On the other hand, there are producers who have been turning poor-quality, marginal land around by planting feed instead of grain. This may not be an option for many large-scale commercial producers, but it could be a solution for producers looking for an alternative for their land when grain production does not work due to the soil not being compatible or not being able to hold sufficient water. This mainly occurs when the soil is very shallow, when the soil quality is poor, or when there are problems that show up with pH-level testing. Planting feed can provide producers with an alternative means of income.
During the 1970s and 1980s, low-quality soil was turned into pasture (both with and without subsidies) so that producers could use poor grain-producing soil. In recent years, however, many of these pastures have been ploughed and are once more being planted at great financial risk, because the potential of the soil has not increased.
When planning to plant crops, whether during summer or winter, it is always a good idea to consult specialists in the area in order to work with the correct information and products. Whether it is with regard to pesticides or fertiliser, or even having to decide on the correct cultivar that is to be used, getting more information about products will ensure that the correct choice is made – a choice that can lead to a fruitful outcome.
Despite all the negative factors that are in play, whether it be drought or other economic factors, producers are still producing sufficient quantities of grain for the market. That in itself shows tenacity and faith.

rowing and providing food are two of the primary objectives of the agricultural industry. According to National Geographic, most of the world’s food resources derive from agriculture. It would therefore be interesting to review what the end product has become after all the labour and hard work have paid off, and where
the influence for that food came from.
South African gastronomy is a unique fusion of many different cultural influences, with primarily eight other countries of note involved. These fusions have created a palette of diverse cuisine filled with textures, tastes and aromas. The first chapter of South African history starts with the Bushmen, also known as the San, a group of people from southern Africa (more specifically from the Kalahari Desert). Traditionally, they were nomadic hunter-gatherers, travelling from place to place, foraging in small groups. They are also considered to be the oldest inhabitants of the region.
According to Merriam-Webster, the first-known use of the term bushman hails from 1785. The San ate anything that was available, both animal and vegetable. This ranged from antelope to porcupine, wild hare, zebra, giraffe, fish, insects, tortoise, eggs and wild honey. As water was a scarce commodity when they were on the move, the Bushmen would collect moisture by scraping and squeezing roots.
Over the years, South African foods became more diverse with the arrival of colonists and immigrants from, among other places, Portugal, Germany, India, Britain, Holland, Indonesia and France. The arrival of South Asian slaves from Malaysia should also be taken into account, as they brought various spices with them.
One of the most significant influences was that of the Dutch people, who established a colony at the Cape in the 1600s. They were soon followed by the French Huguenots and the Germans. Together they became the Afrikaner nation of today. This combination of influences led to what is known as the Afrikaner style of cooking.
During the Great Trek, farmers in search of grazing for livestock were not able to take a lot of provisions with them. The use of dried food (such as rusks and biltong) and salt and spices became more frequent in order to preserve food. They had to hunt for food, shooting and roasting meat on open fires in the open air. This was also the origin of the well-known South African braaivleis. Some people ate their meat with griddle cakes or bread, and those who came into contact with African tribes were introduced to maize porridge or mieliepap. Pap en sheba is still a popular accompaniment to a braai even today. As the trekkers could not take many cooking pots on the journey, the one-pot meal (potjiekos) was born out of necessity, as were rusks, and of course biltong.

s we bid farewell to the last remnants of summer, producers are hard at work during autumn preparing for the upcoming winter months. Autumn is generally a very busy season for livestock producers, who have to ensure everything is in place before winter arrives.
It is also during this period that calves are weaned, and young bulls and heifers go through certain selection phases in order to form part of the next breeding generation. As the season progresses into winter, bull selection also takes place.
Autumn can be unpredictable, with temperatures mimicking the heat of summer one day and the cold of winter the very next day. During cold spurts, products like Molatek’s Molasses Meal can be provided to animals as an additional supplement until the cold front has passed over. This product can even be given as is, by throwing it on the available grass as a quick energy source for the animals during the cold. It is always a good idea to speak to feed specialists in specific areas – they can assist you in finding the right supplements and feed that are needed.
Many producers market their spring and summer weaners during the autumn months, and the majority of these weaners are then bought by large-scale feedlots. In many instances, buyers for these feedlots and agents sourcing for them have certain criteria they are looking for. The two most important of these are quality and health. When purchases are made directly from producers, good-quality, healthy animals open the door to future business.
Healthy herds produce healthy weaners, and in the process the producer has a quality weaner market and thus earn more per kilogram produced per hectare.
Producers should always maintain a good working relationship with veterinarians in their area to ensure that they follow the right management programme for their herd. Weaners and other animals in the herd should

become a problem for livestock.
For wean shock, a significant problem to all producers, Johan Mouton, a feed specialist from RCL Foods (Molatek), gives the following advice: ‘Several days before calves are weaned, Master 20 can be given to the whole herd in order to encourage calves to learn to eat. After weaning, the Master 20 is then given only to the calves.'

Let us start with agriculture’s direct contribution to South Africa’s GDP: it was a little over 2% at the last count. This figure is sometimes used for political reasons to downgrade the importance of agriculture in the South African economy.

ragically, this is very simplistic thinking and does not show the full picture: agriculture does not operate in a vacuum. It buys from and provides raw materials for manufacturing and purchases a host of services. But that is not all: related sectors are agribusiness, farming operations, input manufacturers, suppliers and co-ops; food processors, distributors and
traders, to name a few. Research shows that agriculture and its related sectors actually contribute more than 15% of South Africa’s GDP when all related and second-stage industries are taken into account.
Agriculture plays an important role in the process of economic development and can contribute significantly to household food security. The National Development Plan sets out a broad vision of eliminating poverty and reducing inequality by 2030.
If we have to define agricultural credit, we would possibly define it as a type of financing used to provide funding for agricultural producers. This may be in the form of letters of credit, loans or banker's acceptance documents. This is generally used to provide investment from outside resources to the farming sector.
The answer to the question of why a farmer requires credit is simple: credit is needed in every type of business and agriculture is no exception. There are numerous reasons for needing credit: the capacity of farmers to save and invest is very low. Agricultural productivity is low due to the low use of inputs. Production suffers from weather risks. Farmers therefore need credit to increase productivity and efficiency in agriculture. This need increases over the years with the rise in the use of fertilisers, mechanisation and increasing prices. Agricultural labour is often under-employed.
The need for agricultural credit also becomes more important when a farmer moves from traditional agriculture to modern agriculture.
The role players in credit and financial assistance are not always clearly defined, but the six major sources of credit for farmers are banks (56%), agricultural cooperatives and agribusinesses (9%), the Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa (the Land Bank) (30%), private creditors (3%), and other creditors and financial institutions (2%).
Access to credit for smallholder farmers remains a challenge in most developing countries. This is evidenced by the trend and pattern of bank credit granted to smallholder farmers in South Africa, both before and after the attainment of a democratic government. Analyses show that bank credit granted to smallholder farmers is, and continues to be, a small fraction of the total credit to the private sector and constitutes a very small proportion of GDP. The smallholder farmer sector is observed to face the same constraints with respect to credit as SMEs, a category of enterprises to which smallholder farmers also belong. In view of the importance of agriculture in general and

Vandag is Saterdag. “Haai, Basjan!” roep ’n vrolike seunstem. “Is jy daar bo?” “Natuurlik is hy daar bo, slimjan,” brom ’n meisiestem. Basjan glimlag.

Hy begin weer dink. Hy dink so hard dat dit voel of daar enige oomblik rook by sy ore gaan begin uitborrel. Strepies steur hom min aan die planmakery. Hy het weer die akkedissie raakgesien. Met platgetrekte ore begin hy dit bekruip. Neville vryf oor sy ken. Dit lyk of hy baie hard dink. “Mmm …” brom hy. “Mmm …” “Ek wed jou omtrent elke

Sy dink so lank dat Basjan later gaap. Almal dink kliphard. Gorrr! Dit is Basjan se maag wat so grom! Dit is Basjan se pa. “Nou toe, waarvoor is julle lus?”

“Ek is seker baie kinders gaan springmielies verkoop.” Neville kreun. Basjan sug. “Nee, Neville,” sê hy. “Nandi is reg. Springmielies is ’n bietjie vervelig.” “Behalwe as jy ’n muishond is. “Aauwww, my maag pyn!” kla Neville.

“Basjan, jou plan was briljant!” Basjan glimlag.

10 Totally a-MAIZE-ing Facts! Maize (corn) is part of the grass family. Different varieties of maize include sweet corn, popcorn, flour corn, flint corn and dent corn. Flint corn and dent corn have a hard outer shell and are typically used as animal feed, to make processed food or to manufacture chemicals. On average, a cob of corn has 800 kernels, arranged in 16 rows. The kernels on a cob of corn are always arranged in an even number of rows. People first planted maize for food in Mexico nearly 10 000 years ago. Apart from being used as food for humans, maize is also an important source of food for livestock. It is also used to produce certain chemicals, and it can be turned into fuel. We typically think of maize as yellow, but it is also found in a variety of other colour variants, including white, orange, blue, purple, pink and even black. Maize is used to produce corn syrup, a popular sweetener used to manufacture many kinds of food, such as soft drinks and candy. South Africa typically produces more than 10 million tonnes of maize each year. Most popcorn kernels pop when they reach a temperature of 180 degrees Celsius.

Jy kon hulle maar gedurig bymekaar kry, vir haar daarbuite by sy werk, vir hom hierbinne by hare; en waar hulle loop, loop hulle hand aanmekaar. Twee ewigdurende vryers.
In daardie dae was daar geen dokter binne bereik nie.
“Laat staan my vader,” sê hy. “Hy is nie dood nie. Julle wil hom lewend begrawe.”
sterwe.
Eendag was Gideon opsy.
– sê nou daardie jong man ...
Vergewe my.
“Dag, my hartjie. Soen vir my, Bettie.”

P
reparing and planning your meals ensure that you stick to your meal plans and follow an overall healthy diet. When you’ve got your meals prepared, you know exactly what you are eating for the week, and all the hard work, planning and
thinking are done. Try to prepare lunches and dinners for the working week and then put them in the fridge or the freezer. All that is left to do is heat them.
Preparing your meals eliminates one of the most significant barriers to achieving your goals and to getting so much more out of your day. It will teach you about nutrition and cooking! Personally, if I know there is a healthy, nutritious meal waiting for me, I find it so much easier to avoid mindless snacking between meals. It also makes portion control so simple – it is all premeasured to give you exactly what your body needs!
Following a nutrition plan and preparing meals will help to minimise binging. You can work your ‘cheat meals’ into your weekly plan, whenever you want or need one (which can be one or two cheat meals a week, depending on how far you are from your goals). You will find that you will have so much more willpower to resist last-minute indulgences because you will know that you are working your way towards a delicious meal that you have carefully selected. You will also enjoy these kinds of meals more than ever before. You will not feel guilty for indulging now and then, because you will know that your nutrition and exercise habits are healthy, well balanced and setting you up for success.
HOW TO PREPARE YOUR MEALS •
Step 1: Create A Shopping List
Once you know what meals you will be eating for the week, create a shopping list that includes the ingredients you will need for the whole week. Many people opt to keep their meals quite repetitive and straightforward to make this process a little easier. You can also set up a weekly shopping list in advance, so you can get your shopping and meal preparation done to prepare for a successful week!
•
Step 2: Cook Your Meals
The key here is to have plenty of containers! The best thing about meal preparation is the automatic portion control, so make sure you have a good supply of containers that are an appropriate size and sealable for easy access to your meals. Separate your meals into the correct portion

Buy enough food for only a single treat (or treat meal). The nutritional law of possession states that if you buy it, you will eat it. Yes, you may be able to avoid temptation for a day or two, but eventually you won’t, and you will eat what you were saving for your next treat. Buying smaller portions means you can eat only a limited amount and are therefore less likely to overeat and derail your progress inadvertently. When you are full, either dispose of the leftovers or, if you must keep them, seal them in an opaque container out of sight.

he number of cyclists on the road is increasing as cyclists prepare for coming races. Unfortunately, in South Africa, crashes involving cyclists are a common occurrence. Consequently, it is essential that drivers and cyclists should take preventative steps to avoid any collisions.
The managing director of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says drivers tend to pay cyclists less regard, making them more vulnerable on the road. ‘Speed is a major factor in this problem. Collisions at speeds that exceed 45 km per hour give cyclists a less than 50% chance of survival. Even if a cyclist is hit at a slower speed, they face severe injuries.' Always look out for cyclists and for cars. You are creating a very dangerous situation if you pay attention only to other cars on the road.
‘There is an unfortunate belief that cyclists have less right to the road and should keep out of a motorist’s way. Part of keeping cyclists safe is to change attitudes towards them. Provided they follow the rules that apply to them, they are just as entitled to be on the road as you,’ says Herbert.
Spend some time brushing up on the laws that govern cyclists to learn what their responsibilities are in relation to vehicles. ‘In South Africa bicycles are considered legal vehicles and are bound by the same laws, and courtesy, as motor vehicles. If you know what rules govern cyclists, you will better understand how to interact with them in tricky situations such as at roundabouts.
‘Cyclists themselves should make an effort to understand the laws that apply to them. MasterDrive also advises everyone to know how drivers and cyclists should react when they encounter one another. If the right response does not occur, the cyclist can be ready to avoid a collision, regardless of the actions of the driver, or refuse to react on the basis of who has “right of way”. The ultimate goal should be to avoid any collision,’ advises Herbert.
Herbert provides some additional tips for drivers and cyclists: •
When making a right turn, remember there could be a cyclist next to you who needs to go straight. Double check that there are no cyclists before making the turn.
•
Do not underestimate the speed of a cyclist in the opposite lane coming towards you and risk quickly turning in front of them. A cyclist can move at up to 30 km per hour.
•
Give cyclists the internationally accepted 1,5 m of space when passing, and even more during wet weather. This is not only to avoid collisions, but to give them room should they fall or encounter their own obstacle.
•
Look for cyclists before opening your door and exiting your car.
•
Do not park or stop in cycle lanes – it puts cyclists in even more danger when they move around your vehicle.
•
Cyclists must never cycle two abreast when on the roads.

sustainable through both the good times and the bad. This requires areas in South Africa that can therefore accommodate 1100 km2 of safe habitat, where ground-hornbills are protected by those around them. It is by no means a quick-fix solution, but is entirely possible if we all work together to make our landscapes safe again.
Custodian programme All ground-hornbills that live outside our largest protected areas can only be protected by those who share the land with them. As ground-hornbills have such strict territorial boundaries, the group you see near your home is YOUR group. There is national and provincial legislation that protects them, but it actually needs communities, landowners, farmers and managers to ensure the land they are responsible for is safe for ground-hornbills. This is an incredible opportunity for South Africans to take ownership of the conservation of an endangered, iconic and charismatic bird and become custodians. The Mabula Ground-Hornbill Project and their partners and collaborators, who make up the national task team for the species, will support and guide you to ensure you can do the best possible job.
This work can only continue its success with the invaluable support of ordinary citizens. We all have a responsibility to support the ongoing conservation of our wild places and the species in them, but the conservation of species on farmlands and unprotected areas is just as vital. ď Ž

Could become bigger than medical marijuana industry.
T
he market for medicinal mushrooms is set for a magical future, with growth in the next five to seven years expected to match or even surpass the medical marijuana industry. Craig Fourie, a mushroom maven with over 24 years’ experience, says the growth will largely be driven by Ganoderma lucidum, aka
Reishi, and by Psilocybin-containing mushrooms.
Ganoderma lucidum, known as Lingzhi in China and Reishi in Japan, is an ancient species with the oldest known medicinal uses, and these include the support of cardiovascular health, the fighting of cancer cells and bacterial infections, viral protection, improved energy levels and brain function, the reduction of cholesterol and respiratory problems, the relief of allergies, and more. A quick search of ‘Ganoderma lucidum benefits’ on Google Scholar, the go-to place for peer-reviewed studies, present 11 500 articles.
Fourie says: “The greatest benefit of the Reishi mushroom is in its ability to improve immune function. A pre-clinical trial done on MG-LZ8, our Reishi extract, expressed a 43% increase in immune function over 48 hours, which is extraordinary. Our extract was sent to the Medical University in Louisville, Kentucky, and was analysed by the worlds’ leading expert in Glucan technologies – Dr. Vaclav Vetvicka, Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Director of Research, and Vice-Chair for Research.
“Among the many incredible findings, one that drew my immediate attention, was that the extract was found to be completely non-toxic in vitro and in vivo (in laboratory tests and in living systems). The implications of this opens a world of opportunity for this incredibly powerful extract.”
Fourie agrees, and adds that, after experiencing the effects of MG-LZ8, many of his customers become more aware of the food they eat and the medications they take. “It’s imperative that you care for your gut biome, and that if you really need to take medication, such as antibiotics, that you take a probiotic to rebuild your delicate gut flora.”
Psychedelic mushrooms have the potential to assist with depression treatment.
The medicinal Psilocybin mushrooms, aka ‘magic mushrooms’; in contrast to Reishi, are illegal in South Africa and many countries around the world, as they contain controlled substances such as psilocybin and psilocin. Based on research and trials already done by the likes of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, these same substances have shown potential to assist with the treatment of disorders like depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder, cluster headaches etc., as well as in the treatment of addictions, like alcohol and smoking.

Benefits extend to livestock industry and beyond
Mushroom Guru is looking at using MG-LZ8 in the livestock industry to create immune-boosting products. Fourie has already had success with relieving colic in horses, mastitis in cows (bacterial udder infection), tumours in dogs and even COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) in cats. Mushroom Guru is looking to pioneer the development and use of medicinal mushroom extracts in this industry through collaborative ventures.
The South African market for medicinal mushrooms is still in its infancy. And this, says Schalk van Rooyen – a natural scientist and technical consultant for Laeveld Agrochem in the field of botanical extractions, plant feeding and the alternative use of plants – contributes to a stigma towards mushrooms and the healing benefits they offer. “We see a similar stigma towards the medicinal use of herbs, although there is already a growing acceptance.”

TWK Agri Classic
T

Bestanddele: •
4 k gerolde hawermout
•
1 ½ k rou neute en/of sade
•
1 t fyn seesout
•
½ t gemaalde kaneel
•
½ k klapperolie of olyfolie
•
½ k heuning of stroop
•
1 t vanielje-ekstrak
•
2/3 k gedroogte, opgekapte vrugte (bessies/perskes of sjokoladeknopies of klappervlokkies – indien verlang)

A
s we face a new year, we need to be very careful that we are not distracted. Proverbs 29:18 states in the KJV, ‘Where there is
no vision the people perish’. Once we are distracted, we tend to lose the vision, and then we end up going down cul-de-sacs, we lose heart and we start going in a downward spiral. I was once told by a man of God that we need to concentrate on the majors in our lives, and not the minors. There is a Latin quote that reads as follows: Aquila non captat muscas, which literally
means eagles do not chase insects. We leave the house birds to catch the insects and the eagles to fly up in the high places – their prey is not insects, but a much larger animal.
God is saying to you and me at the beginning of this year that we need to concentrate on the vision that He has given to us and not to busy ourselves with things that we can do nothing about. In fact, the New King James Version of Proverbs 29:18 says, ‘Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint …’. In other words, if you have lost your vision, then you have no more reason to get up in the morning. The issues that we are facing in our beloved country at this time, namely drought, and economic and political unrest, are of major consequence. However, these are things about which the average farmer can do nothing. Therefore, we need to stay the course, we need to concentrate on the vision that the good Lord has given to each of us individually.
Remember that every drought ends with rain, and every economic and political situation will balance itself out. Apart from concerted prayer, there is nothing that you and I, as ordinary people, can really do about it.
The pendulum will swing back again – it always does – but in the meantime, we need to keep the vision, we need to follow through, and we need to make sure that things on the farm are running as smoothly as possible. Keep the farm looking pristine, in spite of the situation, dip those cattle regularly, mend those fences, weed those fields, repair those roads and, even more importantly, love your family, respect your fellow man, and then the Lord Jesus Christ will do His part. Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) has become one of my favourite verses in the Bible. It says the following, ‘And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart’. If there is one thing that agriculture has taught me, that is patience. The other important thing is to be consistent in whatever you put your hand to. Remember that Rome was not built in a day. Some of the greatest stockmen I have ever met are, without exception, patient and caring people. We must nurture and care for what God has put into our hands.
The Good Shepherd goes out and finds that one lost sheep. Some of us do not even know how many sheep we have, because we are so stressed out, worried, angry, about our circumstances, that we have lost our vision. Some crop farmers do not walk through their fields any longer – they have lost their vision, and so the bush pigs and weeds are having a field day.
May God bless you. I pray that 2020 will be a great year for you and your loved ones.
