Momentum and movement defined the 2024-25 school year at TVT!

This Annual Report on Philanthropy captures the stories and accomplishments made possible by your generous commitment and support. We continue to flourish as a Jewish community day school in Orange County, and the faculty, staff, and students of TVT are immensely grateful for your contributions.

Following our successful re-accreditation, we completed a thoughtful, future-focused self-study that led to our Strategic Vision. This inspiring document, rooted in our mission and vision, provides a clear framework for sustainable growth and progress.

As we begin the 2025-26 school year, we will focus on purposeful engagement with students, families, alumni, faculty, staff, and our broader community. Our Strategic Vision will thoughtfully guide how we invest our resources to move forward together with these guiding principles:

• We believe meaningful learning happens through experiences that ignite curiosity, creativity, and courage. Students will journey from imagination to creation as they prototype inventions, design custom parts, and bring ideas to life. This nurtures future engineers, architects, and innovators with the potential to make a difference.

• We believe the TK-12 years are vital for teaching ethical leadership and civic engagement. Students will strengthen their foundation in civil discourse, ethical leadership, and inquiry so they can lead their communities by embodying Jewish values.

• We believe families treasure TVT because of the rich relationships students build with adults who inspire, support, and challenge them. We will cultivate excellence across classrooms, athletic fields, studios, science labs, and in college preparation so students are well-prepared for their bright futures.

I am filled with pride watching our dedicated faculty and staff help students discover their voices and purpose. Reflecting our Jewish values, they teach young minds to listen actively, think critically, and communicate with empathy and confidence.

I am grateful to outgoing chair Mayer Cherem for his support and our Board of Trustees for its thoughtful leadership, to our faculty and staff for their unwavering dedication to our mission, and to our wonderful community who made this another exceptional year of philanthropy for the school.

With gratitude,

Mayer Cherem | Chair, Board of Trustees | Eitan '24, Gilah ‘27, Noah ‘32

We are honored and grateful to have had your support for an extraordinary year in philanthropy!

With significant contributions from our parents, grandparents, and the extended community of friends, we reached an all-time high in fundraising for the third consecutive year. This support fuels our highest levels of commitment to student learning, teaching excellence, and financial assistance. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, please accept my gratitude and appreciation to each of you for your generosity.

TVT's Board is comprised of dedicated individuals who are invested in the future vision and sustainability of the school, under the leadership of Head of School Jill Quigley. As part of our continuing stewardship of the school, I want to recognize three departing trustees for their generous time and service on the Board: Lori Chozen, Jeff Kopstein, and Sue Littman who have, individually and collectively, been profoundly impactful in their service to TVT. Together they represent many decades of contribution to the school, and we stand richer for their dedication and commitment.

With departures comes new energy and vision and in 2025-26 we will welcome Bruce Gorchow, Alison Nightingale, and Kimberly Snyder to the Board.

Bruce is formerly the president of PPM America Capital Partners with decades of leadership in global investment strategy and governance. Bruce and his wife, Jodi Rosen, are the parents of five children, including Blake ’26.

Returning trustee and past Board Chair, Alison is an attorney at General Atlantic and brings expertise in legal strategy and regulatory compliance. She and her husband, Charlie, are the proud parents of Nathan ’28 and Ben ’30.

An entrepreneur and community leader, Kimberly’s background spans psychology, youth development, small business ownership, and philanthropic leadership in Orange County. Kimberly and her husband, Josh, are the parents of Emma ’34 and Tessa ’36.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as the Chair of this dynamic and dedicated Board of Trustees. Taking the helm this year is Brian Levy, who has served in many leadership capacities on the Board since 2022. Brian and his wife Ruthie are the proud parents of Malina ’30, Leila ’32, and Sammy ’36, and we look forward to their many contributions in the years to come!

My heartfelt thanks to you for making TVT your philanthropic priority.

Transforming Math Learning

Over the past three years, TVT has not only transformed the way we teach math—it has reshaped what’s possible for young learners in the Lower School. Our implementation of Beast Classroom (formerly Art of Problem Solving Beast Academy, an advanced math curriculum) has been nothing short of transformative. What began as a strategic investment in deep mathematical thinking has become a cornerstone of our academic identity and a model for how intentional innovation can unlock student potential.

From the start, TVT recognized that true implementation would take time, care, and professional development. Our first year focused on building a strong foundation in Grades 2 and 3, with a heavy investment in training for both lead teachers and assistants. In our second year, we expanded into Grades 1 through 4, and in 2025-26, we will complete the rollout in Grade 5. This also marks a new level of sophistication in our approach—we are now offering multiple ability-based math groups per grade level, designed to meet students exactly where they are and stretch them further than ever before. For students pacing ahead of grade level, we’ve launched a formal plan to ensure they continue to be challenged and inspired.

The outcomes have been extraordinary. Testing data shows significant growth in problem-solving and mathematical reasoning, with many students performing well above grade level expectations. They’re thinking critically, collaborating joyfully, and developing a genuine love for math—thanks in large part to the appealing Beast Classroom materials and our teachers’ skillful guidance.

Today, TVT is coming to be known as a math destination. Families are seeking out our program not just because of our curriculum, but because of the care, depth, and thoughtfulness we bring to each child’s learning journey. With strategic professional development and the hiring of a Math Coordinator, TVT is redefining what’s possible in elementary math education, and we’re just getting started!

YOUR GENEROSITY FUELS OUR POSSIBILITIES.

Every gift—big or small—empowers our students, elevates our programs, and strengthens our mission to provide a Jewish education in Orange County. Your gifts bridge the gap between tuition and the full TVT experience, ensuring that innovation, excellence, and opportunity thrive on our campus.

The TVT Fund is our most important annual priority as it provides resources needed for the academic year that are not covered by tuition alone. This year, tuition funded 80% of TVT's operating budget, while donations and other revenue sources covered the rest.

Thank you for making TVT a priority in your philanthropy!

A Legacy of Transformational Philanthropy

TVT continues to profoundly benefit from the visionary and transformational contributions of donors who are providing sustained support for our Financial Assistance Program and Jewish Life & Learning.

Isidore C. and Penny W. Myers Foundation

To honor and recognize our most generous philanthropic supporters, The Gelman Society is named in honor of our founder Irving “Papa” Gelman (z”l), whose dream of a thriving Jewish school in Orange County still guides our vision for a sustainable future.

The Gelman Society acknowledges the generosity of donors at $1,800 or above reflecting TVT's long-held tradition of philanthropy. We are deeply grateful for these leadership contributions that impact the life of every TVT student and faculty member of today, and for the immeasurable impact of this support on the TVT of tomorrow.

Teaching That Builds Humanity

This year, TVT’s Middle School English classrooms became hubs of humanity, dialogue, and depth as we piloted a new approach called R.E.A.L.® Discussion (Relate, Excerpt, Ask, and Listen). REAL is a framework that helps students practice meaningful conversation infused with clarity and compassion. As one student shared, “I’m listening now to understand, not just to respond.”

In a world increasingly shaped by technology and automation, one truth is becoming increasingly clear: human skills are not obsolete, they are essential. Skills such as speaking, listening, empathy, and critical thinking aren’t soft, they’re durable—and they’re teachable. These attributes are essential in school, indispensable in life, and foundational for students who seek to use their voices and values to make a better world.

In 2025-26, all Middle Schoolers will participate in R.E.A.L.® Discussions to learn how to approach literary text and to connect, question, listen, and grow. This initiative speaks directly to our mission as a school of inquiry and innovation, and also, of character. At the intersection of those two ideals, where curiosity meets compassion, and creativity meets conscience, our students begin to grow as ethical leaders.

This is the kind of impact your generosity makes possible. We are investing in faculty professional development to enhance learning, but also cultivate compassion, curiosity, and courage: the very traits that define a TVT graduate and enable them to go out and make a better world.

A Senior Shabbaton to Remember

Of the many meaningful events that mark a 12th grader's final year at TVT, the Senior Shabbaton stands out as a Jewish highlight and a powerful example of philanthropic support resulting in lifelong impact.

Encouraged to assume a pivotal ritual or programmatic role, our seniors spend their Jewish Studies class time preparing for this experience. From offering Torah insights and celebrating Havdalah to leading discussions on “Sameakh B'khelko - Getting to Enough,” seniors teach each other how to fill 25 hours of Shabbat with meaningful memories.

The Jewish Life and Learning team bolsters programming by interspersing study topics like Shabbat as a Moment of Enough-ness, Using Jewish Wisdom to Navigate my Next Crossroad, Slices of Shabbat to Deepen my College Experience, and The Freeing 39 “Do nots” of Shabbat.

In a fast-paced world filled with distractions, our seniors make a united commitment to discover the simple beauty of real-time, face-to-face connections without their devices. Last year, we saw the influence of our program when they decided, a week later, to gather in small cell-phone free Shabbat friendship circles! The Senior Shabbaton continues to bring moments of communal experimentation with the rituals and restrictions that make Shabbat a day of otherness.

Making the case for Shabbat has always been one of the goals of the TVT experience, and thanks to robust philanthropic support, all barriers for Shabbaton participation have been removed. The result has been overwhelming attendance by our 12th graders in a much-anticipated joyous senior class tradition!

Our Thanks and Appreciation to the Parent Association!

From holiday gifts to Faculty Staff Appreciation, from Spices in the Sukkah to TVT Cares, the Parent Association is at the forefront of hosting events and activities that strengthen our mission as well as our community. We are so grateful for our amazing PA Council leadership, committee chairs and members, Room Parents, and dedicated volunteers who make the TVT school community a warm, welcoming, and inclusive experience for all!

Emily Rackow | PA President

From start to finish, it was a year filled with memorable moments, including our first-ever Family Book Fair Night, the launch of the Booster Club (Go Lions!), creative Dads of TVT events, and inspiring Nosh and Nurture sessions featuring parent education opportunities from near and far, including Pardes in Israel. We also proudly introduced our newly enhanced TVT Cares Day of Service, led by the incredible Lori Chozen.

These 'Tikkun Olam' (repairing the world) days beautifully reflected the spirit of 'Klal Yisrael' (community) in action. Every member of the Parent Association plays a vital role in creating the connected community we all treasure at TVT. To our officers, committee chairs, Room Parents, and every dedicated volunteer — we couldn’t do it without you.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

ENGAGING WITH OUR ALUMNI

With characteristic foresight, in 2023-24 the Board of Trustees created an Alumni Task Force to spearhead alumni engagement for TVT. Under the leadership of Trustee Alyse Baron (Hali '21, Ryan '24, Shira '27), the Task Force has laid the groundwork for the establishment of an alumni board to foster a lifelong connection between TVT and its alumni.

Alyse Baron | Trustee, Alumni Task Force Chair

This year, we proudly launched an outstanding Alumni Board, bringing together a dynamic group of TVT graduates dedicated to strengthening the connection between alumni and our current school community. With their leadership and the support of the Alumni Task Force, we hosted several successful alumni events that drew over 100 alumni—an incredible testament to the strength and spirit of our community. The Alumni Board is already making meaningful impact by fostering engagement, supporting current students, and celebrating the lasting legacy of our Jewish day school.

As the parent of two TVT graduates and a current Upper School student, I believe it is so very important to maintain our bond to TVT for a lifetime and ensure that future generations carry forward the community, values, and sense of belonging that helped shape my children into who they are today.

My deepest thanks and appreciation to Julie Kramer, Megan Lin, Sue Littman, Izzi Neufeld, Mandy Maister, and Alison Nightingale for contributing their time, insights, and resources as dedicated TVT alumni parents.

I had the privilege of spending 13 years at TVT, where I received not only an exceptional education but also a strong foundation in the core values of kindness, respect, truth, justice, community, and repairing the world.

These principles were taught at TVT and consistently exemplified by faculty, staff, and peers alike. While many schools touted their values and ethics, TVT actively lived them, making a meaningful impact on its students, faculty, and the broader Orange County Jewish community.

I am both honored and grateful to have the opportunity to serve as president of the inaugural Alumni Board. The chance to apply the lessons, values, and experiences I gained at TVT to benefit the alumni community is one I wholeheartedly embrace.

Alumni associations play a crucial role in preserving and strengthening the lifelong bond between graduates and their alma mater. As members of the Alumni Board, our goal is to cultivate a sustained sense of community, pride, and connection beyond graduation. We expect to achieve this through thoughtfully planned social events, professional networking opportunities, and meaningful engagement for alumni to remain connected to each other and to the school that helped shape us.

I want every graduate to experience the same sense of belonging and shared identity that comes from being part of the TVT community.

TVT connected me to the world.

I firmly believe this global awareness stems from the embodiment of TVT values and my immersion experience in Peru. It laid the groundwork for service, helping those in need, and understanding that our innate sense of compassion can make a difference in the lives of others.

My life after TVT took me to UC Davis where I majored in International Relations with a focus on Middle Eastern Studies, followed by a Masters in Public Policy and Dispute Resolution at Tel Aviv University. An internship at the Permanent Mission of Israel to the UN allowed me to pursue my interests in human rights and strengthened my resolve to serve others in need.

Keeping public interest and public service at the forefront, I have dedicated my time to work extensively on projects related to guardianship, where the most vulnerable of youths and minors need help and support for empowerment and agency. After completing my JD from Loyola Law School, I am headed to private practice at a law firm in Orange County—and my cherished TVT values will continue to light my way.

A TVT lifer, I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2021 majoring in Neurobiology and Public Health. I then worked at UCSF's Memory and Aging Center where I supported a study on mindfulness and the well-being of caregivers of individuals living with dementia.

My motivation has always been building community and nurturing kindness, values that were instilled in me during my time at TVT. This led me to my work in care navigation at the Shanti Project, a small community-based nonprofit in San Francisco, where I supported the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ older adults and adults with disabilities experiencing social isolation. I resonated with the organization's commitment to embracing a non-judgmental model of peer support to address the challenges faced by communities most impacted by historic and structural inequities. Now as the lead Care Navigator at Remo Health, a digital health start-up, I am working with an interdisciplinary team to bring compassionate, equity-focused support to individuals living with dementia and their loved ones via an accessible and innovative telehealth-based care model.

Grounded in the values that sprouted during my time at TVT, it is through these experiences I have learned what it means to truly be a compassionate community member— meeting others where they are by leading with empathy and care.

I am incredibly grateful that I was able to attend TVT from 1st grade until I graduated high school. I first joined TVT because the other children’s parents in my kindergarten class at a public school would not allow their children to play with me because I was not Christian. TVT was necessary as a home base for Jewish children in Orange County then, and in the wake and aftermath of October 7th, its vital role as a valuable and integral part of the Jewish community is even more important now.

The last few years have only renewed and strengthened my appreciation for my years at TVT, which not only gave me a strong Jewish education but also a great pride in and knowledge of my connection with Israel. The incredible faculty there also gave me a well-rounded academic foundation that set me on a successful journey to becoming a physician.

Today, I am a practicing pediatric pulmonologist and the associate director of the Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis Center at UCLA.

We proudly serve children from a large geographic region with a diverse patient population, often those from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds. At TVT, we learned about Tikkun Olam, repairing the world, and giving back to those less fortunate.

Class of 2023

My four years at TVT shaped my earliest understanding of what it means to live with intention in an environment where purpose and integrity could coexist with ambition.

Today, I’m balancing two very different but equally formative experiences. One is focused on advancing innovation in the biotechnology industry, where I am thinking critically about how to translate complex science into real-world impact. The other is a company I co-founded to reimagine access to private markets and challenge conventional structures of opportunity.

Both have stretched me to be thoughtful and curious in the face of ambiguity, and I have come to see that the rigor of good work is not just technical, but moral. What I’ve realized is that the most meaningful work rarely announces itself. It emerges when values and action quietly align, when one is willing to listen, to remain open, and to stay grounded even while reaching far. I am still learning how to follow that alignment, but I know where it started.

In the long arc of things, the ideas planted early on at TVT continue to shape not just what I do, but the kind of person I hope to become.

Mission

We are an inclusive Jewish school of inquiry and innovation where academics are important and character is paramount.

Vision

Cultivate compassion, curiosity, and courage to make a better world.

Values

As remarkable as the academics are at TVT, we understand the importance of educating the whole child. Character is paramount and equally important are the values that are being taught, the sense of pride that is instilled and the community culture that is nurtured. Integrated into every aspect of the TVT experience are core values:

Truth (Emet) | Respect (Kavod) | Kindness (Chesed) Repair the World (Tikkun Olam) | Justice (Tzedek) Community (Klal Yisrael)
