THE FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE OF ECONOMICS STUDENTS IRIS LONCAR ZRINKA GOLEMAC

ABSTRACT In modern times the financial knowledge is a key determinant not only for personal improvement, but also for involvement into global economic environment. This force radically alter today’s business approaches in an uncertain environment, because it represents a key prerequisite for determining market trends and making successful business decisions. Since educational programmes on faculties of economics ought to provide for acquisition of this specific knowledge, the question is to which extent the financial education within these institutions has been adapted to real needs. Relevant research carried out at the national level has indicated a relatively low level of financial literacy of economics students. In this paper the research is focused on students of economics and business economics from the University of Dubrovnik. A questionnaire, containing 8 questions, was made in an effort to determine the level of financial knowledge of the students, which was later correlated with their level of education. The research results serve to confirm the hypothesis: the higher level of economic education implies the higher financial knowledge of students. KEY WORDS: financial knowledge, level of education, economics students.
