Environmental testing simulates the climatic conditions and mechanical stress that products are exposed to during their lifetime. Sometimes environmental testing will expose weaknesses in a product’s design or performance that could occur in service, particularly at extreme levels. Manufacturers are constantly striving to demonstrate that their products are safe, reliable and compliant in every operational scenario. We have been providing environmental testing services since 1953 covering all industries. However complex your product, and whatever your industry sector, you can have confidence that your testing needs come within the scope of our highly trained and experienced staff. Our leading UKAS accredited testing laboratory in Fareham, Hampshire is the largest in the UK and combines both climatic and mechanical testing facilities under one roof. In addition to this we have a global network of accredited testing laboratories across the world, helping you wherever your needs may be. Under our UKAS accreditation we are able to add specifications at short notice through our approved flexible schedule process. The extensive scope that we offer means that you will only have to use one test laboratory to complete your product testing.

Climatic Testing

Our climatic chambers can simulate either a single environmental condition such as temperature or multiple conditions simultaneously such as altitude or humidity, which are continuously monitored by independent computer-controlled data collection systems. The chambers can simulate extremes of temperature, altitude, humidity, changes in temperature, solar heating and corrosive atmospheres. Our Capabilities: 11 combined temperature and humidity chambers Temperature range from -65°C to +200°C Humidity range from 5% to saturation Largest chamber 6m x 5m x 4m 5 high / low pressure chambers 3 chambers capable of rapid temperature change greater than 5°C / minute and 1.5m x 1.5m x 1.5m size Salt fog chamber Ingress protection (IP) - water immersion and high pressure hot water Icing Highly Accelerated Life Testing and Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HALT HASS)

Mechanical Testing

Our mechanical test laboratories are among the most extensive in Europe, and include vibration systems with interchangeable slip tables capable of delivering up to 160kN of thrust. We can perform vibration testing at temperatures from -60°C to +100°C on products up to 4 tonnes. The vibration level and frequency range we can achieve will depend on many factors including size, weight, the response of the product and how it is attached to the shaker. If you need a special fixture to adapt your product to fit the shaker, our renowned Fixture Design Service incorporates the design and manufacture of bespoke fixtures for products of any size and complexity. We have designed many hundreds of fixtures over the years and have a stock of popular plates, angles, frames and cubes, which we can sometimes modify to provide a more cost effective solution. Our Capabilities: Sinusoidal, Random, Sine on random, Swept sine on random, Gunfire, Shaker induced shock, including SRS (Shock Response Spectrum) 2 large shakers with 160kN thrust - each has floor mounted interchangeable slip tables with largest 1.5m x 1.5m and 4 tonnes external load support 1 medium shaker 90kN thrust - combo system with 1.2m x 1.2m slip table 1 small shaker 36kN thrust - combo system with 0.85m x 0.75m slip table Hydraulic shaker - 60kN thrust - 100mm displacement, 2-200Hz with 2.2 x 1.2m table, 1300kg payload capacity 2 free fall shock machines - with largest 2.2m x 1.2m table, 1300kg payload capacity


TÜV SÜD Product Service provides technical consultancy and testing services for product packaging. This service evaluates the performance of packaging, and the level of protection it provides to products in transit or storage. In addition to being a UKAS accredited laboratory, we are accredited by the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) to advise and demonstrate that packaging complies with the latest ISTA specifications. As part of our testing programmes, we can determine a product’s fragility so that an appropriate level of packaging protection can be used. In addition to reducing the risk of damage to goods in transit, we can also advise on whether cost savings can be made by removing unnecessary packaging.
