CITY OF TUCSON

PARKS AND RECREATION RECREATION SPRING 2016

ACTIVITY GUIDE

Tucson Parks and Recreation FROM THE DIRECTOR I am very proud to announce that on September 14, 2015, the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation was recognized for excellence in the field of parks and recreation management by, once again, achieving agency accreditation. The department first became nationally accredited from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) in October 2010. As a requirement of agency accreditation, we are required to go through a review process every five years.

Tucson Parks and Recreation is 1 of 145 accredited parks and recreation agencies in the United States, and 1 of 7 in Arizona! National accreditation requires agencies to respond to 151 standards representing elements of effective and efficient park and recreation operations and our department passed all 151 of those standards. This is a great accomplishment for our staff and a true testament to our commitment to the community we serve. Please join me in congratulating our dedicated staff throughout our organization as witnessed every day of the year at all of our parks, facilities, and programs! – Fred Gray

CITY OF TUCSON

PARKS AND RECREATION SYSTEM MASTER PLAN This fall, the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department kicked off a series of Stakeholder Focus Group Meetings, Open Houses and events to gather input on the future of Tucson’s parks. We held nine stakeholder focus group meetings and six community-wide open houses, gathering hundreds of comments. A randomized community-wide survey is also being conducted to help supplement our in-person and email outreach. The presentation from the first round of open houses is posted on the project website. Your comments are being compiled and combined with community data to help inform the City’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan Needs Assessment. Stay tuned for its release in the new year. Our community outreach efforts will continue early in 2016, with six additional community-wide open houses. At these meetings we will be presenting our initial assessment and analysis results. In the meantime, check out the project website at www.tucsonaz.gov/parks/masterplan and send any additional thoughts by email to parksmasterplan@tucsonaz.gov.
