CEO’S MESSAGE Dear Colleagues Last w eek, Minister Khaw Boon Wan made a call to the hospitals in Singapore to take a leaf from the Korean hospitals and embark on the ' Less' challenge. I shared w ith him on TTSH' s progress in medical informatics and assured him that w e are making excellent progress t ow ards scrip-less, film-less, chart-less and paper-less. The media recently follow ed up on Minist er' s call and show cased TTSH' s efforts in using technology to drive efficiency and patient care. This move w ill raise aw areness on important health issues such as hygiene habits, prevention, early detection and their roles in effective treatment. Our part nership w it h Yahoo also enhances our public outreach efforts and goes past the traditional print media channels. Dr Quan Wai Leong, Acting Director, Endoscopy Centre / Consultant, Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, as Director, Endoscopy Centre & Adjunct Asst Prof Jane Tan, Consultant, Department of General Surgery, as Deputy Director, Endoscopy Centre. Dr Quan Wai Leong, w it h the support of Adjunct Asst Prof Jane Tan, w ill oversee and manage the Endoscopy Centre as w ell as chart the expansion and development of the Centre. Dr Yap Wee See, Senior Consultant, as Deputy Head, Department of Respiratory & Critical Care Medicine (RCCM). As Deputy Head, Dr Yap Wee See w ill assist the Head, Dept of RCCM in t he management of t he department . Dr Aaron Ang, Consultant, as Deputy Head, Department of Psychological Medicine. Dr Aaron Ang w ill assist the Head of Psychological Medicine to manage t he department. Dr Nicholas Chew as Associate Designated Institutional Official (DIO)/TTSH. Wit h this new appointment , Dr Nicholas Chew has relinquished his deputy headship position t o f ocus his attention on t he hospital' s medical education as Associate DIO. Play It Safe I' m proud to share that TTSH is the first hospital in Singapore t o receive the bizSAFE Partner Certificate by Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Council. bizSAFE is an initiative by the WSH Council t o enhance safety and health standards among business partners. COMPLIMENTS We continue to receive kind words and tokens of thanks from our patients and visitors. Here are some of them. I w ould like to t hank Dr Jeevendra, Consultant, ENT and Dr Richard Sim from General Surgery for going out on a limb to keep me in t he loop w hile my father, Mr Ong Sw ee Seng, w as being w orked up f or his submandicular adenocarinoma and dysplastic colorectal polyps. I w as overseas at the time of diagnosis. Much appreciated from a professional point of view , as a fellow doctor and a patient' s son. - Dr Gene Ong I w as hospitalised from the 18th t o 27t h October in Ward 12D.I am very satisfied w ith the care and treatment I received. Special thanks to all t he nurses and staff from the w ard including t he ITE nursing students. They have not only displayed professionalism, but also care and passion t o every patient. Being in C class, I received excellent treatment from Dr Charis, Dr Yu Chun Sing, Dr Pillay and team. Lastly, I w ould like to express my gratitude to Khoo Ern Huey, as she w as actively attending to all my needs. I w ill proudly say that Singapore hospitals are the best in t he w orld! - Mr U Swe Tin I w ould like to offer my compliments to Mr Yong Kim Ping, (Executive, Operating Theatre Services), for his invaluable help. Mr Yong radiates all the enthusiasm and passion in his w ork. I w as at the service counter of the Day Surgery Centre on 9/11 requesting t he customer service officer to arrange for an earlier appointment for my surgery. While passing by and on hearing t hat I had gastric problems and could not endure w ithout f ood for t he w hole day, Mr Yong immediately asked me for my particulars and called t he nursing officer-in-charge. I w as very touched by his efficient service.His positive w ork attitude certainly brings a smile to patients like me. Such acts are deeply appreciated. - Ms Shereen Lee I had knee surgery few years ago in another hospital and it w as a traumatic experience. The knee problem, unfort unately, did not go aw ay. I t hen consulted Dr Sathappan. He w as very patient and explained my medical condition clearly and also informed me of t he options t hat w ere available. He allayed my fear for furt her treatment. I w ish to express my sincere thanks to Mr Sathappan for his kindness and concern. I w ould also like to thank his support staff Ms Lily w ho is very courteous and helpful w henever I am there for consultations at Clinic B1A. I am confidently looking forw ard to the next stage of my treatment and comf orted t hat I am in good hands. - Mr Arun
