Medical Assistant via the Medical Assistant (MA) Bridge Program

The Medical Assistant (MA) Bridge Program prepares those who have: a) completed the Medical Office Specialist training program; b) are an experienced medical administrative assistant currently working in the field; or c) have finished a medical assistant program but were never certified for the clinical and lab skills necessary to become a registered medical assistant. The program includes eight weeks of classroom training followed by a four-week externship. The curriculum concentrates on the clinical and lab skills involved in becoming a medical assistant including asepsis and sterilization, phlebotomy and lab collection, injection administration, OSHA and HIPAA compliance, medication and pharmacology preparation and electrocardiogram (ECG) administration. In the four-week externship, students complete 160 hours of clinical skills off campus in a local medical office working Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Program Length: Program can be completed in approximately three months. Program Cost: Approximately $1,499 not including textbooks, uniforms, supplies and testing fees Prerequisites: Must have five years of experience as a medical office administrative assistant or successfully completed the TTC Medical Office Specialist Program; and submit a clear and current SLED background report to enroll. Requirements: At time of registration, submit a current S.C. SLED background report and a copy of the Medical Office Specialist certificate of completion or provide documentation of five years of experience working as a medical administrative assistant. Four weeks prior to beginning the externship, the student must provide a S.C. SLED background report, clear drug screen, as well as proof of Hepatitis B, two-step PPD and influenza vaccination. Certification: Students completing the Medical Assistant (MA) Bridge Program are eligible to sit for the Registered Medical Assistant Exam given by the American Medical Technologists Association (AMT). TTC’s program is approved by AMT.
