The matrix made from recycled plastic bottles has strong floating ability, and the foam material encourages microbe's growth
The island can grow aquatic and terrestrial plants, in order to mimic the nature and provide habitat for animals.
the crowded roots system absorb nutrients and pollutants from the water while providing habitat for microbes. Both are the keys of cleaning the water.

the hollow center core is a reflective tube that guides light into the ground floor pond collected sunlight will leak through small holes, to light up the steps
sunlight will be collected from the roof. small amount will be used to light up the stair case, while the main use is to grow plants on ground level.

aquatic plants on BioHaven and underwater will both benefited by the sunlight device. They will mimic the natural environment for microbes, then fish will be fed from them.
panels are installed on the ceiling in hexagonal matrix. each panel is coated with mirror-like material, and together they form a curve suface that can bounce off the sunlight supplied from the tube.
mushrooms have very crowded root system, which can take over the whole volume of soil. It provides surfaces for microbes to grow, in order to clean the soil.
small amount of light is leaked out from the tube to highlight the steps, while not affected the mushroom growth.
a thin layer of turf on mesh will cover the entrance, in order to maintain the humidity level in mushroom spiral.
tubular skylight will guide the sunlight to the ground floor, and sunlight will be consumed by BioHaven plants and submerged plants in water.

the structure is built of bamboo, supplied by on-site bamboo forest. main support pieces will go deep in the soil to stable the building. pieces are tied tightly together with rope. The flexibility of bamboo is the key to make the wide span structure.
the floor surface is built on a compilation of plastic bottles. the strong floating ability of plastic bottles allow island to withstand occupant load, without intercepting the water flow and affecting the aquatic life.
one of the applications of BioHaven is putting planting beds on both side of the boardwalks and form a continuous floating wetland.
a layer of sprayed concrete will be applied on the outside surface, to stable the bamboo structure and provide a smooth surface for green roof. people can walk freely on the roof, that is mimicking natural landscape
since the roof is always exposed to sunlight, tubular skylight is used to bring in indirect sunlight.
Biohavens are incorporated in the interior space for improving air quality and indoor farming. sunlight can go through the peekhole on the floating wetlands, and benefit the plants and lives underwater.
after going through layers of biofilm, the water quality is greatly improved. plants and animals will be benefited by the purified water , as it diffuses into the natural wetlands, then into Lake Ontario.
the versatile BioHavens are held together to form a wide spread floating wetland. the rich root system will form a very thick biofilm, where microbes will live on. it is very effecient in romoving fine particles and metal in water. as a result, water will be purified as it pass through.
the water entered from Don River is full of pollutants, which doesnt provide a friendly condition for habitat. It hugly reduces biodiversity of local lives. The wetlands is going to slow down the water flow, so that water can be purified before exiting to Lake Ontario
