Hometown PROFILES NORTHSIDE COMMUNITY BANK
orthSide Community Bank is pleased to be a member of the Gurnee business community and the Village of Gurnee Chamber of Commerce. For the past 19 years we have provided The Very Best in Banking to Gurnee and the surrounding communities. As we look to our 20th anniversary in 2017 it is hard to imagine how much the landscape, both locally and globally has changed. We have seen property values increase, decrease and increase once again. We have seen the U.S. dollar be strong, weak and strong once again against other major world currencies. We have seen the birth of smartphones doing the amount of work those IBM super computer mainframes did from the 1970s. Banking has evolved a great deal in 20 years. While the technology has changed, what hasn’t changed is the need for a locally-owned and locally-managed community bank that continues to provide personalized attention to its customer’s needs. When NorthSide Community Bank opened in July 1997, our goal was simple: to provide an exceptional customer platform with quality service and products. We will continually strive to provide value to our customers rather than promote cookie-cutter products offered by our “big bank” competitors. We are proud of the fact that we have succeeded in our goals. NorthSide Community Bank has remained locally owned and independent at a time when it seemed banks were merging and changing names on a seemingly weekly basis.
During the nearly two decades since NorthSide Community Bank first opened its doors, management has remained constant and firmly entrenched in the community. Managers of the bank participate in Junior Achievement, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, and, of course, the Village of Gurnee Chamber of Commerce. Chief Operating Officer Nick Phillips has been with the community bank from the beginning. During the school year, Nick can be seen in local classrooms volunteering his time to Junior Achievement bringing real-world experiences to students and opening their eyes to their potential. Throughout his time with the bank, Nick has personally worked with many customers, some of which have been with the bank for nearly 20 years as well. Nick’s office to the left of the bank’s entrance is often populated with customers wanting to say hello and get caught up on the local economy and discuss thoughts about the future. In recent years, NorthSide Community Bank has introduced robust internet banking and bill payment products and very recently a mobile banking app. The bank is currently working on improvements to its debit card products, incorporating the new EMV chip technology as well as a card valet product that puts the cardholder in the driver’s seat and allows them to control when and where the debit card can be used.
