and organizations in the Arlington Heights area with the main focus of increasing health awareness and improvement. This eclectic group of health-minded practitioners, businesses and individuals has been collaborating since early 2011 to offer members of the Arlington Heights community a unique range of opportunities to improve their health and invest in their future wellness through the use of facilities and services that are readily available in Arlington Heights.

n an effort to improve the health and lifestyle of the Arlington Heights community, the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce’s Health & Wellness Initiative, now in its sixth year, plans to once again offer a 10- to 12-week “health awakening” this fall to educate members of the public about nutrition, fitness and lifestyle changes they can make that will improve their health and the quality of their life. The first such series was held in the fall of 2015. “Our aim is to allow the many health practitioners in the chamber to introduce participants to new ideas that will likely result in them sleeping better, eating better, losing weight and looking at life differently. It isn’t just about losing weight. We want to open their eyes to new techniques and ideas that they wouldn’t have otherwise considered and which they can implement for the benefit of the rest of their lives,” said Lindy Camardella, a licensed acupuncturist and Chinese medicine practitioner and the Initiative’s chairman. “Our group is very altruistic. They all volunteer their time during these hour-long Thursday evening sessions because they truly want the health of Arlington Heights, in general, to improve. Through this ‘health awakening’ program, we hope to reach people who we wouldn’t normally reach through our various health practices,” Camardella said. During the 2015 Health Awakening 40 residents, age 18 and over, were enrolled. The group included both men and women of all ages but most were between the ages of 50 and 70.
