SECOND BAPTIST CHURCH
September 20, 2015
WHAT IS STEPHEN MINISTRY? Stephen Ministry is a one-to-one lay caring ministry. It equips and empowers lay caregivers—called Stephen Ministers—to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting at Second Baptist and in our community.
WHO ARE STEPHEN MINISTERS?
FAITH COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER
Next weekend in services, we'll focus on celebrating 2BC's Stephen Ministry and Martha Reppert joining our Stephen Ministry team. Here's an overview of what Stephen Ministry is, and how Stephen Ministers might be able to serve you:
Stephen Ministers are congregation members trained by Stephen Leaders to offer high-quality, one-to-one Christian care to people going through tough times. A Stephen Minister usually provides care to one person at a time, meeting with that person once a week for about an hour.
WHO CAN RECEIVE CARE? Anyone struggling through a difficult time in life—experiencing grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, or some other life crisis. People enter a confidential care relationship with a Minister of the same gender.
To Receive care or express interest in becoming a Stephen Minister, contact Mike Lassiter at 816-781-2824 x307 or firstname.lastname@example.org or Carol Kingery at 816-916-8407 or email@example.com belong |

This year, 2BC will take part in a World Communion Service with our neighbor churches in the downtown area. The purpose of a the service is to renew a commitment to unity in the larger body of Christ and to enjoy fellowship and camraderie with brothers and sisters in Christ beyond our 2BC family. As part of our 11:00 worship service that day, we will walk together to the space in front of the Justice Center downtown and celebrate Communion by intinction together with our friends from churches including St. Luke AME Church, First Presbyterian Church, Liberty Christian Church and more.
2BC Helping Bring Clean Water to Kids in Africa
Water changes the lives of children. They have better health, improved nutrition, and can go to school instead of spending the day fetching water. Through World Vision’s comprehensive and sustainable water projects across Africa, $50 will provide clean water for one person for a lifetime. And 2BC has joined that effort with people running the KC Half/Full Marathon as part of Team World Vision. Would you consider donatingat least $50 and changing the life of a child? To donate to any of the runners or to the 2BC team as a whole, visit teamworldvision.org/team/secondbaptist.
Fall Semester Meal Providers Needed
Each Sunday, we like to provide a light breakfast and "snack supper" for the students at church, and we'd like to invite anyone in our church family to help! We have two spots to fill for each meal each week, so everyone will have a partner to team up with for each meal. As we are preparing meals, we do need to be conscious of food allergies. We avoid using nuts of any kind in our food preparation and we try to provide some alternative options (gluten-free, vegetarian, etc.) when possible. To sign up to provide Sunday breakfast or Sunday night snack supper, contact Charles Smith at email@example.com or 781-2824.
