Second, the types of exercises I mentioned are what are referred to as compound exercises because they work multiple muscle groups at the same time. Because of this they cause your body to exert significantly more effort than just doing sit ups. It has the effect on your body of raising your metabolism so that you are, again, burning more calories throughout the day and losing fat at a greater rate.
