nefrowmsThe Races Fashion stakes high at Roxby Outback Cup rom the outside, you’d never know that the annual Roxby Downs Outback Cup was South Australia’s most remote race meeting.
While it may boast a stereotypical red desert track and the rustic charm to match, in the fashion stakes, Roxby mixes it with the best of them – and this year’s event was no exception. More than 2000 people made the trek to Roxby on August 6 to be a part of the action both off and on the course, with all eyes on the fashions at the track as The Races SA continued its search for South Australia’s most stylish racegoer. Judges certainly had their work cut out for them, with a record number of entrants participating in Fashions on The Field for the opportunity to become the Roxby representative for Fashion at The Races – a year-long, state wide style search featuring SA racing’s richest ever fashion prize pool.
After a tough elimination process, former Roxby local Katica Cockshell, 23, took out the title and will now compete in Adelaide next year for the major title at SA Derby Day. So exactly what were judges looking for on the day? With such an array of great looking outfits, Katica impressed the judges with her use of accessories and appreciation of current fashion trends. The classic black and white with a hint of hot pink also struck a chord. Also not going unnoticed on the day was Ten News reporter and Fashion at The Races Ambassador Kate Freebairn. Kate made a special appearance at the event looking ever so stylish in an elegant Liza Emanuele number, and giving hopeful fashionistas some tips and tricks as to how to look the part at The Races.
