Getting ready for Gold Cup
The Races Quarterly |
With construction well under way for the new track at Murray Bridge, the Gold Cup is one of only a few remaining chances to celebrate at the existing course. See page 18 for more details and join us at the Gold Cup to discover country racing at its best.
Cosi’s Top Tips for visiting Murray Bridge the State, but the Murray Bridge Gold Cup on October 12 is his homecoming event. “I was born and bred in Murray Bridge. I went to St Joesph’s Primary until I was five when we moved to Kadina,” he said.
Besides the obvious perks, there’s another reason why Cosi puts up his hand to attend country race meetings. “It means so much to the towns and for tourism in those areas,” he said.
“My old man was the local copper and Mum worked at the chicken abattoir! What a catch hey?
“I am passionate about horse racing in SA and I want to see crowd numbers continue to rise, especially in the country.
“Mum and Dad won’t confirm it one hundred percent but I have it on good authority that I was in fact conceived at the race track, so the Gold Cup is a yearly pilgrimage of sorts.
“A big influx of people for a race day has a massive flow-on effect for the whole community – people forget that.”
“Either that or I just can’t get enough of drinking a beer and having a punt!”
South Aussie with Cosi hits the airwaves on Channel 9 in November. Stay in touch on Facebook.
This year Cosi will be at the Cup in a formal capacity, hosting the Salinger Seafood Indulgence Luncheon where gourmet food and wine is the order of the day. It’s a step away from beer and barbecue, but Cosi doesn’t seem to mind.

“We will be kicking up our heels, I’m told, dining on some seafood and washing it down with a couple of diet cokes,” he said.
SPEND THE DAY WITH COSI!
Gotta check out the Bunyip by the river. For $2 he comes out of the water and makes a bit of noise...back in my day it was only 20 cents! (Now I’m sounding old!!)
Walk across the bridge. It’s so cool and safe for the kids too!
Try the four-wheel motorbike tour at Mallee Park just outside of Murray Bridge. It’s great!!
