It is hard to believe January is already over! I hope February brings us a lot more sunny and enjoyable weather to get out and play more golf. I would like to start off to recognize a few milestone anniversaries this month: PROPRIETARY GOLF

Brian Stamper- 20 years Martin, Lynn, Nolan, and Aily O’Hara- 1 year Jim & Kate Anderson- 1 year Richard & Betsy Millet- 1 year EMERITUS Arlo & Karen Spiess- 40 years SOCIAL Katherine, Patrick, Dylan, and Connor Geis- 1 year On January 16 & 17 our entire team welcomed Meg from Troon Human Resources as she performed hospitality training along with leadership training for our managers. It was a great two days of training as we continue to strive to raise the bar on your member and guest experience while working cohesively as a team. 2019 is going to be a great year!

I am extremely excited to announce that all of our new security cameras have been installed and are operational! We have comprehensive coverage now around the clubhouse, snack bar, parking lot, and maintenance facility. We hope as the word spreads some of our theft issues will decline but if they don’t then at least we have a much better way to catch them.

Another thing I am really excited about is we are hosting the 1st Annual Stephen McVey Shootout Memorial Golf Tournament on Monday, May 13. As most of you know Stephen was our superintendent who passed away last August. His tournament will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Once more information is released I will make sure we send it out. In the meantime if you are interested in playing or sponsorship opportunities please email me at We are hosting the UCD Football Signing Day Celebration next Wednesday, February 6, at 6PM. Please join us and hear from Head Coach, Dan Hawkins, as he recaps the 2018 season, breaks down the 2019 recruiting class, and things to look forward to in 2019. This is a complimentary event with hosted hors d’oeuvres provided. RSVP HERE I hope everyone has a great weekend and although my Denver Broncos aren’t playing in the Super Bowl I will definitely still be watching. GO RAMS! See you around the club,

-Rusty Seymour General Manager

While the business slows a bit for the winter season, F&B is ramping up for the new year. We took every opportunity to detail as much as we could in those 3 days we were closed. This was a great opportunity to start the year off with a clean slate‌ pun intended. The Front of House staff met a little early on the first day for a 3 hour service training and Front & Back of House had a nice refresher on food safety and sanitation on day two. The rest of the time we wiped, scrubbed and spit shined away. This is key to our success in the future. Thanks Team!

Kasey Robinson, our Director of Catering, and I held a booth at the Sacramento Bridal Expo at the Sacramento Convention Center on January 20th. We brought in 135 leads and have already booked 1 wedding for 2020! Kasey did an incredible job designing the booth (see picture below) and even gave out little succulents that had brides searching for El Macero when they saw another bride holding one. Overall, successful outing and we look forward to doing more.

Member Events Recap Taco Tuesday and Bingo was packed house. The new Quill format seems to be helping with event communication so far so be sure to keep reading each month for events coming up. These Tuesday night dinners are a part of our Casual Night Series this year. We will always have an affordable themed dinner on Tuesday toward the end of every month. Next up‌ Sushi in February. -Keith Culley Food & Beverage Director

We are getting close to our first member tournaments of the year and we are excited. Unfortunately we have to postpone the Inaugural El Macero Glow Ball Tournament scheduled for tonight due to the threat of rain and low signups. We want the first event to be fun and exciting for all and we feel it’s best to hold off until Fall to hold the first event. The 1-Man Scramble is the first Men’s Club event of 2019 and while it won’t be a points race event, it is a great way to start the new Men’s Club and will some prizes. This is scheduled for Saturday, February 16th and will be a 12:00 SG. The sign up sheet is in the golf shop for this 1 man event which will surely be a great kickoff to the 2019 Men’s Club. **For the duration of the winter, feel free to play Mark, Lift, Clean & Place in all closely mown areas** - Chad Bennett, PGA Director of Golf Operations

Tree Trimming Tree trimming has conAfter Before tinued throughout this winter. We have removed a majority of the dead trees from the property at this point and will continue working towards removing all dead or hazardous trees before spring. The focus has shifted towards managing and maintaining the current inventory with long term health of individual trees being a priority. The differences in many areas will be subtle, the picture on top right is the before and bottom is after. This area yielded 6 cubic yards of wood chips, which would be equivalent to removing two large trees. Our new practice of placing rakes half in and half out of our bunkers has worked out very well and will be the new standard. Rakes are to be placed on the sides of the bunkers farthest from fairways and greens to minimize its impact on the outcome of a golf shot, please see the picture below. Thank you again for your support and cooperation.

-Joseph Cuneo Superintendent

Dear El Macero Members, It has been just one week since I joined the team here and already I feel right at home. Thank you to the staff and the many members who have given me such a warm welcome. 2019 is going to be an amazing year here at El Macero Country Club! I look forward to working with the Membership Committee on ways to enhance our Brand identity and grow our Membership in the coming year. As a long-term resident of Davis, I am honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to work in my Community making a difference for the members of El Macero Country Club. -Karyn Yarris Director of Membership & Marketing

If you are interested in playing (even if you don’t have a partner), please contact Karen Senders at Drop-In Saturdays Discontinued A decision was made at the last Tennis Committee meeting to discontinue drop-in tennis on Saturday mornings. The courts will now be open for reservations during this time. There will continue to be a list of tennis playing members posted at the courts.
