Week Three

Reading: Kolerevic B. 2003. Architecture in the Digital Age

Kolerevic described three fundamental type of fabrication techniques in the reading. Outline the three techniques and discuss the potential of Computer Numeric Controlled fabrication with parametric modelling. (150 words max)

Three fundamental types of fabrication techniques are subtractive, addictive and fromative fabrication. The subtractive fabrication is used for the final target is carved out of a large piece of material using CNC machinery. The addictive fabrication is used for a small material and se CNC machine to add it. Formative fabrication is used for heat and stream material to reshap. The computer numeric controlled fabrication with paramatric modelling has the potential to creat shapes which are quikly creat accurate shape. For easily change the paramatic model can by editing the data inputing of scripts.

Week Three

Surface Creation

The process of creating surfaces and panel on surfaces most are follow the scrip of workshop and learn from IDDA. The first part of scripts is about how to creat the shape of surface. Basically, set 2 adjustable lines with with vaiable points on them. The number of points also can be change, then these 4 points linked together to creat the shape of surface. The second part od scripts ia about the panel connected to the surface, by coonecting surface with centroied gids together this will define the location of each pattern, then by adjust the attractive point or attractive curve to decide the the attractive location of panels. The panel can be shaped in 2D or 3D. Here are 4 group of surfaces with different panels in 2D and 3D, when I creating the shape of surface aiming can be used as a pavillion.

Week Four Panels & Waffle

On these two surfaces I used 3 different panels on each surface, on the left side, which is more flat surface the panel on this surface is more smooth , not to sharp which looks like more reasonable and natural. On the right surface it is float on the top corner and the panel on the top corner is more sharp. Both of them have solid pattern on the top is used for creat shadow for people who walk at thw outside of this gallery. At the bottom is hollow this can be convinient for people to view, also allowed wind through the pavillion.

The structure of this waffle aimed for convinient fr people hrough the gallery , there is a bigg threshold on one side, on the another side is a smaller threshold. The big openess on the top can creat a good view for people who stand in the gallery, can feel feedom.

plode the line of tabs and mirror them then join together. At last need to seperate the etch line and cut line in different layers to sed the file tofablab.

The first for creat the laser curt file is to unroll the panels both 2D and 3D. For save time and material it is better to join 2 or 3 pattern together to unroll them, but in my patterns itis diffeicult join a fews together, because there will be overlap on each of them. Bedore I got these 6 panels, I also tried a lot of panels but they even can not unroll in on pattern. Secondly, needs to creat tab for patters which used for stick them, PTTABS commond in rhino and change the distance of tabs, there mabe some tab are creat in wrong direction, to sole this need ec-

Week Five

To get the boolean shape, frst need to set a 150x150x150 cube in grasshopper, and seperat it in to 9 small cubes, by adjust the attractors which are point attracter curve attractur , direction and random. The attractor can make the shape of cube different, then need to set the attracture for the geometry which will attract the center point of the 9 geometry in thos big cube. In the final model I used the octachedron, to boolean the cube. Moreover, the size of the geometry also can adjust by in he grasshopper. After bake them from grasshopper then use boolean difference commond in rhino to trim the cube, by compared the boolean difference and split commond found that, the split commond make it more understanderable for what had been split and clearly about the what shape will get after trim. Here are 4 different setting of attractors and geometries in the cube, and show as after boolean.

Week Five

Isometric

The iteration choosed for showing the space crated by geometry. It also indicate circulation of this space, and shadows created by the shape of pavillion. By choosing the iteration most need to consider about how geometry intersect with each other, and test if boolean can be successful. Then cut it in the most meaningful and reasonable view. For the porosity and permeability, the model indicate these ideas from subtract geometries of the cube. Light, wind, water or people could be defined the space how to be use. The openess of this model indicate the threshold and circulation could be formed in this pavillion. By used in different scale this can creat different ability of porosity and permeability. In my model, it booleaned by octahedron, which creat space not too sharp like pyramid, but also keep the clear edge of space, which use space effeciently, not like sphere waste space. Space created in the model can used as a pavillion in 1: 50 scale, people can enjoy sunshine in the middle where has a big openess on the top. There are also space covered by shadows in the pavillion. On the top of the closed surface it could be build in glass, or could be set as the second storey for people to stand on different level to view.

Task 01 Matrix In the task1 matrix I draw it in vertical way, by changing the orientation of surface to creat different shape of space between surfaces, which aimed for creat the different space of gallery. Then by changing the attrcter point to change the direction of panels to creaat shadows. Last using both different 2d and 3d panels to combine with surfaces. The <3.1> is the last version I choosed, this version shows a more open space for people walk though, and surface is not too curvy which is convinient for people use space.

Task 02 Matrix On the task 2 matrix <3.4>is the last version, which use curve attrcture to shape 9 cubes, and point attrctor centroied geometry which is octagon, and adjust the size of octagons, in the middle is the biggest octagons, top and bottom are smaller than middle. The 1/8 shape of cube shows a shape of pavillion, which threshold set in the middle, people can walk through it, and in the middlethere is an openess which allowed sun in, and two side isclosed for creat shadow, also can make a feeling of protection for people.

Process of creat the surface . The script shows how to creat the 150x150x150 boundingbox. Images shows from creat boundingbox , then select two lines for points on, last adjust location of point on lines to creat the shape of surface.

3d Panel Image of model shows 6 different panel used in the final model the outline of panel shows the panel designed or used in the matrix. There are 3d and 2d panel, in 3d panels have solid panel and hollowed.
